Cloud computing has a ways to go.

Comment by OP: Pun type comic. Cloud == actual cloud. Ha. Ha. Funny.

Okay, "cloud" correlates to "clouds". You xuys will figure this out. Have at it!

Yahoo! would probably respond with "duckie." But it probably responds that with everything.

A ways go to? At least it's only one ways. Multiple wayses would complicate the situation immensely.

Nothing new here

The first Colossus book has a bit at the beginning (before the computer goes rouge [sic]): the techies try to explain to the politicians the difference between a computer and a person, so they type "What is love?" , and Colossus types back "Love is an emotion."

Seems a fitting thread to toss this out: http://reverseocr.tumblr.com

That's where my previous comment came from. I tend to agree. Without the alt text, my comment makes no sense.

Why does Y! return duckies? Wouldn't that be DuckDuckGo?

Yes it is. I'm actually okay with "guys", because it is already semi-gender neutral, but others may not be as okay, so I use it. You can thank the OTT.

Oh, rats, I dylexicisized that as "UXys," and thus as a label for the "user experience" team, folks who used to be called "user interface" or "usability'" or something.

The best part of this comic is that I have no problem imagining Randall trying that, just to see what Google would do.

Randall would call this research.

The rest of us have to work.
In all fairness...

How do you reverse-image-search on a phone, anyway? Last I checked, Google Images's mobile site doesn't let you do it :x

Well, Shinseungback Kimyonghun fed images of clouds to facial recognition algorithms, and made an art installation of those that matched.

I highly recommend checking this, and his other projects, really awesome, and kinda xkcd-ish in a way.

The rest of us are compelled by external forces to perform meaningless tasks that someone somewhere called "work."

Compared to almost anything I've ever been paid for, doing something completely dada to playtest a joke is definitely meaningful research.

It looks like Google helpfully removed that feature from their mobile search app. I couldn't find a way to do it without having to install a separate app (lame).

Really?
We need Google for Castles in the Air?

An old photograph of a cloud caused me to question my world view.
After Salvador Dali died, this showed up in the sky.
https://www.google.com/search?q=clouds+ ... B339%3B450

What do you think?
Coincidence?

If it was a Mother Mary; Yes.
A Salvador Dali? Maybe, No.

He was such an Exhibitionist.
It is something he would do.

Google does bring cloud gazing into The Future.
If google tells me what to see, I see it.
http://cloudappreciationsociety.org/clo ... loud87&i=6

Is it cloud or is it photo shop?
https://www.google.com/search?q=clouds+ ... +&imgdii=_

Can Google tell me if a photo has been shopped?
Go Google!
Life is, just, an exchange of electrons; It is up to us to give it meaning.

We are all in The Gutter.
Some of us see The Gutter.
Some of us see The Stars.

Those that want to Know; Know.
Those that do not Know; Don't tell them.
They do terrible things to people that Tell Them.

Just thought I'd poke my head into this thread and say that it's happening. Google has been released the same neural networking software that they've been using for image categorization, and you can use it to try to identify what clouds look like . . . to a slightly convoluted, psychedelic robot.

Because it's my first post, if I try to put a legitimate link then the forum tells me it's flagged as spam . . . so here you go, a link in three parts:

That leads to an ITT: We make xkcd slightly worse.
