Title Text: "Wait, sorry, I got mixed up--he's actually almost 50. It's the kid from The Karate Kid who just turned 40."

NOW I feel young: IRL Ralph Machhio is older than me!

What is the title text talking about? Jaden Smith is only 19.

Well, Randall got me. But in the "someone is younger than I thought, either him then or me now" way, before I got beyond the dialogue bit. ;)

Randall needs more honest work and fewer hobbies.

And then it turns out he got us twice, since they're both 56.

But which is better: work that you can make your work, or work that you can make your hobby?

Ralph Macchio: Still the only 20-something who ever played a convincing teenager.

I mean seriously. Michael J. Fox looked 30.

He only got me once since I already knew that MC Hammer was the same age as my mother but, I didn't know that the guy who played the Karate Kid was actually a few months older. I guess I knew he had to be older than 40 (I was born about half a year after that movie came out, so I'm 33) but 56 surprised me.

What does that have to do with anything? Hilary Swank is 43.

Why is Randall obsessed with making people feel old? It feels like every other comic is one of these, and it's not a meme I recall encountering anywhere else.

Hilary Swank wasn't in The Karate Kid - she was in The Next Karate Kid, which came out years before The Karate Kid.

Isn't that one of those movies that Doesn't ExistTM, like any Matrix movie other than the first one? Or am I mixing it up with something?

Max Casella.

I was shocked the first time I looked him up on imdb and found out he'd been 20-something during all of Doogie.

Stacy Dash, who played a teenager alongside Alicia Silverstone in Clueless, was 28 at the time, 10 years older than AS.

Wikipedia saith: Karate Kid first appeared in Adventure Comics #346 (July 1966) and was created by Jim Shooter.

Your move.

I mean ... I don't think anyone would be fooled for a second by a claim that MC Hammer was 40. That would mean he was 11 when U Can't Touch This came out.

I haven't thought about MCH for a long time but if you'd asked me to estimate his age, I'd have said he seemed about 30 when U Can't Touch This came out, and that was about 30 years ago, so he's about 60.

I keep running into instances of this. Like Emma Thompson in Men In Black 3, who's supposed to have been an unremarkable secretary in the MIB agency at the time of the first Apollo moon landing. Because I'm about a week and a half older than Ms Thompson, I know that she would have been a remarkable secretary because she was ten years old at the time.

Or when I recently managed to get ahold of the three aired episodes of the short-lived TV series "The Playboy Club", set in 1961 (to cash in on some of that oh so sweet Mad Men early '60s nostalgia), where one episode features Lesley Gore performing at the original Club in Chicago.

At a time when Lesley Gore would have been fifteen. She may have been an early bloomer, but I doubt they would have let an underage singer into a place that even other characters on the show confused with "a strip club".

More like Equity ones, amongst other things. They are associated persons, but they aren't Americans or (despite both being 70, this year) retired/retiring.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Krankies
On 24 December 2015, the Krankies appeared on the BBC One programme Pointless, losing out to Su Pollard and Jeffrey Holland to get to the final.

Owing to her diminutive frame, Janette Krankie was unable to produce children, however the Krankies announced the arrival of their daughter, Mary-Agnes, on 17th July 2016, born to surrogate mother Debby McGregor from Kippen, who they met through the swingers website Midget Love. Initially hesitant of having her 'cod battered' by Ian Krankie, the baby was later conceived at an undisclosed location in Airdrie.

Emily Perkins in Ginger Snaps is particularly convincing.

"Karate Kid" is not "The Karate Kid".

"MC Hammer Age" - I guess that's the total elapsed Hammertime, right?

The Electric Light Orchestra was the music I grew up with and the head of ELO, Jeff Lynne is 70 years old now.

Surprisingly, he doesn't look that old.

For years I've been calling him "the Littlest Wilbury", a title to which he lost even potential competition when Tom Petty died.

That's just unnatural for 70. I wonder if he has a portrait in his attic.

Weirder things have happened.
