No, but it hurts me by polarizing society, in that by reinforcing the validity of that hate speech in the eyes of the speaker, it makes it more likely that such speech will turn into action; whether this be at the voting booth or a chemical plant or the back end of a gun is irrelevant. Without such a protective bubble, the hate speaker would be exposed to adverse reactions which may temper his or her future actions, and perhaps even temper their ideas to begin with.
