Well, anyway, make sure it's http://, not https://.

I can't get the rocket back. I had an idea of what to post there, but now it's gone.

How do I get back to the rocket?

Is the snow powers a disney reference? I kind of like it, although I miss the actual snow powers up to now.

Do you think that's why it was posted on a Tuesday? I was really puzzled about that, but this sounds like a suitable explanation.

I'm glad I'm not the only one surprised by the schedule change. Although I suppose it's also why it took longer for a thread to be created.

Yes, it's very picky. Is that what OTT people now call mustard? Maybe Randall will fix the URL issues and allow https and www. Or maybe he just wanted to make a point.

I probably shouldn't have written to Randall asking "What-if you asked someone better to write your comics? You know, like random strangers."

(Only kidding, I haven't seen a combination yet that would make even an average xkcd comic)

I wasn't looking forward to cataloging this myself, but what the heck ch*rp.

No no no no no! You guys promised to keep dat crap contained!

udscbt hasn't been here since May 2013. Over a thousand individual users have posted in de Time discussion (including yourself); we no a single collective consciousness.

yah broseph, dat's why I never really believed you'd be able to contain it =P

I will send a PM to @udscbt telling about recent discussions and majority consensus that we shouldn't spread out jargon around the other threads like graffiti. ... I think it's a good idea for the ducks (Time-thread-people) to police themselves. I imagine moderators have to do that sort of thing all the time. :? and hopefully I can help :)

You can't police a monster that large. Have you seen Godzilla? The police have no chance against something like that. (and no, I'm not advocating creation of a larger monster to battle this one...)

Except we're nothing like Godzilla. We're more like Legion. (Hmm ... that doesn't sound a whole lot better)

Joking aside, we've policed ourselves fairly well within the Time thread. Why wouldn't that extend to the rest of the fora?

Back to the topic at hand: Will it even be possible to catalog all of the Lorenz comics? The images shouldn't be a problem, but the the dialog variations could be immense with so much user generated content. And some of that may never even get back to the server.

Some URLs that I got earlier don't seem to work anymore. It seems that not all options last forever. Here's a bunch of URLs with images of what is/was there.
Spoiler:

I have more to post later, probably tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a list of URLs that don't work for me anymore, just in case they start working again for whatever reason.

And here's a bunch that I haven't had a chance to check yet, if anybody wants to beat me to getting pictures of them.

I'm sorry for my previous post, I didn't think it would have caused problems. I'll stop using those words.

Back on topic, I have a theory about how this comic works.
It seems implausible to me that Randall is reading all the submitted lines to decide if they are worthy to be put in the comic; I think that every time a line is submitted it is added to the possible options that can appear for that panel with a starting probability. If that option appears and a user selects it, the probability of it appearing again is increased, if it is ignored the probability is decreased. (Note that the options for a panel are independent from the path taken before [EDIT: the path taken actually seems to matter] and that they aren't always the same in the same panel)
This could be tested by agreeing on a line to always select when is available and observe if it appears more frequently or not.

They work, after removing the word filtering and ellipsis inserted by the forum. You have to load the links in a new tab, if you try loading them from a tab with the comic open it just reloads the current comic.

It does seem that certain options have become impossible to reach without a link, which sucks because they happened to be the longer, more interesting ones. I just keep getting the same Frozen references, 2^n tiles, broken debate options (thanks to the double response frames), falling in holes, and the t-rex. The rocket branches have become nearly nonexistent, Pikachu is becoming rare, no more boomerang, and I saw a sequence where the hat character spent half a dozen panels walking by (her?)self only once.

From what I've been able to determine, when you select the option for the first panel it chooses a tree at random, but that tree has a pre-determined (pre-determined as of when you start down that tree) set of branches, so if you traverse down a given path, backtrack to the second panel and then proceed to follow the same options, you should end up with the same path (or at least that's my current theory, I've tested it a couple of times by going back two decision points and verifying that taking the same options leads to the same series of panels).

..But then trying some more, I found this not to be entirely true. Going back a couple of decision points doesn't always result in the same paths. It seems like it usually presents the same ones but may sometimes present different ones.
Perhaps it has something to do with the number of suggestions provided at a given decision point?

It does feel like suggestions are being incorporated into the tree somehow.

Keep the suggestions coming in! Yes, there are people who are moderating the line suggestions to help power the story.

You'll have to keep playing to see how everything could end...

I just ran through several iterations involving T-Rex that self-terminated with the artwork in the last two panels being identical to the first two.

Crap, really?

Well. I'm noticing that the "refresh, no new email" branch has more than four options in the next panel. The system gives you four of them at random. Hit the back arrow and then reselect it and it's a new mix of options. This one is going to be even more daunting than Click and Drag to see everything. (Which reminds me, I still need to go over all the panels of Click and Drag and see everything...)

There are zoomable versions now, google maps style. It makes the whole thing a whole less daunting.

My favorite "political debate path" so far.

Hope there will be some more choices in the morning.

Seems to me that every panel with a second line is a dead end. Could be Randal trying to work out the bugs mentioned on the first page of this thread.

Anyway, favorite so far:

I have a few comments:
1) I put in one of the submits: "text'); DROP TABLE *;" 8-)
2) I spent two hours on it, and am not even 1/4 through

spent a few hours going down all the paths i could find. was more extensive than i thought. contributed several more lines of dialogue.

this one impressed me to the same degree as "time" and "point and click"(or click and drag? can't remember what it's called)

I swear I was able to say "Kitten" when the rocket was taking off before. Now that option is gone.

I WANT TO SHOUT "KITTEN", GODDAMN IT!

Odd, first story I went with, I was able to shout kitten just fine. And that was 5 minutes ago.

Well I just spent the last hour and 20 minutes performing an exhaustive depth first traversal. Unfortunately, it seems that it's not really exhaustive because some of the nodes have more options than are displayed and if the posts here are to be believed, some are disappearing entirely. I didn't see a single Frozen reference the whole time.

Looks like I can't get the rocket anymore - I'd love to see how that branch continues. But I get Pikachu every now and then.

Well, got the rocket back, but this continuation is not very logical - where are they going now, why doesn't she wait? http://xkcd.com/1350/#p:09980910-ba05-1 ... 2590d77bdd

A bug I've noticed is that the "permalinks" seem to change when the comic changes.

I'm still unable to get it work on my macbook (mavericks): I tried chrome, safari, and firefox with a variety of URLs; on two separate network connections + a VPN.

Either I get the image for the previous comic with no interactivity, or I get the first panel and nothing happens after selecting an option.

So far it only works on my phone (firefox with Android 4.4).

Also, the forum spam filter is a bit overzealous; any attempt to post the URLs I was using caused it to get flagged.

It appears the permalinks work and other general stuff works, but the server is just getting hammered so badly (probably from all the people trying it).
