Classy. A pic and a link in one.

And no, Love isnt compliacted enough. It should be complex and therefore only available to us maths people who understand what i actually means, so that we end up with less dumbasses in the world.

I always thought mathematicians were less likely to understand love (with people), and more likely to only love math.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this.

I never did understand why love had to go and be all complicated. Why can't two people who obviously like or even love each other just say it, and be happy? Nooo...they gotta let other crap get in the way. Stupid humans.

Hey now. Don't hate. We literature and humanities folk need to get our loving as well.

And last I checked, we're not terribly stupid.

Though I guess I still fall in your classification, because I *did* get as far as i in math...

But definitely, for sure, love should be kept away from engineers somehow...

Ah, hell, we do a good enough job of that ourselves! :D

I've never really gotten the whole Valentine's day thing. First of all, it's a holidya created by greeting card making companies to sell cards, second of all who placed such a holiday in February? If you'd kiss somebody you'd eighter transmit a cold or get you'r lips frozen together!

Atleats it gives me an excuse to haraass the cute girl by calling her, so it isn't all bad :P

I believe you're making the assumption that love is a prerequisite for procreation.

Last I checked it wasn't.

Could be an interesting world if that were the case though.

If only humans were promiscuous and reproduced seasonally. Simpler courtship rituals and you get it over with in a few weeks. Not that the whole courtship/pair bonding thing isn't fun, I just spend more time being lonely than I do having benefiting from it. And maybe we could be marsupials or something too, giving birth to something with a head that size is unnatural. And I want a new spinal column arrangement, mine is just stupid. It is not necessary to have all my processing, ranged sensory, AND respiratory/eating devices packed into a heavy block on short neck that I have to turn to aim my eyes just to enable me to see above things. I want my brain, digestive tract, and mouth packed into a unit just above where my legs attach with eyes, ears, and noses on stalks, so I don't have to worry about head injuries and holding 30kg of stuff up with a flexible spinal column. I figure I need two or three eye stalks, so I can see 360deg around me, look around while watching for obstacles when running, and have full binocular vision, not just that half-assed eyes-2-inches-apart stuff humans have. Something like the known space puppeteers might work, if it had a good hand/tentacle structure. Which brings me to hands: they don't cut it for talking to computers! 6 hours of playing fps's and typing out code and I can't use a pencil. Not that I use pencils much. Anyway, time for sleeping.

I hate my body.

Only bitter people say that, IMO. Instead of giving all my love on one day, I try to spread it out equally over the whole year. Of course, as an engineer, 0.0027 is functionally close to zero, which can cause problems.

Love is like musical chairs. Valintine's day is like when the music stops, and anyone with a chair gets to feel good about themselves. And the guy left standing is usually an engineer.

I must agree with today's comic, the alt text in particular. Next universe, we're putting Randall in charge. A well written, commented, and documented system of love would go a long way towards improving the world as a whole.

Love: Gimme the frickin' API.
"Don't you see?!"

"Get out of my bed, Randall, I'm trying to sleep!"

Your results may vary.

Yes. Why don't we have a *day every day. Then life would be the epitome of interesting.

It's just highlighting narrow mindedness. Everyday should be a day to look forward to, to spend time doing something we like or not like, we shouldn't have to be told when to do it. Or maybe that's beyond the breadth of most peoples thought.
I'm trying to be petty or anything, I kind of like the idea of these days, especially if it means people do actually enjoy themselves. I just don't like the fact that they can become far too controlling and spend_money_to_show_your_love() orientated, especially the way the media presents them.

... You realise that love is not a physical, spendable resource, right?

Aha, my one major problem with the world, people feel they have to do something because someone tells them to.

Why not choose for yourself that it doesn't become the media's idea. Make it your own individual day, just be grateful that the main idea has been come up with yourself, now customize it to suit you, don't feel you have to do anything!

The attitude of hating Valentine's Day for the sake of hating it really annoys me. I can understand if you've recently been through a breakup and you're seeing all these couples around you and it reminds you of good times you don't have any more, it might be a little sad. But all these people who are just like "Grrr, I hate V-Day" really annoy me. So what if people want to buy each other chocolate and give each other nice cards on some day of the year. It's like being resentful of other people's happiness and that's an attitude that will just make you more miserable. Be happy for your fellow people.

Also, some people say that anyone who goes along with V-Day tradition is just a sheep who can't act nicely towards their loved one without being told to by society, but that's totally not true. It's just a day set aside to remind you, or give you an excuse to put extra effort into things. Doesn't mean you can't put extra effort in on other days too if you want to.

I think insecurity is the main issue here, as often in these cases both people doubt the other reciprocates. I myself am kind of dense like that and never assume that someone feels for me any more than a friend. And there's always the issue of unrequited love =p

Yeah, I agree - I feel like this is another case of over-interpreting the shallow, literal meaning of a social custom and ignoring the huge social function that it provides. It's great for a couple that's been together for a while to be reminded to focus their energy on each other every once and a while. And, on a completely different level, it makes it EASY to get a date! Every person in the country wants to go on a date on Valentine's day!

It doesn't have to mean, "Oh, you're too stupid to know how to have a relationship by yourself, so have some greeting cards and sugar pressed into heart shapes while you try to find someone who will have sex with you."
