Is he now working on the model of the model of the original sandcastle?

Looks like he's making sea/liquid-extensions

Will a slight bending of the elbows in 50 minutes time show us the next step in the recursion? We could be in for some more stability, glad that Megan will come to the rescue.

Maybe he's replicating Time in space; that is, with each iteration of the recursive sandcastles, he's creating a model of an earlier TimeFrame, so that eventually when we zoom in on the tiny fractal castles, we will see earlier and earlier frames (probably without the speech bubbles), until it gets back to the first one and then the whole comic loops (because at that scale, quantum effects dominate and the tiny stick figures may as well move.)

Edit: This would also explain the earlier zoom out; by the time he gets to the early TimeFrames, he's making everything so tiny that he can't be bothered to replicate the entire sandcastle complex.

Betcha a big-ass wave rolls in and messes everything up in like 5 newpix and then Megan shows up and is like "so what's up?" Cueball responds "Oh not much." and they walk off... The end.

People have been speculating a Destruction Wave since the beginning of Time. It so won't happen. We're just being teased along w/ this damn Moundâ„¢ for 6 Outside days, now.

I'm quite concerned with the water level rising recently... Even Cueball is, apparently, since he's watching it intently. Hum.

(Oh, and, guys, do you even KNOW the notion of "trimming quotes"..? It's really horrible to have to scroll through whole screenfuls of quotes with a one-liner response underneath... :/ )

I'm pretty sure that when you scale down to that level, the nanophysics allow for text bubbles.

Luckily he is not inside John Malkovich's head. That would cause a fractal headache.

The Architect Age should have ended when Megan came back and Cueball 'tada'd!' her. Then again... he's back on that Mound, gods help us all.

No it'll rain and the caffinated semen will dissolve

What if... he is building a replica of HER castle (stage left) and she is building a replica of HIS castle.

I mean, she was gone a long time, then came back for a brief moment to check on his progress. She has shown herself to be faster than he is, so she could have caught up while he spent ages crenelating and tinkering.

There is no sand-sculptured hand there. :P

Anyway, it reminds me of Self Description: http://xkcd.com/688/
Even the 'amount of black ink per panel' kinda resembles the amount of sand of each castle.

Unfortunately, that comic doesn't give any clues to what might happen next. Maybe we're gonna see some sculptured charts, but that was a no-brainer from the start.

I was in an airport (yes, Waiting For It) and there was a group of geologists on their way to a conference. One of them told a story about a conference on sedimentary rocks he had been to and he said "it was a Sedi talking to a bunch of Sedis, so in the end, you just fell asleep".
I spose the metamorphic rockers never go out.

does that mean it's some sort of immaculate confirmation?

papal fiat?

Or just legal trickery that cannot possibly come back to bite us in the arse before we're done?

Why does the pope-mobile have to be a fiat?

Do you really want to give Helper a Porsche?

I think we need somthing in between. how about a BMW?

i think something more suited to XKCD is in order

this is actually an important frame: i think he retracted his leg because the tide was lapping his toes!

Look at what he built on top of the sandcastle....it's the same image as the frame. He recreated the entire frame on the sandcastle's plateau, which in turn recreates the entire frame on its plateau, ad infinitum!Time is a Droste Effect!

There are little dots on top of Cueball's model of the full-size castles that look suspiciously like a third level of sandcastle recursion. He's good.

It's a multi-level recursion. Randall is the Creator of Time. Cueball has created Time on top of his sandcastle, thus making him the Creator of Time. And if he's adding himself to his creation, adding to the Droste effect, well then, we're down a very deep rabbit hole.

It's an allegory to the cyclic nature of Time and the thread. Common themes keep re-occuring, and so does the scale model of the sandcastle itself.

I think he's trying to make a scale model of himself sitting on the beach.

In the nature of the cyclic thread: do you use singular verbs with singular they?

EDIT: yes, indeed, headache, but still nice animated gif :D
