I can't stop laughing.

Postby Gelsamel » Sun Oct 07, 2007 3:09 pm UTC

Stolen from Skeptics Guide to the Universe forums.

My favorite part is when they mention nuclear at the start.

My favorite part is when they mention nuclear at the start.

The male narrator's voice reminds me of Mitt Romney (well, until we see his face).

tl;dr version: Bunch of Christian wackjobs trying to pull one over on people who don't understand the law of conservation of energy, based on the "mystery" of magnetism.

Basically, but the best part is near the end where they talk about how you funding evil if you pay for electricity.

Well I can't find it on Wiki, so I bet it only exists with respect to this video and similar free energy BS, but does the Sundance generator exist and is it actually easily maintainable?

It was kind of funny at the beginning, what with the overunity motor powered by magnets. Bit tired, perhaps, but it still gets a chuckle. It got funnier when the narrator clearly had NO IDEA what he was talking about ("it generates 30 kilowatts per hour!"). Then, about 25 minutes or so into the video, I got very very angry. I can deal with wackjob free energy morons, because they're everywhere and generally just fade into obscurity when they're proven wrong. Using it as a smokescreen to convince people to join a wackjob fundamentalist Christian church dedicated to monopolising the power industry and turning the country into a theocracy is a whole new level of frustrating, though.

Hey, you guys weren't even supposed to see that! Didn't you hear the lovely lady asking you kindly to return the video to a Christian at the beginning?

But isn't it satisfying knowing they WILL fail? Better they waste their energy on something foolish than use the tried and true methods to spread their influence.

We could even help. Drop suggestively worded "expert opinions" which will totally be taken the wrong way by people like this.

I find this video extremely offensive to Christians. It kind of assumes they are morons who will believe anything they don't understand, and readily part with their money funding any scam that associates itself with Christianity. Sure, some of them are, and do, but the whole "let's make Christians our target market, cause they are dumb" strategy is really condescending.

NO. If it didn't have a reasonable hit rate, it wouldn't be their strategy. It should only be offensive to dumb Christians.

I've heard about this before. Not the video to christians, but the generator. They published the ads for their shows in tabloids, and though they did send invitations to senators, not one took them seriously.

Haha. The job of priests is to "keep the people obedient."
The last part isn't even funny though. It's just terrible. "homosexuality rehabilitation" "a godly alternative to abortion" "bring god back into schools"
Frankly, I'd rather fund the 'terrorists.' Particularly all those 'terrorists' who mine coal in the US, strike oil in Canada, build dams in my state, and run nuclear power plants. Yep, we have lots of 'terrorist' organizations who run nuclear power plants and "have religions that support killing christians."

But hey, if this is the only downside to net neutrality, I'm good with it.

Wow. "100 pounds of force".

Last time I checked, force was measured in Newtons, and pounds measured weight.

Also, magnets defy gravity, and in no way whatsoever have a greater force holding them up than is pulling them down.

Weight is just another name for a force caused by gravity. The important difference is mass and weight. Kilograms measure mass, pounds measure weight.

A pound does measure force. In the imperial system, slugs measure mass. However, given that most people quickly realized they had no need to know the mass if they knew how much something weighed, one pound-force became defined as a unity measure of the weight given by, you guessed it "one pound-mass" (shortened since to one pound, overloading the original definition).

One pound force equals about 4.4 newtons, and one pound mass equals about 450 grams (or, alternatively, .031 slugs).

Scientists defined the slug by the amount of mass that accelerates by 1 ft/s when under the influence of a 1 pound-force force. This definition has become obsolete (arguably like the rest of the imperial system!).
