0231: "Cat Proximity"

Postby Pathway » Mon Mar 05, 2007 5:01 am UTC

Alt-text: "I don't even know how many one-sided conversations like this we've had."
Alt-text changed to: "Yes you are! And you're sitting there! Hi, kitty!"

It's true.

I'm allergic to cats, so I'm not particularly fond of them. :( Except Claire's cat, Marco. He's HUGE. Massive. Hover cat. :D

It brings me great joy to look at him and giggle.

Fortunately, I am never close enough in range to allow the stupid half of my brain to take over. (Although one might argue that it has already taken over. :()

No. It doesn't. Babies are gross. And loud.

But yes, this comic has been proven with extensive testing of the apartment cat.

Total retardation ensues.

Also, injuries. She's not a terribly friendly cat.

I start replacing nouns in various songs with the word "kitty" when I'm near my kitty <.<

Toto's "Love Isn't Always on Time" becomes "Kitties Aren't Always on Time", for instance.

Oh, I was thinking "Love Isn't Always On Kitties."

Also, love this comic. It is pretty true!

Why stop at 'Near'? After the infinitely inane statement of a smooch, it rapidly gets more serious as your friends realize you're beginning to engulf the cat.

hahahah i do that too! "Why cant i be Kitty?" that one gets a goofy dance and the cat usually escapes my grasp before the halfway mark of the song.

Am I the only one who just chats with my friend Catherine w/ changing tone of voice or speech dynamics?

Our conversations tend towards:
"Why do you have to watch me clean your box"
*Stare*
"I'm not your slave, you know?"
*stare*
"This would be easier if you ate less"
*licks mouth*
"You little %&#^@"
*rub rub*
"Alright, I'm sorry" *goes back to scooping*
But it raining and me peeing on your foot are NOT mutually exclusive.

I think there's a dark aura about cats that they use to control our minds, forever plotting, forever scheming.

Tell me, would this work at all for a baby?
Image

To be fair, it seems a common trait among those of us who do not have children to not find babies cute. I imagine that there is a bit of a change that occurs when one becomes a parent such that they no longer think infants are ugly.

"There is only one beautiful child in the world, and every mother has it."

Just because you have kids does not mean you think all kids are cute! You just really love your kid, because it is yours.

babies are awesome cute, once they are past the stage when they look like wrinkled bruises. after 3 months they are adorable, for about a year or so. then its back down ye olde hill.

That's true enough. However, most parents seem to find infants actually aesthetically appealing.

This is so true it hurts me. However, I'm going to say that with cats that aren't your own, that graph spikes at about 1/2 to 3/4 of the distance. Even closer if there's a litter of kittens.

I like that this has brought out the cat pictures.

I've found the graph to be true for guinea pigs as well. When I'm within a two foot radius of my guinea pig. my entire vocabulary consists of the word pig and it's variants... "piggy piggle pig piggs." I've also found no matter what I name said guinea pig his name will always turn out to be piggles.

... and every dog is named pooper.

I call my friend Catherine pussycat. I agree with the truth in this comic. Far away cats are ignorable, but close ones are incapacitating.

Pets are like beer. Drunk people have a good time because they don't care if their jokes are stupid.

Pets let people be less inhibited around each other.

I'm just crazy about cats. I've read that they're more responsive to higher pitched voices, so I try to talk to them in a falsetto voice. Since the semantic content of what one says to a cat doesn't matter to the cat, I also tend to babble meaninglessly to them. Cats also seem to like me; I'm pretty good at getting cats who haven't met me before to let me touch them.

I'm not so good with dogs, though. I let them walk all over me, often literally, and they end up totally spoiled and uncontrollable if you let me near them for too long.

Also, I've never seen a stick figure cat drawn that way, but it looks great. It would be nice to be able to draw well, but it would take me so much effort to learn how that I never really tried.

It must be that second one. The only thing I notice when I get closer to a baby is that it smells worse.

And it's (subjectively) louder.

And I have a higher chance of being vomited on. (This isn't "noticed" per se, though a "chance of being vomited on" sense would be a worthy superpower)
