0359: "Rock Band"

Postby wing » Wed Dec 19, 2007 5:07 am UTC

Alt Text: I'm gonna have to add something to the strum bar so it makes a clicky sound like the old controllers. I'm so used to the feedback; the silence throws me off.

Not sure about the alt-text. Too... Normal. But the comic itself is PURE TRUTH. Every Rock Band team knows a guy like that.

I love this comic, sums up the type that says something along the lines of "Why don't you get a real guitar and learn how to play?". Why would I? This is a ton of fun :D .

Major QFT on the comic. I get sick of people telling me that Rock Band and Guitar Hero don't mean I'm a real rock star. I know that, I'm not stupid... I play the game because it's fun, so shut up and leave me alone already.

I disagree about the alt-text though, I love the quiet strum bar. Now if only they can figure out how to make the buttons quieter...

For those that have it, anyone need to send in for a second replacement guitar? The first replacement is starting to not be responsive, so it's back to me Xplorer, until the second replacement arrives...

I recently played rockband at my friends house and I have to say I loved it. The only issue I had was with his guitar, strumming down sometimes stoped working(always at the wrong time :'( ) and I had to strum up for a while.

Ahh, that's why God (TM) made the Les Paul that ships with GH3. Tis' heaven in a guitar my friend (if you got one without neck connection problems).

diotimajsh wrote:*Cough-8thnote'sflagisgoingthewrongdirection-cough*

True, and it's interesting to note how often "mathy" people make that mistake - they think it should look like a normal 8th note rotated 180 degrees, but it's actually half reflection around a horizontal axis (for the flag) and half rotation (the stem switches sides). Crazy.

Edited to fix my own stupidity.

God didn't create PS3s so we could waste all that processing power on something we can already do without any processing power at all by forming a real rock band. God made PS3s for running Linux, or playing Katamari Damacy.

And on top of that, they're clearly playing Rock Band on a PS3, as evidenced by the black console and wireless instruments.

Actually, I've traced back the source of GH3 controller neck problems. It's people being too gentle. You have to be fairly forceful in connecting your neck to the body, or there's a little bit of play in it. Entirely understandable considering how protective people are of that sort of equipment, though.

It doesn't, but the comic isn't either. It's showing the vocal track on top, and the guitar and drum parts on the bottom.

The comic is missing a right border and it's kind of unnerving.

Oh MAN so much awesome. My friends and I have put in about 40 hours of Rock Band in the past week, and it is still as amazing as when we started. The whole character customization thing is the best part. My one problem is I have a tough time making the star po--I mean, ENERGY turn on with the included guitar. I was literally pogoing, rocking out practically epileptic-style, and not getting it to work. But I do that even when I'm not trying to use energy...it's that much fun.

I find the clicking with the old controllers really obnoxious. Plus the new controller is much bigger, which is more comfortable. The only annoy thing about about it is the responsiveness issues.

But it's tons of fun.

NightStar wrote:My one problem is I have a tough time making the star po--I mean, ENERGY turn on with the included guitar.

Interesting, I never had problems. In fact, after going back to the older controllers, then I found it really hard to activate.

Your first sentence contradicts the rest. Having fun to them is playing a game that imitates real life. Are you morally opposed to charades?

I found that if I just strum hard enough I get the clickity feedback.

Also, RB is fun but none of my friends seem interested in coming over and playing it. So I'm left to play alone.

I never got into GH. It looks like something that I would either love (like so many other people I know) or something that I'd play for like ten minutes, go "meh" and never touch it again. Plus I've been a little skittish of console peripherals used only for a small number of games ever since I got burned by the Super Scope 6 on the SNES. Oh yeah, and I also have no timing or rhythm whatsoever. Add all that with my carpal tunnel and it just doesn't seem meant to be.

....heh. And I can't help but think that GH and Rock Band are kinda like DDR for people too lazy to jump around :D

I had someone call me a poser for admitting to pay Guitar Hero. The conversation was something like this-

"I heard you play that guitar game"
"Yeah, it's a lot of fun"
"S now you think you can play the guitar right! Haha!"
"No, I have no idea how to play a guitar, but the game is fun"
"Whatever, poser."

The comic hit home with me =P

Show me who can teach me to rock out at Don't Fear the Reaper, Won't Get Fooled Again, and Highway Star on the first try after never seeing it before (and after playing the "guitar" for probably under 30 hours) while I'm in a real rock band, and I'll give you $100.

I want to see the creation of symphonic orchestra games like this, a la Violin Hero or Bassoon Hero. Now that would be badass.

Regarding the alt-text:
How to improve the Rock Band guitar strummer.

I still haven't played Rock Band.
Or Guitar Hero for that matter.
I've played Frets on Fire, though, it's an open source version of Guitar Hero.
