When I select it the red circle extends all the way past the far left tulip, but all I can see greyed out is what rises above the flat surface of the pond. Sort of looks like a dog swimming, tail on the left with his head sticking out to the right. Anyone else see anything like it?
edit: ahrg I accidentally deleted it trying to prune something to see what it was

I think it's a bird carrying an iPod, normally found in the air. It's a bad idea to tow it through the stream, probably mustarded up the electronics.

(But I love the swimming dog interpretation. I want to see an object like that!)

My favourite garden at the moment seems to be full of hungry cats. I've given up on the Romantic period of gardening, and am now carefully pruning with specific rules. In this case it was to allow only furniture, people, cats and birds. I let the crazy long-stringed balloon stay as a cat toy, and the jumping fish as food for the cranes. The cats look fascinated.

Heh. Yes, this one started out as a three-garden experiment with pure yellow, red, and blue lamps mixed in three combinations. This is the default yellow and full-on blue garden. No changes since I started it, other than pruning. When it started mainly producing desks and tables and cats, I decided to prune out (almost) everything else. :)

What light did you guys use for lantern and fishes?
I tried blue light on my pond, but all I got was an octopus with hat. xD

Both of my lanterns grew with red light (one full-red and one slightly less than full). But I've had flying fish appear with yellow, and both a light-blue and a blue+yellow combination gave me jumping fish. So not sure what to take from that.

Hm, I might try to tune down one of my red lamps a bit and see whether I have more luck then.
And next fish-attempt: light blue. xD

Thanks!

One of the swordMegans in the UFO garden decided to take matters into her own hands before the birds went crazy like in Hitchcockian Garden.
She stabbed one of them.

I think the platforms are sticky: they're surprisingly collapse-resistant. But nice spiral topiary you've got started on the left. Could use a teeny-tiny bit of trimming, as long as you don't do it the way my mother would. (Her idea of pruning is functionally equivalent to "die! die! all plants must die!".)

Megan, swordMegan, and stiltGirl disagree about hat fashions. They think turtles are where it's at.

Hats galore! I think she has four or five by now. I've been trimming off all the animals and leaving the hats.

My gardens had all stopped growing and I gave up on them, but the latest influx of new creatures inspired me to try again - so glad I did! I have a lovely set of water creatures in the pond, potted trees and some kind of avant garde reinterpretation of Romeo & Juliet, with stilts and cats.

Image

Not sure if it's the light combo or just the random "growingness" factor but this garden is by far the fastest growing I've had.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it here yet, but explainxkcd has instructions on how to enter 'debug mode' and see how many of each type of thing you have: http://www.explainxkcd.com/wiki/index.php/1663:_Garden/Images#How_to_find_new_links

Here's my double-stilt double-deer garden.
And one of the string/reed things just developed a balloon! There's a LOT of wind, it just got blown all the way over to the ground. Sometimes it goes the other way, right out of the image.
I've removed the bare tree to the left of centre a couple of times but it keeps coming back. I also prune the other trees on occasion when they get too thick with leaves or whatever.

My garden was pretty tame: a tree, a few bushes and minor scrub, a birdbath, a nice selection of animals along the ground (and one duck in the birdbath), and a sales sign off in the left.

Then I decided to raise the lights a bit higher and apparently there's some sort of cactus sale display happening now. I don't know.

Had a garden that hadn't grown all week. Finally just trimmed out a bunch of vines and almost immediately grew an armadillo! Haven't seen one of those before. The fauna diversity certainly seems to be increasing.
In Svithjod, there stands a rock. It is 100 miles high and 100 miles wide. Once every 1000 years a little bird comes to this rock to sharpen its beak. One time, I changed just the last sentence of this signature, and lots of you noticed. Image

I also started a new garden last night, and it's really growing quickly. I've got a giant balloon, shark-infested waters, an armadillo infestation being carefully watched over by two deer, and finally! the long-wished-for office lamp!!!

Thank you, addams! Accidental is definitely the word for it - all I've done is move the lights around and prune various items out!

Things are going very well in the garden of the twin lampposts. I finally managed to grow a wading bird, but not quite where I expected one.

Well now....
I was catching up on my xkcd comics (haven't been on-line for awhile) and I came across "1663: Garden".
And all I saw was a wee little dot. And that was after getting the "un-secure" notice on explorer.

Went to explainxkcd and they said "There's something there."Y
Came here. Hmmm...
Folks posting IMAGES of their Gardens. Well now....
Thanks to the links left by libra and nicodemus (and one otherN), which I followed and what they had going on. When I hit "next" or "previous" and came back to Garden; by golly: it scratch loaded. (Hey, let's experiment.)
Suddenly, where there were none; now there's three of my own. (I've copy/pasted/saved my URL's and bookmarked them too. I hope one of them works.)
Oh, so that's how you change colors and beam width. (fur out)
Wow, this is different.

There's a really weird bump in my garden that spawned in front of my friend Catherine. It gets selected by a rather big circle on the ground below it which apparently is part of an even bigger circle to the left. I first thought it might be a bird, but it's a bit weirdly shaped for that... maybe a grounded ufo?

And even though I didn't manage to get any fish in my pond (probably because the shark ate them all), I got a flying fish instead! :D

I bet you're right - an underground UFO is the most likely culprit. (Is it a UFO if it's underground?) I've seen a couple "embedded" in the ground or platforms, and I recently got one that was rotated 90 degrees, so that configuration is possible.

Nice flying fish!

Cueball preaches to the animals, even drawing the civets from their harsh, unforgiving habitat. One is even bringing him a tulip. All is not what it seems though, as there is something lurking in the depths. Or maybe it just came to hear him speak as well.

Ha. You think you have lots of turtles? (Well, OK, you do.) I'm now offering a free turtle or linsang with every cactus sold.

I've actually repositioned my lights now explicitly so that none of them are shining on that stack; maybe I can get something to grow somewhere else for a change. I suspect though that some pruning may be required.

Re: 1663: "Garden"

I love my balloon garden. The flowers I'm not especially crazy about, but I want to see what they bloom into before making any hasty culls. I've had two "hilts" for a while, but no blooms. Periodically I change the lighting a bit to see if I stumble across the bloom formula, and now I've just gotten a couple of stringy things growing up from the hilts. Whadya reckon those are?
