You should talk to the girl down the hall; I think you'd like her. Lemme know if you find out why she's ordering all those colored plastic balls.

yeah right!

Hehe, I think about this kind of thing all the time.

When I'm not thinking about Batman, Star Trek, or other similar things.

So this type of thing won't stop when I hit 30 then? I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not...

I still live with my parents... I wonder if I would be able to handle a lease. Not that i was thinking about it before reading the comic. Randall has actually kept out of my head as I asked. (Though I have been thinking of related things, such as having just passed the point where I'm half of my dad's age...)

Not an especially funny comic, even with the self-referential coloured balls part.

Hi glasnt! I'm pleased to say I could fill my room with balls and eat for a few years even if I stopped working.

Randall, (kind of) get out of my head! Right when I read this comic i was just finishing my best jenga building ever. (It had diagonal supports, balanced loads, as tall as me). Then it collasped because of how hard I was laughing after I read the alt text. I could totally see that being me in a few years.

I liked this one a lot - the alt text made me smile :)

What is growing up, really? I spend my workday making console games - it really feels a lot less work-like than what I used to do in school.

As I've been in the middle of trying to rent my first apartment for a few days now, I feel I must request that Randall remove himself from inside my skull.

Also nothing wrong with Lego. Except it's too damn expensive.

That's a tough one. You realize that when your dad was your age, he was a responsible adult, living with a wife and a kid...

Lucky for me, my dad had me at 45. Still several years to go.

Slight tangent - a friend of mine was wondering how you'd translate "I don't know what you just said because I was thinking about Batman" into Latin. Anyone know?

I'm not sure what the alt-text is referencing, mostly because it depend on what type of balls she's getting. Is she making a ball pit?

THIS. I own a small business and have a 1400 SF warehouse. I've had to resist the urge to install a rope swing in the middle and jump off the loft. I'd probably have done it if I'd had a big enough ladder when I first moved in. Now there are too many racks and things in the way.

If I had the 220v power to handle it, I'd have bought a used electric forklift by now. Not that I really have that many pallets to store, but it'd be fun to lift heavy stuff and move it around.

Ooh, I think I'm going to have to try machining some legos out of brass on the CNC milling machine.

I'm not completely sure, but it should be something like

Nescio quid dixisti quod putabo de Batman

now to translate batman...

well bat is vespertilio and man is vir or homo so some combination of the two will work

As I get ready to leave for college, I often have the same feeling. Which doesn't make sense, because that just means I'll be taking control of myself more fully.

pff, who needs to pay attention to the responsible adults when you could be thinking about much more important things, such as how long it will take you to save enough money for that life-size lego death star.

This is SO my life. I am who I was in Kindergarten, plus skills, knowledge, and a body that somehow grew. It's still a mystery to me.

Then again, I tend to assume that everybody is exactly where they want to be, doing what they want to be doing, and wanting to do a good job of it, from the Taco Bell cashier who has to ask me if I want a drink or else has to get me a free drink, to the webcartoonist whose hobby survives by ad revenue for man-thing extenders.

When I get out there into the big wide world, I hope it's ready. On the growing-up topic, I just sat UMAT today (kinda like an aptitude test in Australia compulsory for getting into medicine or dentistry. ie THE MOST IMPORTANT TEST IN MY LIFE (seriously, when getting into medicine or dentistry, school results and exams count for 50%, UMAT, a single 150-minute test, counts for 50%)). it scares me to think i'll be applying for uni within weeks.

noo childhood! dont leave me!!!

Man I miss Lego, it made me want to be an architect.

Also, I very much did not like the crushing sense of responsibility when I signed my lease. That was a 'goodbye childhood' moment for me.

This comic seems to indicate a belief that growth means the sacrifice of that which is not grown-up...In other words, it isn't enough to gain new tastes as you age; you have to lose old ones, too. Playing with blocks is for kids; to grow up, you have to stop (never mind architects and engineers). Thinking about imaginary characters is for undeveloped minds (forget about novelists, filmmakers, and writers of webcomics).

I think the comic referenced in the title-text just did the same thing better.

actually, having recently graduated uni, and recently acquired my first "real" job, and now searching for my own lease... I must say growing up is over-rated.

I used to think "man, when I grow up... I'll have to __insert scary parent action here___" turns out that other than 8 hours taken out of my day I still get to do just about anything I want to, without having to call if I'm going to be late, or having to worry about turning in a project on time, or homework or tests or presentations; anything that needs to get done at work gets done *at* work, not anywhere else like that petty homework of old.

I see two different reactions, apparently based on the level of intellect. The standard "jock" from high school *wants* to grow up so he can be "independent" and whatever, and will usually end in a low-wage job and never get to be independent. The "geek" (i.e. most of us reading this) don't care to grow up fearing whatever responsibility comes our way, however once we reach "adulthood" we realize it wasn't that bad, in fact, we might already be in it and not realize that we've reached (or have been "faking it"), it didn't have to be this scary thing that our parents warned us about when trying to get us off the computer (how many have heard the "stop playing that game, when you grow up playing games won't pay the bills")

anyway, get out of my head! I'm full of ideas whether to decorate the new apartment starwars or mario or zelda... gotta double check what the lease will allow...
