The whole Android boyfriend idea really gives new meaning to the word hardware...

Pandora managed it just fine.

And just so that I don't get a dozen people correcting me, it was a jar in the original Greek. It wasn't until the renaissance that it was changed to "box".

Comic 404 contained about as much art as a lot of other comics and a lot more humor than that one about the girl sleeping.

Wow, now we're name-calling about whether #404 is a comic?

I guess this would be a bad time to bring up Pluto...

I read that just before xkcd. I have my webcomics in a toolbar on firefox and read them in the same order every day.

Yep. Sorry, Randall, QC is still number one on expanding my list of 'things I probably didn't want to know'. XKCD takes the cake for expanding my geek vocabulary, though.

Box, jar, what ever. In the future everything will be sealed in those blister packs that no one can open anyway. So doesn't really matter if men and/or women become obsolete. Nothing will be opened by anyone ever! All that will be left: sex bots hermetically sealed for eternity.

Randall, you need to stop making comics with titles like "Porn" and subjects like these. You're attracting more porn advertising to the comic threads forum.

Has anyone read the short story The Little Worker by Paul Di Filippo? This is seriously giving me story flashbacks to parts of the story.

So, noone's considered the girl was Expecting this, and was using it as a way to maneuver the robot-girl away from the guy so she could have a crack at him?

You would be surprised what vibrators can do these days. I saw one defy gravity for a few moments and the one beside it make comments.

Erm. I just discovered that women need men only for the "continuation of the species" thing. And they can do it with artificial fertilization.

...We really are useless, as a gender.

I'd like to see a society run by women
just to see if they really can do what they say they can

Oh noez, who will run the world without men???
Women only know how to do hairstyles and coordinate the duvets with the drapes!!!

A female-only society would be pretty much the same as what we've got now.
Mostly a big mess, like always. (Only, sans misogyny and with time off for menstrual cramps.)

No misogyny, but I expect there'd be serious misandry, unless this all-female society is so completely isolated from the rest of the world as to make men a mere myth. Foreign relations would certainly be interesting were such a society to exist.

All I could think is that box scores more in Scrabble (by itself).
This story arc is a little messed up - just a little.

What is it you think they haven't already demonstrated they can do? A few absolute top military jobs, maybe. I'm not sure if any women have made it to the top of the Israeli military yet. Heads of state, politicians, civil servants, doctors, scientists...women do those all the time. Why would it be different if more of their colleagues and underlings were fellow women?

The fact is I don't think it would be any different. I'm just challenging those headstrong females who boast that if the world were run by women then there would be no war or suffering...

Yes, and comic 409 is a double-comic to make up for it. http://xkcd.com/409/

Unless you have actually gone through all 600 comics (599 pages), don't automatically assume that there is only one comic per page.

So can we please stop having this "404 is not a comic" discussion every time we hit a "comic number" ending in "00"?

Actually, I have been through, and read, every single comic. And I use as my standard XKCD itself. If one were to start at the beginning, comic one, and go all the way through to this comic, they would see exactly 599 different pages, each with a single comic. I argue that the double comic does not count as two because it is a single large PNG file, and is all on the same topic.
