Title-text: 'How could you possibly think typing 'import skynet' was a good idea?'

Link: http://xkcd.com/521/

Wait, I wanna know what happens in panel 2937!

edit: now my comment's not funny either way

Try the Printifier for xkcd. You can now scale the comic between 50 and 150%.

I find these very useful: Common Errors in English Usage (web site) and Eats, Shoots & Leaves (book). You may, too.

Now for extra credit, prove that the 4th column will never contain a piece of the comic.

There is so much in this comic that I wish to know...there is no way I can infer something awesome enough to do it justice.

I like the Fallout reference with the Skynet.
That was Fallout, yes?

Merry Christmas, XKCDers! And to all, a good surf!

I think the joke is that 27 isn't prime, and everything is messing up because they cut down Yggdrasil.

Anyway, you can read the third column downwards for a slightly different story.

Edit:

Because they'll always be multiples of two. Duh.

Heh, you just missed the forest and hit the tree head-on. Skynet is the omniscient AI behind the robot revolution in the backstory (or forestory, as it takes place in the future) of the Terminator films. Fallout was homaging the movies.

Great comic, of course.

Ha! I love this sort of thing! But then again, it's just like all comics really, fill in the action between the panels :)

Great work!

Since the statement that only prime numbered panels are filled is demonstrably false you can't actually prove that.

I think it would have been funny with the same number of rows, but with the last one completely empty.

Let the first 4 columns be a, b, c, and d

You add a multiple of 4 to each column for each row. So, a+4, b+4, c+4, d+4, a+8, b+8 et cetera

Column D starts at panel 4. Adding multiples of 4 to 4 will always be a multiple of 4, and thus not prime.

I'm sure there's a better way to phrase this and make it more rigorous, but it's late.

The comic has been fixed! It now does not have 27 as a prime number.

But importing Skynet seemed like a good idea at the time...

EDIT:
Randall's temporal magickry seems to have corrected the issue with the last line.
And on the fourth column, any panel's number would be divisible by four.

Seems as though it's fixed. Panel 27 has been moved to 29, and the Merry Christmas message has been put into panel 31.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the alt-tag/final punchline would be funnier if it used:

Code: Select all

from __future__ import skynet

This is something that Python actually does (importing new language features as if they were modules from a library called "__future__")...

But that's just my opinion.

The best part, I found, might have been the raptors with lightsabers, and that they would hunt the cyborgs.

And yes, merry holidays to all to whatever you are celebrating. :)

hehe nice. I wonder how long it will be until someone fills in the rest of the panels. Also as someone who used to be quite the star wars nerd seeing the "snap hiss" to describe the light sabers brought back fond memories of the star wars books. I must have read a good 50 of them back in the day. Oh the memories....
