I wonder if Randall is lurking on this thread and just adding frames based on what people think is happening or about to happen. It's pretty unlikely, but an intriguing idea nonetheless.

I really wonder what's going to happen with this. Will it continue for ever? I personally think it'll be done when the new one goes up at midnight, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been totally surprised here. The image should also link to the forums. The reactions are just really fun, and a good way to spend some time while waiting for the next image to go up. >.>

If there's a punchline to this, this might just be the longest set up joke ever.

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned, but has anyone tried making some kind of slide show of all these pictures?

This. Comic. Is. Fantastic!!!!

And also completely infuriating!! I went away for a few hours and I come back and I am SO EXCITED to see that they have managed to... wait, all they have done is extended the castle and repaired a bit of one of the towers? WHAT?

I am going to completely waste my life away watching this one panel per 30mins... saga!! And so far it's blatantly SO BORING but I can't seem to take my eyes off it. This is driving me mad. If there's a joke I don't get at the end of this, I will be LIVID!!

"Personally I believe slide number 52 (according to the Aubron Wood chronological classification system) is automatically in the top ten, due to the sheer originality of the introduction of text - before which it was unknown if the series would contain any."

What a surprise - you praising a text frame!

Haha that's exactly what I thought of as soon as I started reading this thread.

This is fantastic. We totally are that comic. How shameful! And he's not even put us in a box and we're *still* doing it! Amazing.

EDIT: RE: new panel -- she doesn't even seem to be interested in the damn castle anymore!! Either something is floating/sailing in by sea or she is just being lazy. Come on, we don't have all day! (we've wasted it watching this comic) !!!

perhaps this is a more elaborate ruse than what was found at the end of what-if 22, except he's gonna show a graph kind of like this when all's said and done.

My guess is that a wave will crash over the sand castle and destroy it... Randall seems to appreciate the sense that it is time that destroys what people create. But still people create.

(That seems like too much depth to go into for a 'simple' web comic, but oh well.)

Well, they seem to be rather focused on that central area of the castle, these last few frames. I wonder if it's going to be something other than a central tower?

[I haven't read through the many pages of this thread, so I am probably repeating somebody else...]

One week from when this was posted is April 1.

I could see this one staying up all week with a payoff on April Fools' Day.

7 days * 2 comics/hour * 24 hours = 336 frames. At 1 frame/sec that's a 5:36 movie

The delta between frames is small enough that the amount of work to produce 336 frames is considerably less than the research Randall has done on many other comics.

I'm guessing this goes for a week, but we'll have a new data point at midnight

I think I have the conclusion:

Spoiler:
Black hat guy comes in riding a hot air balloon and ends up destroying the castle.

I have exactly 0 time to read the above posts so I'm sorry if I'm repeating any..

What's this: time07.min.js? At first glance it looks like the obfuscated javascript code looks like it updates the image every X (30?) minutes to the next png image uploaded on the server. Is this what it does?

Also I think the sand castle will be destroyed after the tide rises.

What might happen is this: at some point, probably not too far ahead, the castle is finished and they go home. The castle then slowly deteriorates, a few pixels every frame, until the beach is back in its original state ... a few months from now. (I bet we won't be checking every half hour anymore at that point.)
Then they come back and start all over again.

It's amazing how people can spent so very much time on so very little.
If this was Randall's intention, the man is a genius in my book.

This is going SO WELL.
I CANT WAIT FOR MORE!!!
but i have to. ^_^
I wonder why shes not helping anymore... not trying to be morbid just wondering! this is a wonderful happy comic i think
So much for doing anything productive. This comic seems slightly contradictory in its message to us. Telling us to wait for it and appreciate our time yet using so much of it.

My last attempt to give people some related reading in the "nineteenth century ghost story" genre was thwarted somewhat by the requirement for the post to be approved, which meant that everyone else had moved on. So I'm shamelessly repeating the link to The Mezzotint, by M. R. James. Of course, I can't actually post a link, but it would be gutenberg.org/cache/epub/8486/pg8486.html#id00162 with or without three preceding 'w's.

It's a short story about a man
Spoiler:
who buys an antique picture which appears to change slowly, revealing a series of horrific events from the past.
Very much recommended to while away those 29 minutes between new images....

Scratch that, my bad... I was comparing pics posted on this thread, but the 23:00 (CET) one linked to time.png and not the actual image at that time.
