Buffalo man allegedly beheads wife

Postby oxoiron » Tue Feb 17, 2009 3:42 pm UTC

Story here.

The founder of a Buffalo Muslim TV station established to portray Muslims in a good light has been charged with murder after his wife was beheaded.

I'm not sure whether to laugh or say "what the fuck". I'll settle for "what the hah".

He has said that his wife was offended by a report she heard shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on the United States.

"She was seven months' pregnant," he told Reuters news Agency in 2004. "She didn't want her kids growing up in this environment."

No kidding, who does want kids growing up in this environment. People are nuts. I cant believe there are places in the world where this is actually a legit punishment for "apostasy, adultery, theft or drinking alcohol".

This story got me pretty sad when I read it this morning.

The book they cite, at least the portion of it they cite, is rather inaccurate when it comes to "justifications" for killing, especially in this manner. There wasn't any "justification" in any legal or moral code--those two paragraphs in the article are completely irrelevant.

I haven't seen any detail on the reasons or motives for this yet, only that he was arrested. I have seen a lot of presumptions made, however. KF

The saddest thing about this is if he is convicted he not only killed his wife, he killed her dreams of bridging the gap between the Muslim culture and the very Christian American culture.

Part of me hopes that as the trial progresses it shows the evidence to be mostly circumstantial or otherwise unconvincing. But it sounds like this one is a pretty fair "slam dunk" from how the article describes the situation.

I wish that I didn't already know about this before reading the thread, because then I could truthfully say that I saw 'buffalo man' in the title and thought wtf.

Does anyone find it amusing that many people think it is the right way to live, not like 'your rotten thin-skinned ill western ways'? And 'too much freedom' is bad, and 'fear of god' is required to keep order anywhere? Looks like someone totally missed that whole 'humanism' thing going on in last couple of centuries... :?

You're missing the worst part of it. It was his dream of dispelling stereotypes about Muslims. He had to know that killing his wife was also going to ruin everything he'd worked for at his TV station, and he did it anyway.

Further thoughts: It's not clear (despite the Star's reporting) that the killing had anything to do with religion. The BBC carries the same story, but without the insinuation.

And is it possible that things aren't as they appear? Buffalo police seem pretty sure he killed her, but after the Brazilian woman allegedly attacked by Swiss skinheads, I'm trying to be open to the possibility that someone's being made to look bad.

Unfortunately, due to actions by Muslim extremists in the Middle East any time a Muslim decapitates someone it will be seen as religious.

I assume anytime ANYONE decapitates someone its either religion, severe insanity, or they're French. Or, for bonus points, a combination of the 3.

And the people holding the default anti-Muslim assumption have nothing to do with it?

The French did go through a whole decapitation phase a few centuries back...

Actually, the French beheaded their last criminal in 1977, according to mental_floss and Wikipedia.
Just FYI, the guy isn't avatar isn't me. But he seems pretty cool.
