Title Text: "I don't think the Lakeshore Air Crash Museum really belongs under 'Tourist Attractions.' It's not a museum--it's just an area near the Lake Festival Laser Show where a lot of planes have crashed."

A good part of this could be the talk page for my city...

Edit; here's a excerpt:
Oakland talk page wrote:Crime references in the intro[edit]
Why is Oakland the only city with a reference to crime in the introduction?

A larger unit doesn't secede from its subunit; a state voluntarily giving up a possession is usually called ceding.

Irregardless your possibility list could be longer. Maybe the city seceded from its county, or from another city that it was part of at one point.

Honestly, I've never seen a Wikipedia talk page that wasn't like this...

i've rarely seek a wikipedia talk page that's this well-structured into subtopics, and never where their titles summarize their contents so a glance through the table of contents gives you a gloss of the whole conversation

Wikipedia is a perpetual reminder to me that sometimes the factory makes some really good sausage, or perhaps something about guessing the weight of a bull - it's definitely to do with livestock and meat production. The fact that the articles as they are can result from the talk pages as they are is really a perpetual triumph of the human spirit.

It's surprisingly hard to get a screencap of Zootopia without a murder happening in the background.

From my own city
  • The size of the city.
  • Animated movies filmed here.
  • Argument about the proper demonym, featuring options I've never heard of before.
  • The largeness of the city.
  • Why is a park from another city listed here?
  • Discussion of building's height.
  • The enbigatude of the city.
  • <Untranscribable>
The thing about recursion problems is that they tend to contain other recursion problems.

Hey I like this game, let's all list glosses of the talk pages of our respective home-places.

For the unincorporated census-designated place where I technically live:
  • A note that the donut shop is not in fact open 24 hours a day
  • A note about bad math (or as it turned out, a typo) in the change in population between censuses (censi? censuum?)

For the closest actually incorporated city:
  • A note about the source of some text to comply with GFDL
  • A debate about whether it was really the filming location for Shangri-la in the film "Lost Horizon"
  • A complaint about an erroneous implication about its mention in the film "Thirteen"
  • Someone wondering if anyone else thinks a local Jewish summer camp really boosts the city's economy in summers
  • A request for citations for the history section
  • Someone expressing incredulity that so. many. famous. people. are claimed to live or have lived here

I thought this sounded like a good idea. Then, I remembered that I grew up in the most boring city in America.

  • Distance from the sea?
  • Pictures
  • South ---- and neighborhoods
  • Photo Ideas
  • Education
  • Fair use rationale for Image:-----
  • Notable residents
  • population
  • state line

And so on.

God, my city was boring:

"I fact-tagged
The town ofwas actually moved for the pit.
But maybe i should have done {{vague}} instead or as well:
1.Were the town's legal boundaries changed?
2.Were all, or most of the residents relocated?
3.Were the homes of those relocated transported to new sites?
4.If not, were demolitions of buildings compensated with unencumbered cash, with new houses built by the mine owners, or with money that could only be spent on new homes?

One would hope that the ref would make this clear, and if not, the ambiguity must be made explicit and explained."

The best one I've lived at.

1. Removed numerous broken links because they are tacky. Added information on the new technical center.

2. Correction of the local slang name for the city in reference to its crime rate.

3. Suburbs do not get to claim metro populations. Please remove this item from the infobox.

4. Is this link to a list of restaurants spam?
  • It's a very limited list and looks paid, but other external links here are technically commercial.
  • None of these restaurants are actually in this city.
  • An actual list of local restaurants could be useful in Wikitravel.
  • Let's add this one to the other city's page instead.

5. Claim of third-largest city in the state contradicts state capital page.

6. Claim of capital page as the third-largest city in the state is wrong.

7. Recent edits have attempted to hide the fact that the city is a suburb.
  • It's not a suburb.

8. It's not a suburb.
  • It's definitely a suburb.

9. List of personal affronts to the mayor in a specified period at the end of the nineteenth century seems unnecessarily detailed.

10. I removed the further reading section. This article should have a further reading section.

Shockingly, neither the talk nor main pages for Duluth, Minnesota mention Bob Dylan. Considering how eager everyone and everything in the city is to remind you that hey did you know Bob Dylan once lived here? Even though he hated it and never came back and doesn't want to be associated with it? this is kind of amazing.

1. Climate - city's climate not actually just like [much bigger city in same state]. Also, use this chart format instead.
2. Economy - [company I've never heard of] is also important to the local economy and its diversity, no really.
3. Anarchy - still relevant, or just kids acting out? "Reboot of five-year discussion"
3. [rural trail] - is this actually a photo of [rural trail]?
* This photo is obviously shopped, anyone got a better one?

Ok new (concurrent) game, guess what city people are talking about from their description of its Wikipedia talk page.

StClair, you are from Eugene, Oregon.

Samik is Nashua, New Hampshire.

This one was really hard, but commodorejohn is from Duluth, Minnesota. It was tricky because his user infobox says Sacramento, but if you look really closely, his post actually says Duluth right in it!

I thought that mine would be long, but there's so much archived that it's actually extremely short:

1. Is the city actually 15% Muslim?
2. Sources, clarification on complete destruction by fire
3. The history article is very brief
5. Is this actually the largest inland city?
6. I clicked on a red link, did not find an article, is that normal?

(I snipped numbers 4 and 6-10, which are just a bunch of automated link-fixing)

I'll check the archives for more cool goodness later.

EDIT: Deleted archive section for now, to make the guessing game more interesting. Will re-add after correct guess.

This is definitely one of the better xkcds, I may note, because it made me laugh out loud AND introduced me to a new hobby to partake in.

I thought my town, McKinney, was important enough to have loads of stuff on its talk page, but all we've got is someone saying a single murder isn't important enough to have it's own section alone, and someone else mentioning they would take a better, more representative picture than the one the page currently has (In 2010. The picture has not changed since).

1. History section:
  • This section sucks, it needs fixing
  • That's just, your opinion, man
  • All other cities in the area are following [format]
  • Yeah, you're right
2. Arguing on how the city was named historically

3. Poll on changing skyline photo, 2 options
  • have 6 more historical ones used in the past to vote on
  • all these new ones suck
  • quibbling on photo obviously being taken on a plane, you can see the blur of the exhaust in one area
4. Note on murders, where is "west [city]" vs "east [city]"
  • City is on tilted N/S axis. north is "west," south is "east"
5. Crime reference in intro
  • Why is [city] the only city with a reference to crime in the introduction?
  • Page keeps getting edited by [rival city] who think that our city is crime-ridden and shitty
  • We need new editors, and kick the old editors out
  • Yeah, you're probably right
6. Nicknames. We need to fix these.
  • I'm native and don't know this nickname
  • Nickname is real, but not common
7. Lead contamination: we have it
  • and how
8. History section: It's way too long, here's what I think.
  • The entire section is blazingly false, and one should revise it post haste.
9. Crime: TL;DR long-winded reason why we're counting it wrong
  • Yup, and racism

This is almost as fun as reading one-star reviews on Trip Adviser!

I gave it a try, and after a bit of browsing to find a suitably small-but-not-tiny city I came upon Minot, ND. The talk page is a gem. It starts with a discussion about what to call residents:

People from Minot
I really do not want to make this a point of contention, but it is a fact that the term Minoter is still used in the media[…]—poppyhaitian

"Minoter" may have been used in the past, but this term is not currently used in the local media or colloquially among citizens. In fact, I've heard "Minotian" out of people's mouths far more than "Minoter." Both terms sound rather odd to any resident […] There is no generally accepted term for the people of Minot, and attempting to select one for the purposes of an encyclopedia article is improper.—Alexwcovington

And then someone just steps in and wins:

this is stupid
this is so stupid. everyone knows that a person from Minot is called a Minotaur.

Best of all, the original poster takes them seriously:

What are you talking about? A person from Minot has NEVER been referred to as a Minotaur. You're probably thinking about your old history classes, but not Minot. Gosh! Don't be such a freakin' idiot!—poppyhaitian

Typical Minotaur! Guess poppy got the brains half of the bull.—Gene Nygaard

That's sounds like Santa Barbara but in reverse, where "north" is west and "south" is east. (And "driving north into the sunset" is thus a daily thing for many commuters).

Also for some reason the murders and "other city badmouthing us" made me think Oakland (vs San Francisco) and I wasn't going to actually guess that but now I see it's what your user infobox says, so... yay intuition.

The game is to give your own gloss of the talk page table of contents, not just copy it verbatim.

To make it a game, the following is actually accurate, but strategically censored. (It should be easy enough to just search for the plaintext bits, to at least start to narrow it down.)

Sheffield. (I got that from "Canterbury Tales image" alone).

Now Lothario O'Leary's is surprisingly difficult. You'd think a large (possibly the largest) inland city in some place that was (possibly) completely destroyed by fire and has a 15% Muslim population would narrow things down, but no luck so far. Someone else take a stab at this.

(Also I know that my stated location -> thataway (or possibly <- thataway?) might at least help narrow things down a lot. Albeit there's maybe a dozen cities in that area, depending on how and what you count...)

* Unspecified section was removed because it only had one source.
** Put it back because it was informative and probably written from personal knowledge.
* Blob of text that should be in the article, not the talk page. (The economy is based on these crops and two big box retailers. Half of the people working and shopping here are from out of state because minimum wage is much higher and there's no sales tax.)
* Why is the street layout described in such meticulous detail?
* five word topic sentence fragment

Nothing about the pervasive smell of onions and food processor waste ponds, strangely enough.

Hmm. My current hometown has:

1 <town name>
2 Low Waters
3 Origin of the town's name
4 Page looks ugly
5 <town name> - the 5th largest town in the country?
6 Having a little problem
7 Economy
8 Footnotes
9 Merge proposal for <suburb>
10 D. Livingstone

Also, despite being the place that all the other places with the same name are named after, it doesn't even show up as an autocomplete suggestion when you search for it. :)

Mine seems fairly dull...

1. Spelling vs. pronunciation
2. St. Paul's Cathedral is not a suburb
3. Waterways Museum no longer National

With the archived version:

1. Where in the UK are we, anyway?
2. Help me add a census!
3. We have a flag? I've never seen it.
4. Pronunciation?
5. Expand the sport and leisure section? Does Esporta exist?
6. Why are we the only Three Choirs city that doesn't mention it?
7. This county map is all wrong. Unitary authorities!
8. Shouldn't we have pages for our districts?
9. Why is there a link to the Lib Dem website?
10. Which valley is this bypassing?
11. The etymology derives from the Roman, not Anglo Saxon. IMO.
12. When did we become a city?
13. I don't think an encyclopaedia is the place for a list of which shops are in each shopping centre.
14. According to the History section, nothing happened here between 1643 and 1994.
- It's true, nothing happened.

Another fun place I've lived:

* If you have a problem with my edits (added the word 'racist' throughout the article) discuss it here, because I am very busy and don't have time to keep putting it back.
** Restored your edit because it is properly sourced and needs discussion.
* Please change "news websites showed video of kids chanting 'assassinate Obama' on school buses" to "news websites showed video of school buses" because the videos don't show the event in question.
** OK.
* Reply to deleted edit request: post the line you want to change, not the entire article.
* Please change the population to this unsourced number.

I laughed.

The Train Station designed by Andrew Lloyd Weber was good.
The expected commonality of Frank Lloyd Wright's name entered wrong.

No..Not entered wrong.
"Roof Collapse"

It was a Real Old Fashioned PunchLine!

I liked it!
What fun!

The nuro-connections have been made, in my head.
All roof collapse ask, "Lloyd Weber Architecture?"

Left one open because it was particularly entertaining. Town I grew up in... The catbus owner was arrested for driving drunk people home requiring no payment from them (but accepting hella tips) the local taxi company raised hell for over a year. Also hi Addams!

POV issues

I really don't like the paragraph on Future Growth. (Speaking as a Quincian, nonetheless)

Nice game! The talk page for the place I'm currently living is boring as ... something really boring. Except for
1 <omitted> does not have anything to do with a university

and from the archived page:
7 Notable natives
(...)
7.10 Some old bloke
8 Bogus inhabitants?

However, a strategically <edited> table of contents for some another town is more interesting:

1 older comments
2 <omitted> a major newspaper?
3 Capital?
4 Conan O'Brien
5 The origin of the name "<city>"
6 Pronunciation of <city>
7 Climate
8 Motto?
9 Rivalry Between Cities
10 <city> was never officially founded?
11 Ice Hockey vs. Football in <city>
12 <city> International School
13 Climate table
14 The age of <city>
15 <language> / <another language> names
16 External links modified
17 <censored> series of books and films

This comic is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. Very well done, Mr. Munroe.

Aw, my town has nothing interesting on its talk page. One of the topics was a proposal to remove the "In popular culture" section, which they went through with... understandable considering there must have been one or two things there at most.
