This is the opposite of a plan a friend and I had a few years back. First, we put out a typical romantic comedy, except that during the end scene (a wedding) the movie would end with a zoom in (with ominous violins) to something/someone innocuous. Then, put out a sequel that's a horror movie following from the wedding, same cast, with the object of the zoom in being the cause of all the horror.

What if House had to solve a zombie outbreak? I think that'd make a pretty hysterical/awesome Movie for the House TV show.

This comment made me laugh more than the comic. I guess it's not my day.

I agree. In how many states could it have taken place? I think the reason why the major Zombie Outbreaks have occurred is that they formed in a state that does not allow firearms in some way. If everyone had one within 2 minutes or less, it wouldn't be hard to prevent something like that from happening.

But won't the romantic comedy also require a large number of improbable coincidences, contrivances, stock gags and convenient misunderstandings to pad things out to 90 minutes?

Or maybe they are just common characters. I'm guessing this girl who looks exactly like Megan is actually Megan acting in the movie, as Laura.

Megans hair is longer, I think. This could well be a new character called Laura.

Or Megan got a haircut for the role?

They're stick figures! The fact that they look the same doesn't imply they're the same person!

Either way, I'd watch it! :D

This is, in fact, what Splice *should* have been ...

just saw the trailer ... it's coming out this summer ... starring Adrien Brody & Sarah Polley (?! She's awesome, so maybe this is better than the trailer makes it out to be?)

What I got from the trailer : there's eeeeeeeevil gene splicing afoot all over the place ... and the crew of Brody & Polley have *crossed* *the* *line* ... and they splice up something not entirely human ... which starts out as a baby-sized blob of flesh and grows quickly into an almost human looking humanoid with a scorpion-like tail ...

... perhaps what they should do is blow it away while it's still a helpless blob, then go on a date to see Iron Man 2 or something ...

Not the funniest comic ever but it's mocking one of my favourite movie genres, and of all the names Randall could have used, he used mine. Awesome.

That was my reaction, too. I mean, in a normal zombie scenario, the town is overrun, and people are killed, and so there's an implicit social pact among the survivors that killing zombies is entirely acceptable. But in this case, a person was exposed to a toxin, the staff lost control over him, and killed him. There's nothing apart from their testimony to establish that this person really was a bloodthirsty, brain-eating zombie who, if he managed to escape, would cause a major outbreak...

Let's not forget this first scene:

They could always infect the corpse with the toxin, let it change the coroner, and then there would be evidence....

This strip reminds me of the beginning of the Steven Segal movie Executive Decision.

Awesome movie. Steven Segal gets killed 30 minutes into the movie and never comes back. And yet he's on all the movie posters.

I got a Shaun of The Dead vibe from this comic, which can only be a good thing. They need to have a scene where they think a zombie is just someone really drunk.

The proposed movie would be entirely different if set in a country with strict gun laws.

"I'm gonna get my... OH SHIT We're not in the US! But wait! There's a baseball bat over there! Who wants the honors?"

"No you. It's your bat."

By any standard by which this joke is taken from SMBC, that joke was taken from the very premise of Shaun of the Dead.

It's a commonly used term for the origin of new diseases or disease outbreaks.

Yes, that's the question: why is this unusual way commonly used in this context?

You are over-thinking it. Patient Zero is basically the "mother" of the disease. It's the first person infected, from which all other infections spring.

Think something like Typhoid Mary.

For every new disease that enters into a (relatively) closed system (spacial or special), there must be a person who was not infected by any other people inside the closed system.

Yes. Especially if it goes to trial. And if he/she/both fall in love with one of the health and safety officials. Preferably a corrupt one who wants to use the research for his/her own ends, and dies a hilariously horrible yet completely fitting death, or at least ends up utterly humiliated and ruined.

Laura is actually a lawyer and can defend herself but he didn't care about Ryan. Ryan gets avalanched by incident reports and asks Laura to help him. Laura keeps ignoring her.
