I worked a little more on the "puzzle" (which really is just confetti) that I got from the Moon. The kxa wheelstick seems particularly helpful where it appears, and it seems that I got quite a few here.
Image

I also got some much nicer, all-in-one-piece, never-shredded drawings, but I'm still working out how I'll convert them to images to look suitably treeish. The above is the best I can do at the moment (the palette is okay, but it needs better light).

Caprice wrote:In my songs, when I get to the Beanies, I need a way to actually pronounce Beanish (hopefully with palatalization, because palatalization is fun).
Here is a complete transcript of all dialogue/words/writing in Time. All of the Beanish is given in three formats: The Canadian Aboriginal Syllabic transcription used by @tresoldi in xes blog (for example see The corpus, upgraded), the "ASCII" or Latin-alphabet transcription based only on what the symbols look like (also called "@SinusPi transliteration"), and an English translation. Every word is there, even when it is a repeat of something just said.
@tresoldi developed a pronunciation scheme, and it is illustrated in later blog entries. For example in this article, ᘊᒣᑦᖽᖆ is pronounced /paʧoʤada/ and ᖽᔕᐣᘖ is pronounced /ʤameba/. The sounds chosen for each symbol were picked to make it fairly pronouncible, and have nothing to do with the Canadian Aboriginal Syllabic characters. @tresoldi notes that xe is "not satisfied with this mapping" as it still leaves a few words that have strange or impossible pronunciations.
The ASCII/Latin/@SinusPi was also used for pronunciation just a little bit, for example the Beanie name "Amtoo" came literally from AM2, the @SinusPi transliteration of ᘝᘈᘖ, which is the first word in frame 2801.

 — mrob27 Image

Tresoldi made a later post on this with a better mapping; see this page for our current best guess at pronunciation.

Postby mrob27 » Mon Jun 01, 2015 2:13 am UTC

taixzo wrote:Tresoldi made a later post on this with a better mapping; see this page for our current best guess at pronunciation.

Hi @taixzo! Thank you for pointing that out, but…
  • That post (describing the abugida-based system) is not later, it is earlier; look at the dates.
  • Looking at that article, you will note that @tresoldi still has not bothered to answer the comment I left in February.
  • The pronunciation examples I gave (ᘊᒣᑦᖽᖆ/paʧoʤada/ and ᖽᔕᐣᘖ/ʤameba/) come from the "We should all go to ᘊᒣᑦᖽᖆ" article, written 7 months later, and they use the abugida-based system.
I recommend that @tresoldi should fix the date problem by editing the article titles to replace the confusing and misleading "part 2" with something much more obvious and relevant. For example, the first article could be renamed hou tu pranownse binish (abugida hypothesis) and the second would be hou tu pranownse binish (alphabet hypothesis).
In addition, the later article needs to carry a disclaimer similar to the one that already exists at the beginning of the April 1st article. The disclaimer might say, (though this alphabet-based system is the second pronunciation system I am describing, I prefer the first (abugida-based) system and have used that one for pronunciation examples cited in later articles.)
If you and @tresoldi are part of something meriting the group-like pronoun "our", then perhaps you can get @tresoldi to answer xeir comments :P

 — mrob27 Image

(P.S.: I have now edited my earlier post to account for your corrections and the above facts.)

Here's what I found so far (your fonts will vary, don't e:e:e about it too much):

Code: Select all

    ⊡THE browser☰☰☰☰☰☰☰☰☰☰☰☰
Twúj Plan Po... ×┃ CT-143 Wło
    ━━━━━━━━━━┹-----------
            odj.   15:07
    15.06.14             3:08  1
            przyj. 18:15
    -----------------------------
            odj.   18:19
    15.06.14             1:52  1
            przyj. 20.11
    -----------------------------
            odj.   19.18
    15.06.14             2:53  1

The words are presumably Polish (except "THE browser"). I think Twúj Plan is wrong but it's the best I can do to recognise the letters. Maybe odj. is an abbreviation of some conjugation of the verb odejmowania "adopt", or odjąć "remove"; and przyj. might represent przyjęcia "subtract". In Poland the date format is year:month:day, so these dates are in the future (2015 June the 14th). Just in case, I looked for OTT posts on the 15th June 2014, but found nothing matching the times (either in UTC or in CET). The "3:08" is the amount of Time from 15:07 to 18:15, i.e. it's a duration or a measurement of how far something has travelled through Time.

 — mrob27 Image

I know what that looks like: train tables!

lmjb1964 wrote:Speaking of which...I found something! Looking at the BalthaONGs, with the odj. and przyj. repeating over and over, I figured they must be abbreviations that occur together normally. A little google-fu and, guess where they occur? Rail timetables! Odjazdu is "departure" and "przyjazdu" is arrival, so odj. and przyj. are equivalent to Dep and Arr. "twój" at the top of the page translates to "Your." I'm guessing that we're looking at a log of time travel, with the first column being the portal used (E.E.E. would be the one in the video we just saw), the second being the date of the trip, and the third being the traveler. But they're talking about looking at messages from the past, so maybe the third column is the person who originated the message.

Oh yes, that's very nice. I just installed it and tried it out. It's called espeech (or eSpeech) and there's a simple GUI for speaking bits of text, or a command-line program for more serious work. It generates ASCII-coded phoneme output too!

And all this last week I have been writing code that uses eSpeak to teach a speech recognition library how to pronounce unknown words. It's ALL RELATED!

Not that it worked with BlitzGirl. I did get a PM from azule though! Oops, which I haven't responded to yet. Better do that.

So, it seems that I was summoned, two pages before I started my Blitz. The summoning worked, I guess!

(Also, I prefer to go by gender-neutral pronouns.)

taixzo wrote:Tresoldi made a later post on this with a better mapping; see this page for our current best guess at pronunciation.

I know it's earlier, but I assumed it was the current best guess seeing as (as you mentioned) Tresoldi used it in later posts. I have no connection to that work, however; I merely used "our" in the context of OTTers as it was the most advanced mapping I'd seen so far (unless azule has one too?)

Looking up 10.3 in response to a post on anOther thread, I came up with this:

103

originated from the native americans
a form of entertainment if the sandcastle falls you automatically win
I 103d on that shit at the beach the other day

I'm not quite sure what to make of this.

(It was a very silly facebug. I thwapped it. Unit tests are important!)

Edit: I accidentally pasted the whole OTT into the Xcode search bar. I'm just going to get some food while Xcode recovers.

This is such a funny image - I spent about five minutes just laughing uncontrollably at it.

You mean the image of thwapping a facebug, or of pasting the entire OTT into the Xcode search bar?

The latter was worse than it sounds; the search string is shared across the whole system, which is usually very useful (if you don't find something in one place, you can easily look for it in another.) In this case, it meant that every time I tried to search for anything anywhere, whichever app I was using would hang for longer than I could

TEAPOT! You actually had to open this spoiler to know what it meant?
so I had to log out and in again to clear the search pasteboard.

I've now given Haiku Detector an optimisation so obvious I'd assumed I'd already done it, and it takes about half the Time or less to process the OTT now, but the output is different. It's probably because the optimisation might change in which circumstances it works around the 'zero' bug I reported to Apple earlier. Anyway, I haven't had Time to go thought the differences and find out for sure, so I haven't released the new version yet.

Sorry for the somewhat intermitent messages, there's been a lot going on lately: impending end of the universitary calendar (meaning exams + projects), my furry side attempting to take over¹, increased interest in national politics, trying not to lose my internship (which is supposedly linked to my school performance), Internet Oddity, learning truco (which I need for a Networks I project), resuming gaming, something that needs me to summon the floors and sweep the molpies…

In other news, this library showed up in one of the newsletters I subscribe to and, as some of you may remember, I do have some stuff RELATED to extracting colors from images. So I decided to apply the former to the latter, with nice results unless your avatar is grayscaled.
Warning: the whole page is rendered in JavaScript. I may try to port the library to run server-side, but there are lots of stuff higher in my heap right now.

He's not that far from me. The only problem is I only go down to Porto Alegre every two years, and we're in the wrong one :P

Has the mr*bdex story slowed down again?

Angelastic wrote:TEAPOT! You actually had to open this spoiler to know what it meant?

You never know.

¹ It's getting very good at it, to the point of me having lunch with an idea for a new OTTish story² and it having become³ a furry comic by the time I went to sleep.
² I don't see myself finishing the one I still have open. I'm just too creatively unstable for such long-term projects.
³ Not that I'd have gone anywhere with it. The setting relied on internals. But the premise could likely be adapted.

Hi again, my favorite OTTers! Sorry for the organized sand silence - I spent about a wip at the wedding and it sort of grew from there. I ended up doing this thing where I took a break from most of the internet for a mip, because it was making me mustardy and I hadn't taken a voluntary internet-break in GLR knows how long. But it's June 1stH, so now I'm back inside and ketchupping! Looks like I have about 25 newpages to do, which I think is closer to the river than the sea because it's actually less than I faced during my last wedding-break. (Hope the molpies weren't too troublesome while I was away; I left a punsaw with them so they could amuse themselves.)

Yay! It's awesomeful to be back! Or forward!
