This is my first 'Get out of my head, Randall' moment. Just a couple days ago I was discussing this with some friends. I decided that seventh base involved kidney licking.

The Peaches reference made me squeal. It's true though. Like porn, I only listen to Peaches through headphones, and usually late at night by myself.

No freakin' way. I always thought when people said 'get out of my head Randall' they were kidding around. But just a minute ago I was thinking 'What the heck does first/second/third base actually mean? I mean I see people on TV talk about it, but no one ever mentions it in real life. Is it an American thing?' And then bam, I click XKCD and there's a very detailed answer.

Charts and such are far too unnecessary. Like most things in the world there is a simple formula for this that properly describes it: French, Fondle, Finger, Fuck. Sure there's plenty of space in between, but it adequately describes the general level of sexual involvement and it's simple to remember or teach to people who are lucky enough to know nothing of baseball.

If anything we can't go and upgrade oral sex. It's still in the same vague space, but if we do that then we'll have to update all sorts of other cultural references and such. Backwards compatibility is key here. A good third-base make-out means roughly the same thing it does now as when your grandparents were bragging about them in high school. Don't go changing it around and making me have to verbally footnote all of his stories for the kids.

what i was going to say:
can anyone explain how the "virginity" maginot line can cross the orgasm line?

but then i realised how socially inept it would make me sound. instead i'm going to say that this is deliberate altering of the "sex demographics on xkcd" poll. also, where on that diagram do you have to get to to bump up the poll.

Hmmm... The diagram is severely confused by the fact that the starting position (i.e. no sex/pre eye-contact) is the same point on the diagram as sex. Perhaps we could come up with some sort of clearer coordinate system here.

Polar Coordinates? Home can be (-Pi)/2 and sex is (3Pi)/2 unless it was rotated to make sense in polar, then it would just be 0 and 2Pi.

So the letter 'i' is still in base 3?

Also, no way I am handing my root password to my future wife, or anyone else for that matter. At most I would give her an user account and a Passphrase protected RSA key so that she can SSH into my machine. :x

Is it bad that I initially thought Peaches referred to the...adult actress (or conglomeration thereof) as opposed to the singer (who I didn't know existed until now)?

On a separate note, I tried to show what a big smarty I was to myself by translating the binary in my head. Unfortunately, I got a few off-by-one errors. Thus, I came up with "care 2".

How come "dry humping" is past the orgasm line? I thought dry humping was supposed to be, uhm.. dry. At least in my case, that means it would have to be quite a bit away from the orgasm line.

I must confess, this comic confused me intensely... Because the base system referenced by everyone I know runs as follows

1: Kiss
2: Manual
3: Oral
4: Sex

Home Run: Going straight to teh sexytime in one night. A euphemism for those who have a very successful pull at a party.
5th base: Optional terminology for fudge mining

Damn Randall for setting up different definitions...

I, too, would love to have a poster of this.

And... with the starting and ending point being the same base...

well.. yeah. It kinda works like that in baseball.

The starting point is the equivalent of being "up to bat" but once you hit the ball.. the purpose of home plate changes.

So in sticking with the baseball analogy... what would the dugout or "on deck" position be the equivalent to?

Hmm.. I guess it would just mean that there were more players on the field... ?

Not necessarily. Depending on the encoding Randall used in the comic, it could easily (well, maybe not easily...) be any of:

US-ASCII: base 2

And yes, I'm counting UTF-8 and US-ASCII separately. :D

For the old-timers game, that base is labeled:

1100 0010 1100 0001
1110 0010 1100 0101
0100 0000 1111 0010

Kudos to whomever can decode without reference to a table.

Spoiler:
Hint: printed result is similar, note large jump between 2nd and 3rd character

Lim as X -> 0 feet to the base = the further you have gotten.

At some point you've gone to far for the other to be comfortable so you end up looking for someone else. therefore recursive.

The proper application of force at the proper angles, even through several layers of fabric, can be quite stimulating.

Also, I think "dry" means there's no mixing of fluids, not that there aren't any excretions from either partner.

Erm...maybe, it would make sense as in the graphic the effectiveness of his forces decreases as the chart is read (approximately) clockwise.
