Help NASA name Node3 ... Serenity!

Postby Mchl » Fri Feb 20, 2009 5:23 pm UTC

Here you can vote for a name for a name for ISS's next module. When I saw that 'Serenity' is one of the options, I just had to register here to make sure it is chosen :P So BTW: hello everyone!

As of this post 'Serenity' has 89% of the vote. I think we're gonna win.

I think it just shows the absolute arrogance of these Serenity supporters that they intend to declare victory before even all the votes are in. It's a disservice to all that support the ISS Project and we Earthrise supporters intend to keep fighting until all the votes are counted.

No, really, I voted for Serenity.

Eh, we can still name something better when the time comes. For now, a life support module is pretty cool.

I'm still hoping for a Star Destroyer called "The Sexecutioner". How long do you think it'll be before we have Star Destroyers? Six months? Nine?

This reminds me of EVE, where 90% of the Ospreys/Basilisks you run into are named Serenity.

Sure, Serenity is winning now. But just wait for /b/ to get a hold of this and decide to name it Battletoads, or Barrel Role, or Desu, or something.

Serenity is 81% at the moment.

The closest contender is Earthrise with 7%.

Battletoads is nowhere to be seen. I'm slightly disappointed at that, even though I just voted serenity.

I saw that article on digg. I clicked the link fully in support of calling it Battletoads... Then I saw that Serenity was an option, and my browncoat heart had been swayed.

(Yes, I voted for Serenity)

Not 4-Chan but Digg

Digg likes to think it's 4chan sometimes. Kind of annoying, like when they tried to take full credit for rescuing Dusty, despite 4chan doing literally all the detective work and Digg providing completely unnecessary media coverage.

I wonder how much of this is due to Firefly fans and how much is due to all the other names sucking.

I love the part in the contest rules where NASA will only take the winning name as a suggestion and is not bound to use the winning name. Thus, even if /b/ or digg gets battletoad to the top of the list, NASA will probably just pick a different name.

But since Serenity is on their preapproved list, odds are if it wins they'll take the suggestion seriously. Given the really lousy selection of alternate names, I'm betting someone in the naming department also wants Serenity to win and rigged the contest. Out of the 4 they have, I would have voted Serenity even if I'd never seen Firefly (what a sad world that would be...)

Srsly, especially considering it's the only one that matches up with the names of the other nodes. They knew which one they wanted to win beforehand and just tossed in a bunch of filler options so they could use a "name a spaceship Oh me yarm!" poll for publicity.

Ugh, such a hard decision between Battletoads and Serenity, but I have a feeling they'd just not say Battletoads won and name it one of the suggested names anyways.

Yes, but that's only because big business hasn't figured out a way to make taking the sky away profitable enough to buy the U.S. Government into allowing them to do it.

And as such will be the most important module up there :P Anyway, with Cupola attached it will be the most scenic toilet in the world. I'm willing a bet, that this will be the most popular place aboard ISS among the astronauts during their free time (or when their code is compiling).

In other news: those ever hungry Star Trek fans seem to force the 'Enterprise' up the suggestion's list. They got the shuttle already! Should be enough!
