Maybe someone noticed already, but the iPhone app shows yesterday's comic instead of this one.

Did someone break it? The "email" option on the first frame is gone, and the tile option is duplicated now.

Ok, possibly stupid question, but:

How do I get this comic to work? I can only see the image of Monday's comic.

I'm accessing via a desktop, so it's not a mobile internet issue.

I'm getting a little bored by the comic. Despite changing all the time, it feels quite repetitive, and most of the longer paths stop making much sense... I guess I value narrative structure more than random laughs.

Yeah, that's why I remain unconvinced about interactive storytelling, drama etc. It's bad enough when I watch/read something worrying that I might miss some important plot development or clue. The idea that I might miss out on appreciating the work because I made the wrong choices is even worse.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I'm talking about things like this, which showed this yesterday, but today just gives me the opening panel with four options. Branches are disappearing even with a link, which is why I'm trying to archive at least some of them as images.

I fixed the https issue, but after clicking an option, Firebug in Firefox shows this error:

This one is really, really broken for me---no one else? I clicked the "BSD" option and got brought to the previous comic (1349). 'Oh, haha, that makes sense I guess.' But now that one's the front page of the site, with a lot of white space under it, and all the links people are posting bring me back to comic 1349.

I tried it in chrome private mode as well, wondering if it was a browser/cookie issue, but I get the same exact thing. Is it based on IP address? Going to have to investigate more fully when not at work.

This, to me, does not really compare to Click and Drag, Umwelt, or Time. This is pretty nifty, for sure. And fun. And maybe addictive. Certainly ingenious for a webcomic. But because it is crowdsourced, it doesn't have the same style as most other XKCD comics, aside from the complexity of design. With Click and Drag, it was a sense of space, where you had to drag the image around a large area to discover small little jokes or scenes. Umwelt was an exploration by the community to find all the different panels that result from a strange combination of location, browser, and a bunch of other things I am not savvy enough to remember. Time was a drawn out story that gave the readers a chance to examine every pixel and nuance of each frame, and extrapolate all sorts of interesting content, all while trying to predict what would happen next.

This one is, just,... Not at that same level. Being crowdsourced, there is just not an elegant flow between panels, and the dialogue is often very different than XKCD's style. There are plenty of funny things being said, but nothing that I would lose sleep over if I missed them. I'd want to see all the possible panel templates, sure. And maybe see the top 10 branches or something. Maybe top 100. I really have fun thinking up new suggestions for dialog, and when I see one I submitted on the page I will jump for joy. But I don't see this instigating the frantic, crazy, forum community response as the other three did, and certainly it won't go on as long as Time did/is. Notice how there isn't a frantic need to CATALOG ALL THE THINGS! DISCUSS ALL THE THINGS!

I could be wrong, though. I have faith that Randall has an end game in mind that will be insightful and interesting. I just can't see it from here. I just see Twitch Plays XKCD.

It wasn't working in Chrome or Firefox (just saw yesterday's comic), but then I tried enabling pop ups in Chrome because I couldn't think of anything else to do and the first image with the four choices appeared. Choosing any one got me to a pic that said "suggestion submitted. meanwhile try exploring other choices!", but I could only go back from there. If it matters I have windows xp. Also I got the "tiles" option twice with a small difference in spelling instead of the "refresh email" option.
Edit: nevermind, it's working now even though I didn't change anything.

Some of the newer political debate ones amuse me.

"And if I'm elected, I vow to win this war on christmas once and for all!"
"Win?! Are you mad? You'll drive us towards mutually assured destruction - christmas is far too strong for us to face in battle!"
"Christmas is a menace, and we fight it not because it is easy, but because it is hard"

Totally still broken for me right now. This is probably a good thing for my productivity's sake.
In Svithjod, there stands a rock. It is 100 miles high and 100 miles wide. Once every 1000 years a little bird comes to this rock to sharpen its beak. One time, I changed just the last sentence of this signature, and lots of you noticed. Image

It's interesting how it stopped working for some people. It's not URL dependent for me anymore, although I need to disable mixed content blocking in firefox when visiting the https site.

It seems the word filters are gone :(. It was so short this year, oh well, better luck next year.

I didn't get the frozen references this evening anymore, I fear they may be gone :( (maybe it was a copyright issue, although I don't think it was sufficient for copyright infringement). We could always add new ones though :P.

I do like the dinosaur though (https://xkcd.com/1350/#p:287feb84-b9c6- ... 2590d77bdd, in case the other ones start failing).

EDIT: woooo, they kept the bananafish titles.

I'd love a little more insight on what's going on behind the scenes.

-Does Randall pick the winning dialogue choices, or are readers unknowingly locking in dialogue choices by "voting" for them every time they click?

-Does Randall pick the next frame, or is it initially picked at random from a preset group of valid "next frame" images and then locked in place from there on out?

-How did the "No new emails" line in frame 1 get broken and replaced with a duplicate "Stupid tiles" line?

The comic really does behave strange. I got it working in Firefox, at least most of the time. Since some people asked for a rocket, I've got a 24-panel rocket here, maybe someone can use it: http://xkcd.com/1350/#p:04febda8-bab0-1 ... 2590d77bdd

Anyone else have the problem where you can see the comic and click on an option just fine, but after that dialogue choice appears above the character's head, nothing else happens?

Clicking people's links also just leads to the first panel for me and nothing more.

I have seen two lines that I have suggested, and they are now gone.

But all that really confirms is that I made obvious jokes.

I've submitted dozens of suggestions. I have seen exactly one incorporated. If you see the "Milk doesn't grow on trees" line, that's mine.

I'm extremely disappointed that the "Gravity" opening is being followed by a debate where the suggested dialogue still depicts the two men as political adversaries.

In the "Gravity" scenario, the debate dialogue suggestions should assume we are watching something similar to the Bill Nye vs Creationist debate, except they are debating about gravity.

Fix it if you can.

There's definitely something wrong with the comic and the site, the What If page displays strange codes, and hexadecimal numbers for the comics. Might be that it has gotten hacked.

It looks like a slightly botched update - What If page is supposed to tell us about the next What If appearing on Thursday instead of Wednesday. The comic itself is fine.
