Control group, to demonstrate the background response level. Though, some form of hermaphrodite would probably be better.

Well, yes, a control group is a group of experimental subjects that you don't do anything with.

Experimentation meaning finding out whether or not she prefers women, obviously the independent variable is gender so it would take several of both.

Or a group that is otherwise normal (ie doing a study on the autistic brain with MRI, your control would be a "normal" group of people)

And also the captionthingy says "low sigma" which is a phrase never used when discussing error in psychology or sociology, although it means the same thing.
Just because it is not physics doesn't mean it is not science.

I'm worried if they do any quality checks on the subjects interaction.

I really liked today's comic. A nice, simple joke that should, I think, give this forum plenty to talk about.

At least she's not talking about getting enough data to do a meta-analysis.

I like to do this when buying birthday cakes. How can I determine how good this cake is without comparing it to several different control cakes? And to ensure that none of the sample slices are outliers, I have to have multiple slices from multiple cakes of each type. The experiment usually comes to a halt when I get sick though.

Actually...
given homosexuality is the experiment... heterosexual intercourse events would represent the control.
Hence, dudes being the control.

(4 years of studying psychology finally pays off, now I can drop out)

nowfocus wrote:I wonder if she checked if her residuals were normal...

Pffft... violations to the assumption of heteroscedasticity is unlikely to cause significant issues for something where no proper statistical analyses were run.
This was likely a large sample t-test, comparing satisfaction from sex scores between the heterosexual sex and homosexual sex groups.
Her paradigm is a tad simplistic, but acceptable.

There are no sufficient words, in any language natural or constructed, to fully convey the sheer scope of the awesomeness of this comic.

Yeah. You say that now, but then we'll have 30 pages of people bickering over California's Proposition 8.

EDIT: And I'm perfectly fine with being the person who plants the seeds of forum dissent by mentioning it.

My thoughts exactly...I mean, c'mon, this is harder to blind than an acupuncture study*. That is, unless dildo technology has advanced far beyond my own knowledge of the field...

*Not just a study which seeks to find if the specific points are important, but a study which looks at whether putting needles anywhere has any effect.
