Real Robot cephalopod being built - we are all doomed

According to new scientist some CS and Biology majors have made a step up in the race for robot cephalopod dominance:

I want to post an inane comment, but am unsure whether to welcome our new robotic, our new cephalopod or our new biologist overlords?

Seems really useful insofar as space construction. As long as we don't let an AI get ahold of them, or a malicious human with an AI, we should be good.

Am I the only one looking forward to my new Dr. Octopus arms?

The controll programming will be a real nightmare though. Regular robot arms have fixed lengths and clearly defined planes of rotation but this will require something that can adapt to new shapes on the fly.

This reminds me of the things from the Matrix trilogy.

Cool!
Anything I said pre-2014 that you want to quote me on, just run it past me to check I still agree with myself.

Am I the only one whose first thought was "Oh, crap, now Cylons can swim?"

Or a person who's mind is uploaded onto the robot controlling this.

My first thought was, where are the suckers? Can it truly be a tentacle without suckers?

Perhaps they are the people who agreed to pay $10 million for this?
