I really wish I could be as awesome as that sysadmin.

This reminds me of "When sysadmins ruled the world", a short story in Overclocked by Cory Doctorow.

That made an already awesome comic even better.

1.- Long time reader, never felt the urge to register. But now, seeing a "1 post" OP wining the race to the Discussion topic... it just amazed me enough to feel that urge. DivineJustice: I officially hate you.

2.- God bless sysadmins. I wonder if they can simply walk into Mordor in order to keep their uptime.

EDIT:
Is there a "Presentations" board or something? I must finish what I started. Oh wait- what DivineJustice started.
Don't bother, I found it.

my only thought was the Die Hard reference, and the fact that yesterday was Alan Rickman's 64th birthday (who of course, was the villain in Die Hard)

haha i really liked this comic. My initial thoughts were of Die Hard too...maybe a more computer savy John McClane?

Okay, I give up, Im too tired to do it...I did my research but couldn't find any good Die Hard quote to satirize.

Also, until this "research" I hadn't realized Alan Rickman was the villain...In my defense, Die Hard came out two years before I did.

Please, someone do what I failed to do...John McLane MUST be geekified for the sake of humanity...-

P.s: I'm starting to think John would tie against Bruce Schneier.

Bruce Schneier Walker Texas Ranger'd into Mordor, my dear westrim. He is also SYSADMIN OF THE WORLD.

As a nix sysadmin, i'd sit here and soak it up, except i have a new backup strategy to test (yeah some of us actually do that.)

Also some work on my baby, a linux iscsi san. Complete with automatic remote initiator configuration, you just throw it a hostname. (scp. ssh and some shell scripts).

I must admit i was impressed yesterday when one of my colleagues responded to a a nagios warning in under a minute. At 8:30 am, on a sunday, when they weren't rostered on or on call. (my second thought was, wow your making me look bad here.)

This comic is why I don't want to be a sysadmin, because I've seen them and they actually get like this.

The weird sense of duty really good sysadmins have can border on sociopathic, but it's nice to know that it stands between the forces of darkness and your cat blog's servers.

I was all ready to be a grammar nazi and insist that it should be "cat's blog" rather than "cat blog's" then I realized that it was a blog about a cat. I'm a little concerned that my first thought was to a cat writing a blog so popular, it was load balanced.
But it raining and me peeing on your foot are NOT mutually exclusive.

But it could always be hosted with a distributed cloud based blogging service, like blogger or wordpress.com. They host maybe millions of blogs of a large cluster of servers. Expect redundancy.

This is one of the comics that I got the feeling that I've watched the whole thing since the beginning, through it all an awesome soundtrack playing in the background and just now getting to the drop.

My first thought when reading this was not of Die Hard, but rather /b/. Just yesterday, /b/ reached its 200 millionth post, reeling in a shitstorm of retards posting stupid things trying to be the 200 millionth poster. The sysadmin basically walked through fire to keep the site running during that flood of dumb. Is Randall a 4channer, or am I just stupid?

(no one said "get out of my head Randall!" yet. Weird.)

My father is a system administrator. As such, I have been carefully groomed from birth to follow in his shoes and keep the uptime should he fall in the line of duty.
