Sorry, I haven't been able to post for a few days, but I'll try to ketchup over the wipend. This though. This I watched right away. Wonderful stuff! Chuckle, chortle, guffaw, giggle, titter, ha-ha, tee-hee, fall about - these were the sorts of things I did.

Thanks for the wikiwork, svenman! Wow, I don't think I fully realized how many there were....

And Minim, I like your most recent addition! At first, I was thinking that it'd be heaven instead of hell because all the sand would nicely even itself out to levelness, but then, if that doesn't trigger levels of sand to vanish, you lose whether there's levelness or not. Yes, that would be a pretty disappointing game to play. For some reason, I imagine Woody Allen playing it.

More ketchup later.

ETA: I didn't really think that through, did I? Hmm. *scratches head*

ETA2: Oh and I forgot to mention Sciscitor's cute pricklymolp/hamster party - the Little Wonder is quite into cute animal videos now. :)
Also, I feel a bit naughty not even trying to figure out january1may's individual grades, especially since I actually emailed a local fast-food sushi place, objecting to how the 7th piece of nigiri costs an additional $1, but the 8th tacks on another $2.40 and so on, so clearly being anal about mathematical justice is not something I am above. And nope, I still haven't thought of a decree.

Did you notice …
… the team?
Spoiler:
Ms. Frizzle uses her new Unglish word to tell Cuegan that BraveBean has reached the floor. Cuegan understand. She knows them for just one day, but they are already acting like a well-established team.
Ms. Frizzle is aware of the fact that the Cueganites must leave this island, and she has convinced herself that they are nice and diligent people. She's thinking about offering this tribe a new home close to the Image
(Fortunately the Beanie people are well-prepared to receive refugees of The Flood, and her own position is high enough to suggest that these people deserve to participate in this programme.)
… the danger?
Spoiler:
Megan's rope is blue, and the air around Cueganzzle is filled with still unENHANCEd dust from the bluecave. Without the masks and the gloves, Cueganzzle would inhale unpleasant doses of plutonium oxide.
(They are lucky that the remains of the sarcophagus protect them from most of the radiation.)

Huh. You're down the road from mrob. Next OTTERCon in the land of the chickadee!

That'd be nice. Before I made it into a talk (and then a paper) for Bochum, I had been thinking a discussion of the OTT community would work well at BarCamp and I still do.

What's with all the scribbled out stuff?

I think it's just some kind of rectangular border. Compare bftf-0886 to bftf-0884. Oops, ninja'd (except that it was not the previous frame, it was the "anteprevious".)

Sustainabilizer wrote:What about dragons? Do they require more I Can't Believe It's Not Goat's Blood than humans or Na'vi?

Don't dragons eat goats? Or perhaps if you collect enough goats you can unlock some of the dragon boosts?

Since the OTTermap does not work for me

Assuming you mean ottermap.chirpingmustard.com, I am able to use it in on my desktop computer running Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, it works in both Chromium 41 and FireFox 38. On my MacOS 10.6.8 system, the OTTermap works in Chrome 43 and Opera 23 but not in Firefox 29.
What OS and browser version are you trying?

Waves seem to have reached harmony with their environment, though not so much as previously, but I suspect that's due to the new location of the time accessor.

In the second, looks like the map code didn't finish loading; I see the zoom and attribution controls, but not the layers one.

While I can conceive a couple ways through which this information could be published without the use of client-side scripting, I'm definitely not interested in such a venture nor therefore knower of the preferred solution by those who do are. The dataset is relatively public, though, and with some look at the app's network connections and knowledge of the database platform it uses, one could easily find ways to retrieve it.
(My aversion to server-side stuff is due to me only recently acquiring a VPS. None of the other systems I have access to allow both dynamic sites and inbound connections.)

Um, didn't remember seeing any of this. Surely you mean the find-in-XML-PM-export one, right? Which, by the way, I still have to publish (note to self).

I looked briefly at that page, and oh my…
Reminds me of when I still played OTP-22; we'd add new recordings to the wiki, each on it's own page with semantically-defined information (date, channel, recorder, transcription). Here I see, in the “Artist / OTT Link” only, entries with solely the author name, authors names that link to other pages in the wiki, authors names that link to their echochamber profiles, alternate versions (both as links and one that's a thumbnail), comments…
(This might or might not have been triggered by my two Computer Networks I projects, both involving defining strict protocol formats.)
Of course, nothing tops Wikia eating 1/4 of the pictures with its sidebar.

bOTTeriada goes ONG

Postby balthasar_s » Sun May 24, 2015 4:11 am UTC

the mrONGbdex story continues.

Code: Select all

"Oh yes, quite obvious... the poorly disguised hubris of the verse, of such meager inspiration, so clumsy in execution."
Mrorl scowled. "All right, then ask it for something else! Whatever you like!" Mrorl paused. "What are you waiting for? Afraid?!"
"Just a minip," said Balthacarius, annoyed. He was trying to think of a request as difficult as possible, aware that any argument on the quality of verse the machine might produce would be hard if not impossible to settle. Then his face lit up and he spoke to the machine:
"Give me a poem about little molpies doing what they do best, on a cool April evening -- whimsical but seated in reality -- but vivid and abstract -- and with every word starting with the letter *S*!"
"And why not include a full explanation of the theory of bOTTronic engineering whilst you're at it?" growled Mrorl. "You can't ask for such Furious Doodling--"
But Mrorl didn't finish. The Bard's melodious voice filled the room:
      <*:Sneaky squirpies softly schizoblitz
      Surrealist starlit springtime's silentongs,
      Silently scanning, steadily surveying,
      Suddenly stealing somemolpy's sandwich
      Simultaneously shamelessly sustainibilisng Stratplayer's sleep.:>
"Well, what do you think of that?" asked Mrorl, proudly. But Balthacarius was already beginning his next request:

The closest match I find was the following, from back in early 2014, but it was talking about Firefox 20:

AluisioASG wrote: (OTT:1725:30)
balthasar_s wrote: The new map isn't working for me. There is no option to show everyone, just the search results. Also, the search doesn't return anything. Reproduced in Firefox 20. Investigating.

Also, I don't think we should worry about Firefox 29 unless someone says it's important to them. We still don't know what browser version and OS @Sustainabilizer was in. FF 29 isn't important to me, I use Chrome, and my Firefox 29 is just for compatibility testing. The current Firefox is much newer (version 38, for all desktop platforms plus Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" or later).

BTW, people: open bug reports Image!

I think FireFox 29 is too old to care about. I realise I am an outlier by caring about long term backwards compatibility (I still test my home pages in NCSA Mosaic, for ch*rp's sake!) But I am also a pragmatist, and I know people couldn't care less. FF 29 is a year old and if people need it for some reason, they can run the OTTermap in Chrome, Opera or something else. I have Safari 5.1.9 on one of my Macs, a version that is almost twice as old as FF 29, and your map works fine there.

Oh, and I need a stacktrace. From you too, sus.

You will need to provide clear, detailed instructions. Where do you propose that I set a breakpoint, and how? (Remember, in my browser your code is just a huge block of extremely obfuscated and minified walltext). After it hits the breakpoint, how do I display a stack trace? I never debug with stack traces, I print messages to the console. xkcd 568 panel #2 comes to mind…

The first time I read that, I read it as
"(Are you) Mind-grepping your OTT textfile for it?". I didn't know mind-grepping was a thing, but from you it made sense. Now I see it's "(Would you) mind grepping your OTT textfile for it?"

I think I prefer to think of mind-grepping as a thing. :)
