Hey, I don't make the rules. It's in the book.
http://xkcd.com/330/

First!

Also, I need to spring this rule on a couple of friends, clearly. AWESOMENESS!

I'll never be bored for more than 59 minutes at a time again. A carefully placed cell phone game of snake and/or computer with Minesweeper shall save me.

This is all thrown out the window if females are involved.

I think this is the first time I've seen writing in non-caps in an xkcd comic!
Signature under construction.
Estimated completion time: October 2013.
Estimated cost: $3.1 billion.

I like how nonchalant the last frame of the comic is.

Comic: :D

My first thought on reading the comic: Oh boy, I can't wait to see the forum discussion on *this one*. In fact, I'm kinda disappointed it hasn't hit the gutter yet. You're slipping, people. ;-)

Once again, the alt text is a big win. I love the idea of bureaucractic apathy applied to such a surreal scenario. Very Douglas Adams.

Hmmmm, why did I turn this post into a book report? Maybe because I'm too tired to think of anything clever.

And why am I talking to myself in a forum post?

So... now that we've discussed the comic... what do you guys want to do?
So, I got tired of the fact that the appearance of my band name in my signature made my posts on this forum the dominant result when googling for my music. Anyway, if you think I might happen to be a good musician, you can test this theory here.

So how does "Wait, I think there's a rule about this" in the first panel fit in with "I did not know that rule / Me neither" in the last panel?

They knew there was a rule in relation to consistent indecision, but not what it was the rule involved.

Strangely enough, this happens between me and my boyfriend all the time. We'll hang out for a bit, run out of things to do, and pretty soon the clothes start coming off. (Still technically fits the rule, as we're "friends" of a sort.)

Introducing this rule would make life in my sorority house interesting....

We should definitely introduce that rule in your sorority house! With a webcam. ;-)

Goading lesbianism in women is Rule #203 of being male.

But yeah, Crisco? Ewww... I won't even cook with that stuff.

I enjoy the use of "Did not" as opposed to the contraction form. That's what makes it so nonchalant.

Meh. Males can think up all kinds of crazy shit to do. I'm not worried. Last week we cut down two trees in our backyard. Just had a buddy over with his chainsaw and did it.

Couple weeks before that I trimmed the bush (ha) in our front yard to look like a face. We are calling it President Bush.

It looks kinda like an evil face, and by face I mean crappily trimmed bush.

Oh yeah, and I only use extra virgin olive oil

I disagree. Toilet paper can be had for two or three dollars and can easily turn someone's property into a late-night adventure.

Hmmm, they're both male right? :| I assume if one was a female she'd have the typical XKCD hair.

I examined the body language, the one on the right is certainly male and the one on the left is probably male. :|

Hmm. A good way to determine if a person is interested in you. Tell them the rule. Continue to normally socialize for half an hour. Then claim to have no clue what to do. Turn down all suggestions they make for 45 minutes. Remind them of the rule. See how desperate to find an alternative activity they become. If they don't become desperate, you are set.

*Side note* With a friend of mutual interest it seems to be more like 6 minutes than 60.

Mmmm... this is not the first unexpectedly homosexual (or at least homo-make-out-ual) reference (see Parallel Universe). Randall must be very comfortable with his masculinity ;)

Also, lots of refences to making out with oneself. What is up with that? Am I the only person who has never contemplated this / has no desire to do this?

Funny comic, love how I did not see that coming. Huge implications for people everywhere - friendships will NEVER be the same again!
