1293: Job Interview

Postby Wee Red Bird » Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:09 am UTC

Title Text: When you talk about the job experience you'll give me, why do you pronounce 'job' with a long 'o'?

Hope it is tomato soup. Chunky vegetable soup would clock those thin wires.

I want one of those soup taps.

I also think many of Randall's ideas would be great for some sort of hidden camera comedy show...

Did he bring his own soup cable or was it already there? Either way, storing it on the floor doesn't seem very hygienic. Some kind of hook should be provided.

Apart from that, seems legit.

Apparently that "soup tap" is actually an Ethernet port and he's sucking all the comms off the xkcd forum servers. They've been slower than a Toshiba Customer Support Call Center for the last few days.

Anyway --- this strip sounds like the lead-in to "Tales From the Interview" over at thedailywtf.

That's a bit old school. I get my soup via WiFi. It's best to use TCP so that the flow of soup can be controlled. Dropped packets of soup can be messy.

Electric outlets that output soup? Absurd. Electric outlets that output espresso? Awesome.

I would really like to know how, exactly, Beret Guy discovered that the outlet was a soup outlet.

Maybe it was already labelled...

I figure if you combine the phrase "write on our computers", the soup outlet label, and the zeppelin elevator strip… you get a really sweet business model.

Slower? They've been downright unavailable for me for days.

Also, am I the only one who mistook the cable as him simply heating up his soup already in the bowl, rather than being a soup dispenser?

Probably. I did, however, completely miss that the "soup" sticker labels the outlet. I thought it was just water.

That's a bad idea, you don't want to just wander into the canteen and help yourself to the public WiFi soup and then find you've been grabbing it from a poisoned outlet.

Yeah, this is only the second time I've been able to log in all week.

"We want you to write on our computers" - that is, we have a bunch of computers around here - you know, leopards, mice, monitors, towers - and we have some stuff we want you to write on them. You can use sticky notes or just write directly on them using sharpies; It's up to you.

"We can offer you a bunch of paychecks" - that is, I've printed out a bunch of checks that you can pick between. They all have different amounts, and most are between 1 and 10 dollars.

Or at least that's what I would expect Beret Guy to mean by those statements.

We could name him Joab?

At first I thought this (Building he found) was a soup kitchen.

So this confirms my suspicions. Beret-guy is in fact, Goofy Satan!

Today's strip is what I imagine David Lynch directing a biography about Coach Z would be like.

Well clearly it's some kind of chowder or chowdah because it contains Fshh.

I wonder if he misheard somebody talking about SOAP and thought it meant SOUP? Those web services use soup!

God, I would love to work for Beret Guy. And apparently he actually finds a way to make money.

Randall needs to make this company.

(Everyone got the "Job with a long O" reference, right? As in Job from the Bible? I really wouldn't want a Job experience. I was just going over the Book of Job the other day, and that made me really laugh).

Beret Guy and his reality-altering lolrandumbness is growing on me. I'd probably want to work for him too.

Wouldn't he be talking about jorb experience instead of Job experience then?

When I read this comic when it was first out I was focussed on the text and somehow completely missed the soup outlet until now. Wow.
Okay this comic is even weirder than I'd realised.

So I'm guessing you are on a white-beret comic spree, right?
