0851: "Na"

Postby rwald » Mon Jan 24, 2011 5:03 am UTC

Title Text: I hear that there are actual lyrics later on in Land of 1,000 Dances, but other than the occasional 'I said,' I've never listened long enough to hear any of them.

OK, is it just me, or is this missing one "Hey"?

It's not just you. I'm pretty sure it's three "hey"s.

Nope. Listen to it closely. It's a hey-ey, not a hey hey. I thought so too, then checked the song just to be sure.

Nope, I thought that too. Unless you just really hold that second one.

This comic I found to be hilarious, though at fist glance, I thought "Na" was supposed to mean "Sodium"

I'm disappointed by the lack of "Hey Jude" as one of the branches. :/

Yeah, but I think there should be twice as many "Na"s for the batman theme...

Actually, if I remember correctly, the second "hey" just is pronounced "he-ey," and it's not a third one.

edit: Oops, too slow.

The second "Hey" is sometimes two syllables.
Either way, it's supposed to be three beats, not two.

Eleven, to my knowledge (which comes from my girlfriend, who's a Beatles fan).

It's true though, Randall really dropped the ball on that one.

The branch would be off of the "Na" that Land of 1000 Dances loops on. He would have had to add another "Na" for the loop (so that you wouldn't have the choice to go the "Hey Jude" route instead of looping again).

Why just chart the number of "Na"s in Hey Jude, when you can chart the entire song?

I grew up calling that one "the na-na song". Also it has been, like, almost literally decades since I last heard it so my memory may be slightly inaccurate.

I believe that Katamari Damacy is also incorrect. As it stands Katamari Damacy is linked after 10 Nas' but at max I can only count 8. Can someone else please verify?

Gettin Jiggy With It was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this.

Also, a while back I once counted the number of na's in All The Small Things just because I was curious.

Thirdly, woo hoo, 100th post!

If every monosyllable is a "na": then the count is 10 with the tenth as "NaKatamari Damacy".
na-naaaa na-na-na na-na na-na naKatamari Damacy.

or if every monozyllable is a "la": then the count is 0.
monosyllables can be difficult to translate between divergent accents.

Also, he forgot the less-popular Kaiser Chiefs. Five Na's, and the branch would be another five.

The Memory Remains by Metallica has a bunch of na/da/la's (it varies) at the end. I counted 104.

As I was reading the main branch, the first "na" song that came to mind was indeed "Hey Jude," and when I reached the infinite loop, I got sad and scared...

Wow. Not even two pages and there's already been two Homestar Runner references.

I am also disappointed at the lack of Hey Jude, but as someone else pointed out, there's a ton of other songs with "Na" at some point.

In middle school, our music teacher made us count the number of "no"s in Nowhere Man ...
The winner got to pick an instrument to annoy the class with ...
I picked the xylophone ...
It wasn't as annoying as I had hoped.

There should've been a sodium joke, but I actually liked having only 3 songs mentioned. More than that just starts to fall flat.

I get ten nas for Katamari as well, but a _lot_ more for Batman.

(I originally came to complain about Katamari not having enough -I thought it was 14- but then I realized I was singing the song wrong.)
