Alt Text: the Ronpaul wants to put the New Republic back on the corusca gem standard.

I hate the Ronpaul and his army of Diggers

I have to say, I don't really get the alt-text. The comic was good though.

Why do you hate him? I'll never understand why people hate a candidate because he/she has loyal supporters.

Anyway, to avoid a flame war, I'm assuming the alt-text has something to do with StarWars, which would explain why I don't entirely understand it... Anyone care to explain?

Corusca gems are described on Wookieepedia. And I think I am appalled that such a site exists.

Oh man, just what we needed. Politics in xkcd.

Remember folks, vote Vandole for President 2008! He/she/it is Canadian! (or at least the location is Canada).

Dear Randall,

You know, I thought I wasn't like all the others. I thought I would never say "Are you spying on me?"
But now...
No, I still won't say it. But this is just scary, this is. My secret santa present was a boxful of Star Wars EU books that revived the old obsession in me, and now I'm reading through them again and thinking about how it really *was* my world. The past week has been filled with reminders of my sordid past with a Galaxy Far, Far Away (Thanks, CorranH).

And then? This comic.
ROAR.

Vote Gravel. He's nuttier than anyone you'll ever meet.

I'm too much a fantasy nerd to get too sci-fi'ed and thus i dodged the bullet of reading the 4 trillion star wars books.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Cheney / Voldemort 2008!

But yeah, this was a good comic. The best humor is based on truth, and it does seem like a whole lot of people "grew" out of Star Wars and into the Ronpaul.

I hadn't ever heard of/noticed that the Ronpaul had a lot of geeky/ex-geeky supporters, but as a hardcore Star Wars fan, this comic, and most especially the alt-text, made me laugh like there was no tomorrow.

I finally had to register to comment on this one. I haven't found many people who enjoyed both Zahn's books and the X-Wing series by Michael A Stackpole but if you asked those would have to be my two favorite authors from the EU novels. I lived on those books in Jr. High. :)

Incidentally, Corusca gems are better off being used to construct lightsabers. You can use some worthless metal for currency instead.

the Ronpaul is not a Bush-type neocon Republican like all the other candidates. Most of his supporters are libertarians, Republicans who have left the party in disgust until now, and a various grab-bag of disaffected political affiliations. There certainly aren't any pro-Bush Republicans in the mix. Just as an example, he opposed both the Iraq War and the Patriot Act from the beginning.

Bah, I generally dislike getting too involved in politics. I'm still having trouble deciding if I'm a Democrat or Republican. <_<

And the alt text's meaning completely eludes me.

Seriously though, I understand the feeling, this other politics forum that I frequent is about 75% threads about the Ronpaul. I think I need to start writing the extended the Ronpaul trilogy.

And I don't have those books sitting in a box in my basement at all.

GAH! This is CRAZY cuz the Ronpaul and Star Wars were too big discussions I had tonight with a bunch of forumites IRL in the North End in Boston.

Ah, this brings me back. Actually, no, it brings me now. Having ignored all Star Wars books since high school, I came across (and started re-reading) the Timothy Zahn trilogy the other day. Garn. And now I'm rehooked, and wondering where my X-wing series books got to. Or maybe I should finish off the New Jedi Order. Probably that, actually.

don't even need to obsessively follow. simple scoreboard: months and months of hailing him as Jesus F'n Christ and all these monies raised and all, he comes in 5th place in Iowa - can't even beat Mr. Law & Order and a guy who barely had a dime to spend on anything (McCain). He did beat out Mr. 9/11 though, so there's that to hang his hat on.

i would like to think i grew out of FANaticism... but i am sure i am still obessessed about things, i just havn't realized.

I was listening to local rightwing radio, they carried a show called The Power Hour syndicated at like, 11PM until 1, so sometimes I'll tune in for the lulz. They had someone on talking about the dangers of plastics and how bad it is for our health then the host mentioned, "If we get the Ronpaul in the white house, he'll get things fixed up!"

Uh, isn't the Ronpaul anti-regulatory, so wouldn't you run the risk of having *more* crap in your products?

I used to be semi-obsessive about Star Wars books, but that disappeared somewhere a few years back. I still read the ones Matthew Stover wrote though, some reason those just stood out for me.

Erm, I don't really see any the Ronpaul hate in a comic based more on that Paul has fanatics rather than supporters (unless you mean some post that I totally missed when reading the thread. I've been known to do that.)

There are plenty of reasons not to like the Ronpaul (he cares about the first half of the Tenth Amendment, and ignores the second, he's a hypocrite when it comes to a state-level right to privacy...I won't go into detail since this isn't a political thread, though I'd be happy to talk about it over PM), and I agree his supporters should not be on that list of reasons, but I really don't think anyone here has given them as a reason.

Randall, this has to be the funniest xkcd I have read in a long time, as a Canadian and a diehard the Ronpaul fan that can't stop reading digg and the Ronpaul related websites. xkcd needs to be published as a book, I'd buy it for sure...
