0777: "Pore Strips"

"I'm sure they're a harmful tool of the cosmetics-industrial complex and all, but my goodness do those strips ever work to pull gunk out of your pores. I was shocked, disgusted, and vaguely fascinated by the result."

I sure wouldn't use these to rid myself of my acne... I prefer the cream solution.

I prefer just a bar of soap. Its always worked for me. The pore strips just never seems practical for me. I mean you get a small area clean, but at what cost! Great amounts of pain for so little.

a vague understanding of sebaceous glands will tell you that these strips cure nothing and if anything could make the acne (blackheads) worse

Agree it's not worth the risk of ripping your skull out of your head just to clear out some pores.

I guess it depends how dirty your pores are. What if the alternatives really can't do the trick?

I didn't know this stuff was even supposed to treat acne. How is the application of what is essentially facial duct tape supposed to help with such a condition?

So how long have three of the quick links been different, and I just hadn't noticed yet?

kinda love those things, it's like gouging all my blackheads at once. But I never have enough patience to let them dry all the way... Maybe that's a good thing.

I can only assume the subject in the strip suffered that result because he had a dirty mind.

I don't have much to say about the comic but when I saw the title, I saw it as "porn strips" at first.

Also, how long have the quick links been different?

I was always convinced that that scene from Hamlet, was proof that Hamlet was completely insane and most of the people just played along or ignored him until he finally murdered everyone. I mean, the gravedigger couldn't possibly know whose skull it was; it was in a pile of bones, not exactly in a marked grave or anything.

The play is more fun when you imagine it all being in Hamlet's crazy head.

these aren't for pimples - they for really deep blackheads [the kind of thing high-end spas charge you $100+ to "fix"]

that said - i've tried 'em, and i've NEVER had anything happen. left one on over night, once, thinking it was *me*, being impatient - but, nope, just didn't work

which is STILL better than what happened to poor mr scull head!

Well, he would have been the one to bury Yorick, so it could be conceivable that he would know. Haven't you ever encountered a professional-type situation in which you knew things that were not documented in any way? Take for instance, poor programming. The programmer knows what is going on, and why it works, but anyone else who looks at it would be confused as hell and unable to modify it at all.

This is unusually gross for an xkcd, but I thought it was funny. I'm now wondering about the skeletal structure in the rest of the stick figure.

The Mark Twain bit, via Hal Holbrook, the dentist who failing to extract a tooth went home and devised an instrument so effective that when he saw the patient after the lunch hour, it extracted the man's entire skeleton (beat); his wife had to take him home in a pillow case. I've been categorizing it as castration humor. Haven't discovered pore strips, saw her sister, Aunt Sara, squeezing shocking strings of crud out of my grandmother's, my bubby's epidermis with no fuss, in 1953, and adopted that method

For those wondering about the skeletal structure of Randall's stick-figures, it's already canonical:

*sigh* Usual lurker, gotta pipe up.

Pore Strips don't *cure* acne. They don't claim to cure acne, they claim to remove dirt/build-up from your pores. Which they do. But you have to use them properly, and I know tons of people who don't. (Then again, most people don't have sensitive skin, so they don't have to read cosmetic and skin care products carefully ;) ) You need to know they are not a cure-all and they don't really work on traditional "whiteheads" (at least they don't for me - mostly they just make them worse).

I don't use them anywhere but my nose, but then again, I don't have to since that's my only problem area. And I rarely use them more than once every two weeks. They just help clear out the pores on my nose so the rest of my regimen can work effectively.

I used one once in college, well actually a few times, I effed it up the first time some how. They were a free sample in these student shwag bags we used to get every year. I don't think I ever bothered to purchase them though...black heads are all about the fun, after all. One strip takes care of all the fun for you in this case, where as two thumbnails provide hours of playdough-fun-factory-like entertainment.
