<3 red spiders.

Edit: Above poster, I was late. OP sucks for not linking, but he was first. Also, it is irritating as hell to try to reply three times and be asked to confirm because someone else just posted. ARGH JUST LEMME POST. o.o

I'm a little disappointed by the pinkness of the red spiders, but it is nice to see them make another appearance.

Yay, the red spiders are back!

They look a lot different than they used to... still only six legs, though.

Oh no! The spiders, they've evolved... into head crabs!

(Edit: Yes, I know they only have 4 legs, but the proportions are pretty close. Keep them away from your face, in any case.)

I never really understood why there were red spiders. What the point of them was. Now I guess I can imagine that they were all leading up to this comic.

But still, red spiders? What?

No, the headcrabs have evolved into red spiders.

I feel weird, I'm having one of those Randall's in my head / am I prescient moments cause I posted this earlier today.

I wonder why they're not really red. Maybe they're like mosquitoes and require blood.

Hmm, these spiders look a lot worse than the originals. Solid color instead of shading, etc.

Also in Red Spiders 2 they had cute feet!

Hmm, the guy definitely has had experience with the spiders, maybe he's cursed or their messiah or something.

Wait, if they need to drink blood to maintain their color, would that make them vampire flamingos?

I too was wondering when the red spiders were going to come back, looking through some earlier comics yesterday. I'm not sure if he's planned this comic strip for some time or just ran out of ideas :)

You may be correct regarding red spider physiology -- I suppose I shall consult my National Audubon Society Mythological Arthropod Field Guide and get back to you...

I tried to think of a witty response to "mythological arthropod," but the only mythic bug I could think of was Y2K. I'm sure someone else will have something, though.

Edit: I guess there are giant spiders, but they're not particularly interesting, and blatantly violate square-cube laws. Not to mention their lack of a proper vascular system.

They're in a balloon. How did the spiders reach them?

I think we've underestimated their craftiness.

I seriously do not think that this is the same species of spider as was seen in earlier comics. These spiders are a slightly different colour, they have shorter legs, and plumper bodies.

That said, I hope that this is not a graceful method of folding up the comic. Randall comes full circle, reintroducing the spiders, and they take over the comic attacking everything and everyone. The End.

How dare you suggest such a thing.

I guess we were too slow with launching that counter-offensive huh?

The legs on these new spiders are a bit on the short side too, perhaps this is a different type of red spider, evolved to be best suited for aerial takedowns?
-lighter skin so as to blend easier into the background?
-large gas-filled bodies to float on the wind?
-stubbier legs for a tighter grip?

Oh man, we are so dead.

Yes. Quite probably these were more aerodynamic spiders.

It's also possible they hooked onto the balloon before take-off.

More to the point, I would have been terrified if I had been in a balloon and it had been attacked by spiders, but this guy seems nonchalant. Methinks he's in cahoots with them.
