Oprah pwned by /b/

Postby Alpha Omicron » Mon Sep 22, 2008 8:38 pm UTC

Oprah Winfrey made a big deal of a thoroughly retarded message board post by a /b/tard on air. I wonder if anyone explained things to her.
See YT for the clip.
Here is a link to a page which leverages aggregation of my tweetbook social blogomedia.

WOW. Some random anonymous guy makes a post on your message board and you just assume it's the reality? Sounds like Oprah really is as big of a dumbass as she made herself look. I have no sympathy.

Is there any info other than the clip? I'm curious about the message board itself, as well as why Oprah thought that an unverifiable anonymous source lends any credence to any sort of organized threat against children.

/b/ will grab onto this and never leave her show alone again. She's going to have to hire someone just to deal with them and make sure she doesn't give them any broadcast attention. Which means someone who regularly visits 4chan is going to be employed there. Which... could backfire with hilarious results, assuming she actually does hire someone to deal with them.

Also, wtf at using sources from message boards. Not very good journalism.

Yes, yes it does. Papers don't sell news; they sell papers. The same is true of far too many journalistic publications.

It said this: 'He doesn't forgive, he does not forget, his group has over 9000 penises and they're all raping children.' So, I want you to know that they're organized and they have systematic ways of hurting children and they use the internet to do it. For one, I despise OVER 9000!!!!! because I was on the brunt end of the initial spam of it. But Oprah...oh lawd. This will only end in tears, and hilarity. I may not go to /b/ anymore due to overwhelming degradation of the quality of posting, but this made me smile a little.

Okay, not the best choice of words. Better way of putting it is "significantly changed from older irreverant humor to thinking that real life internets is srs bzness." Of course we could simplify this by saying "Remember when /b/ was good? /b/ was Never good" and saying that I simply got bored with it, but the constant WE CAN DO SHIT TO PEOPLE NOW GAIS kind of bored me. Oh, and reposting the exact same threads over and over.

I have the same Myers-Briggs as Oprah...
True story...

Also, 9000 has always been one of my favorite memes, because I mainly saw it either before or after (I think after) the massive spam-wave it had. Hence, the DBZ remix made me almost faint with laughter. The Doctor Phil/Nappa comparison was pretty funny as well.

Well, it was 8000 when the manga was put out, but they apparently got roughly 1000 (unit of power level?) stronger between then and the release of the show.
