This looks like the earliest thread to me. Anyway, I don't get it. I really, really don't get this.

*Wikipedias Little Prince* Oh. Well, that makes more sense now, I guess. Meh.

Oh, I guess I'm in the minority here then. I got the Little Prince reference, so the title text was just pounding it in.

The Boy in the Barrel always reminded me of the Little Prince.

I think I recall the book cover (as seen on the wiki page), but I can't for the life of me remember anything about it.

Awww ... I haven't read Le Petit Prince in such a long time. All I can remember is adults asking the narrator why he's drawn a picture of a hat. (It's actually a snake that has eaten an elephant whole, but from the side it looks like a hat.)

Well, that'll cut short all that philosophy and tedious negotiation with the snake.

I read The Little Prince a long time ago, but I don't remember anything about it except, for some reason, not liking it. At the very least, though, I was aware that this comic was a reference to The Little Prince...

HAHAHAHAHAHA FINALLY!
I had to read "Le Petit Prince" in french (obviously) and I absolutely hated it. I suppose it is a bit harsh to wish him blown to smithereens, but at least the asteroid won't hit Earth.. right? Right.

Edit: Sorry if you're offended by this, but I'd have to say my french teacher is to blame.

Wait. The Prince is wearing clothes, does that imply everyone in the xkcd world runs around naked? I mean, it has always been questionable before, but this would seem to confirm it...

If you're going to mix pop culture references as a recipe for instant humor, it might be funnier to have Pikachu sharing bong hits with Astro Boy. I'm just saying.

If you haven't read "The Little Prince" yet, you should do it now. And probably every now and then in the future. Or daily.

BTW Why not hiperjump the asteroid through the planet?

Thank you for pointing this out. The moment I read the alt-txt I decided people need a refresher on their asteroid disaster movies. In Deep Impact, President Morgan Freeman decides to send a select group of Americans underground to try to survive the E.L.E. In Armageddon, Oil Driller Bruce Willis and his team are sent to drill and nuke the asteroid.

The final panel doesn't need a tree. The only thing missing is Aerosmith.

I think a quick thermonuclear death would be preferable to what the little prince goes through in the book.

The following may spoil it for those who didn't read:
Spoiler:
The Little prince basically discovers that the universe is full of fools, his planet doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, and that the only thing he loved is a liar and a fraud.
Then he gets bit by a snake and dies.
