I have the feeling I'm not going to have read any of the comics parodied this week.

This one feels a little cheap because I've only read parts of Megatokyo. But it's more about Fred than the comic.

Megatokyo

Postby Sandalphon » Tue Aug 15, 2006 6:44 pm UTC

I stopped reading Megatokyo shortly after Largo, the real-life collaborator, jumped ship on it and Gallagher took it full-sail into shoujo territory, throttle set to the maximum 'angst' setting…

Not a horribly bad drawing of what's-her-face there, and, really, offering Fred Gallagher consolatory cake is an amusing idea. By all accounts, the guy truly, really is that down on himself, from the words of everyone whose ever met him or seen him at cons. Kinda sad.

I never read megatokyo, and I'm completely ok with that. I've seen the fanbase, and it irks me. or urks. whichever suits your fancy. cat fancy.

but yeah, over conscientious much?

Ever since the laughter died he can't get a break. XD

It seems this is the case for many people. I suppose it is the only interesting thing.

And it's certainly not the only comic with which you could do the same (ie. mock the creator instead of the comic itself).

I did read the whole MT arkives a few years back… boy was it tedious. I think I've checked back only once since then.

Again, it's not the only such comic, but it's probably the oldest of them.

Please tell me I'm not going to get lynched for bumping this thread...

The reason I found this comic so funny was that Fred (I think) found that people had been drawing hentai using MT characters, and he did take it pretty harshly. Of course, I found it insanely hilarious that he reacted like this, and subsequently found this comic insanely hilarious.

Lynched yes, for this no. Actually, for no reason at all other then that lynchings bring the community together and are fun. Thanks for volunteering by suggesting it.

Didn't he at one point say he would discontinue the comic if he discovered more hentai of his characters?
Naturally, the response to this was horrible evisceration porn.

Yeah, you can thank the 4chan community for alot of that. The /b/ tards had a competition to see who could draw the most gruesome guro with a Megatokyo character. I can only assume no one bothered to pass the pictures to Fred.

He didn't kick the other guy out, they had a creative splitup.

As for the 4chan posters who think drawing Megatokyo hentai to piss off the author is cool: I think that the asshole nature of the Internet(SomethingAwful is probably the most amazing example of such, and if I ever met Lowtax I would have to suppress my urge to kill him for being such an asshole and such an asshole-enabler) is probably one of its worst features.

heckuva bump

Anyway, I think that this part of the internet is a good antithesis to the "Internet is Serious Business" crowd who for some reason feel threatened when their precious comic characters get drawn by someone else at the wrong end of a tentacle.

Also, the Internet is Serious Business. Please report to the lynching immediately ;)

I have observed a distinct lack of linkage in this thread. I've decided that it comes down to me to fix that!

It's possible that Fred was holed up and wasn't answering the door because he had confused the xkcd stickmen with those horrible Dom stickmen.
