8 hours sleep. Must be nice. I'm lucky if I get 5. Often times I end up getting to sleep at 1:30 or even 2 and up at 6. I'm a sysadmin by day and I run a web hosting company (where I'm also a sysadmin) by night. I used to have to get 7-8 hours sleep to be functional, now I can somehow work ok on 5. And its funny because I envied those people who only needed to sleep 4 hours a night. Now its not so fun.

When I'm in classes, I drift around so much. I think I spend most of my days on mountain time. Vacations are about 2 time zones west of that. But right now I have a job, so I'm stuck back here on Boston time.

Earlier this year, I traveled to Germany, and for about the first two weeks after I returned home the jetlag forced me into the most rigid 8-hour sleep cycle I think I've ever been on. I would become completely exhausted right at midnight and would wake up refreshed at 8am. I just wished I could have had something to wake up for.

I oughta start doing this. During the semester I've slept with luck 6 hours, though most of the time its closer to 4.
in days like today with no classes, I slept about 8 hours, from 5am to 1pm. that's usually my vacation schedule. parents don't approve.

Not really sure about this one. Maybe it's lack of sleep, being on third shift I get about 6 hours a night if that.

Huh, there you go.

Last week I self-diagnosed myself with Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder (no matter what time I go to bed, there's always about 2-4 hours of tossing and turning (mainly turning) and I usually hit sleep somewhere past 4am), so to fix this I've been going to bed an hour later each night, and I'm hoping to have looped back to a healthy sleep schedule in a week or two. We'll see where this goes. Either I'll be normal, or my clock won't stop flashing 'cinammon'.

Thanks to full-time work, I spend most of my time right here... but back in Uni, I was generally around India, give or take...

And yes, I've done the drift-west-around-the-whole-world-in-a-week thing (like this, but less planned) on a couple of occasions... it always throws my internal calendar way off.

Awesome comic, but what are the mods gonna do with the new dupe deletion policy when it was a simul-post?

My sleep schedule is weird. It just seems to get later from midnight until I start sleeping at 4-5 AM. To fix my internal clock, I just stay awake the whole night. That way, I'm dead tired the next day, and fall asleep much earlier.

On another note, I used to have a shirt that said
t-shirt wrote:I NOT LATE
I STAY ON HAWAIIAN TIME
It was fun to wear. Sadly, I got too big for it, so now my younger brother has it.

This one was 4 seconds earlier. You can set it to show the seconds too, go to the other thread to find out how.

But originally the title of this thread was

"" Discussion Thread

which is a problem.

In the first few weeks post-graduation, I was going to bed at 0400 and getting up at 1200. Then I realized I was being really irritable because of it and I started going to be at 0100 and getting up at 0900. I'm a lot more mellow now.

Since that thread will be deleted soon enough, for postierity:

sje46 wrote:Is there a way I can check the exact time of the threads, within seconds? I don't know how to.

If you go into the User Control Panel, and go to Board Preferences, near the bottom there's a "Date Format" field... change that to include a seconds value. There's a link to the syntax there, it explains what fields are available. Personally, I use "D d M, Y G:i:s".

Failing that, you can just look at the thread ids in the address bar... a smaller number after t= means the thread is earlier.

Four seconds. That was close. It's only a matter of time until two post will be posted at the same time. Can we get Plank Time resolution please?

As for the comic, hysterical as usual. Good job again. I'm only somewhere off the west coast. Maybe Alaska.

This comic will be me in over 36 hours. For one day only, I'm being put on the night shift (isn't so bad. I used to work a night shift job until my grades fell like a rock), after being daylight for a year.

So, tonight I'm staying up all night (after being up since 4am), sleeping in all day tomorrow (going to sleep at 9am, waking whenever), working all night tomorrow night, and staying up all day Saturday so that I can "reboot" Saturday night (sleep at a normal time and force myself awake Sunday morning for work). That'd probably put me in Asia for this weekend.

God damn, I feel tired just writing that. Time to pour another cup of coffee, crank up some Dragonforce (current artist I'm pimping), and start hacking some C++*.

*
Spoiler:
Actually, I might not do that. I just passed up an uber-epic job (doing something every nerd loves): writing C code on a Unix (yes, Unix) system (it hurts just to think it) for an internship-to-hire job. I only passed it up because the job info I was given only listed that it was 90 miles away from where I live, and involved writing "embedded apps" (you could tell it was written by HR). I don't consider myself good enough to write embedded apps to begin with, and a 90 mile commute made it a definate no. Then, I get a call from someone who took the internship, and found that wonderful news out. I wish I would've known that before. I'll be kicking myself for quite a while...

Well, I can always hack some Python...

Ha, this is my life! I recently switched to second shift to work with people in Hong Kong, so everyone refers to me as the Hong Kong branch - even though I'm in Ohio. ;)

The schedule isn't bad - it's kind of like summer when I was in college. Stay up late, sleep late, caffeinate heavily in order to function. I just skip the sex and drugs part. ><
