I think I'm giving up on the gardening. Apparently it's too much for my computer at work, so I mostly see the spinning tree. Then the garden will flash on the screen briefly, but not long enough to really do any pruning or rearranging of lights. Maybe if I have some time at home this weekend I'll try it on that computer.

But I am loving the gardens all of you are growing, and loving even more reading your interpretations of them. :D

Sadly I get no garden here, my browser reports:

Anyone else see this?

Hogwarts has been invaded by kitty-cats! And if you look very, very carefully, a bunny. (I had to prune Mr. Show-Off's obelisk because there were three kitties hiding behind it. We almost got into an edit war about it: I deleted the obelisk, he almost instantly made it re-appear. I deleted it again, and this time, it looks like he believed me.)
Hogwarts5.png

Oh, and BlitzGirl, I forgot to mention that my own garden has disproved my supposition that cairns can be max 3 stones high: Hogwarts has several piles of 4 rocks, and one of those piles has 3 rocks that are exactly the same size.

Am leaving my garden up over the weekend with no pruning at all since this is running while I'm at work. Let's see what waits for me on Monday.

Everyone seems to be listening to blonde ponytail girl, so I gave her a spotlight. Everyone, that is, except the snake, who is understandably concerned about the approaching cephalopods.

Not quite sure how that table is staying on the deer's back, especially with the lamp on top, but the deer seems unconcerned, so I won't worry about it.

I do have some circles in the air that aren't attached to anything, so I'm hoping I'll get flying stuff there.

That is awesome Funky! I love it.

I may be weird but I decided that I wanted my garden to look like...a garden. With trees and grass maybe a couple of turtles...but only a couple.

Okay and a couple of columns....
Image

Interesting thing about the columns: They are one piece. And there is that tiny little dot between them. I'm not sure what to make of that.

The sale has now expanded to Mars Rovers:

Deer seem to like two lights... Blue and Orange (?) overlapping light in medium intensity(?) but they must have a width and height sufficient for them to fit in the lit area. (looks like your new garden got one fairly quickly ! )

One of my trees seems to have sprouted a long vine-like thing (upper right). It look similar to the usual sticks that bend in the wind, but this one is much more flexible, and undulates more like a string. Anyone else seen one of these? I'm waiting to see what might appear at the end. Curiouser and curiouser... http://xkcd.com/1663/#526e04fe-fc67-11e5-801a-42010a8e0007

[Edit: On closer inspection, the whip-like object isn't actually attached to the tree. It's being held by a guy standing on the plinth and hidden in the foliage. Indy? Is that you?]

The gardens of everyone are very amusing. I wonder where this is going.

I can confirm that orange light makes birds and flying Megans spawn and that it takes a very long time for the first one to spawn (but then you can't stop them xD).

One of my ground-Megans is currently trying to throw a cat at Ponytail. I wonder what Ponytail did to her...?
I'll try and post an image of my garden once I reach 5 posts I guess. c:

OK, I have a theory about the gardens: I think (as has been mentioned before), that each garden has a different inherent potential to grow certain stuff. Only, it's not some random more or less barren etc variety, but something like a different point in earth's geography, with different soil, different climate and so on. Our challenge as gardeners is to find out "where" we are and what our garden reacts to best.

Before, with Time, Randall made us see the perspective of the people living in that time, where something totally unusual happens and you don't have the whole picture but only your own perception to figure it out.

Maybe this is a similar thing, perspective wise, where you get somehow dumped on a random patch of land and have to figure out how to make the best out of the place you found, just like the explorers that went around on ships half a millennium or more ago and found some new patch of land that they basically knew nothing about.

Thoughts?

Hmm, I did manage to grow stuff under any light. Blue, light blue, white, orange, red. It just took longer for some colors than for others. I also seem to be able to grow more if all lights in my garden have either the same color or if they are overlapping.

I started out with mostly white light and got a lot of plants, some animals and a platform. I put a red light directly on that platform and made turtles and cactus grow on it. I admittedly didn't have much luck with spawning an octopus army, but I didn't really try for long. Then I wanted birds, so I made my whole garden orange. Took three days, but I got birds and even flying Megans. Then I wanted cats, so I made my whole garden light blue. Again, it took a day or so, but I got cats.

I felt like things were growing faster if I pruned some stuff every now and then. And that there is a more or less random chance for all objects that grow under a certain light to spawn in your garden, but once you got one of them then (unless you prune it or change the light) you will get many of it before something else that grows under that light will spawn again.

I am currently trying to get ducks. But I have no idea what light they like. xD

I have two gardens and started out with the same light setup in both (white in the middle, red left, blue right, each light overlapping with it's neighbor(s) a bit).

One garden grew loads of different items right away, cacti and turtles on the left, trees and bird baths, a desk etc in the middle and an octopus and a black ponytail on the right. After about two days I changed the middle light to a more blueish hue to stop the foliage on the trees from growing faster than I could prune it.

The other garden has so far grown a total of eight items. Including every little speck of grass that has sprouted somewhere.

Well that could also fit the one grass, many grass theory. Did you try pruning all the grass and looking whether something else appears?

I think my garden had a lot of grass at first, too, but I deleted most of it.

Interesting idea. But it does seem that certain light combinations produce the same results for different people. Of course, not everyone is going to set the lights to the exact same colors, especially for the intermediate colors like orange, so that would probably account for the differences. And some people seem to have more luck growing things, so maybe their patch of garden was more "fertile."

Speaking of things that make gardens grow, apparently threats work. My garden was mostly a spinning tree that would show me a garden briefly now and then, until I threatened to delete it. Poof! it started working perfectly, and I could prune things and change the lights. Then, suddenly, an obelisk:
Image

Here I thought eveyone was listening to Ponytail Girl, but apparently she and everyone else was trying to conjure an obelisk. Successfully, as it turns out.

ETA Meanwhile, the garden on my home computer, just opened up for the first time in a while, is just a lovely, peaceful oasis:
Image
Hopefully that will change.

I just want to know how the heck she got up there on those stilts.

Also, is the snake for sale, or is the snake selling something?

I suppose it could be selling snake oil...

You helped Addams stay in her home, and gave her a better life. She thanks you, and so do I.

I'm not sure how she would get up there without stilts.
I think it's snake oil for sale down by the creek and turtle soup on the mezzanine.

I chopped out a lot of foliage up on the trestle bridge, hoping for more tulips. Instead I got a snake. Pruned that and a turtle appeared. Removed the turtle and tried adding some not-so-desert-coloured light, and now I'm just getting grass. Oh, well.

I may be weird but I decided that I wanted my garden to look like...a garden. With trees and grass maybe a couple of turtles...but only a couple.

Okay and a couple of columns....

Interesting thing about the columns: They are one piece. And there is that tiny little dot between them. I'm not sure what to make of that.

Yes. This is my favorite garden like garden currently.
