Brian May to receive astrophysics PhD from Imperial College

[quote]Brian May, the multimillionaire guitarist who founded the rock group Queen, has finally completed the PhD in astrophysics that he abandoned more than 30 years ago...

May revealed his achievement when he received an honorary doctorate at Exeter University this week

After the ceremony he said: “I worked on my thesis at Imperial from 1971 to 1974 when I had to give it up because Queen became a full-time thing. I kept all my notes and I was able to find them in my loft and start working on them again.â€

And maybe colorful scarfs tied on your head will become requirements for people with Ph. Ds in Astrophysics, so you can tell who they are.

This should be in the something on Slashdot [slashdot.org] thread.

The comments in the slashdot article are rather interesting.

"Honorary"

Doesn't that mean, "not real, we just want to be associated with the guy"?

yeah, a school gave him an honorary doctorate at about the same time he turned in his PhD thesis. So if it clears, it will be a real PhD, and he will also have an honorary one.

This is awesome. Pure awesome. So awesome I knew someone had to have posted this before me.

Really damn awesome.

Incidentally, has anyone else completely failed repeatedly to use the search function with any success.

It's due to people titling their threads with witty but roundabout things.

It's the price we pay for being

So.

Damn.

Funny.

Is it just me or are all these articles pulled directly from digg? Anyways Brian May is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. Incredibly humble, intelligent, and rocks out like no other.

AND he is endorsing Johnny Depp to play Freddie Mercury in the upcoming Queen movie! :D

Pff. This is such big news, it appeared in the International Herald Tribune. I kid you not. Who needs digg when major news sources already get how cool this is?

Funnily enough, I applied for Imperial College to do an astrophysics PhD. I'm gutted I didn't get in now - I could tell everybody I was doing the same qualification at the same university as the guitarist from Queen. Oh well.
