Songs With Gunshots

Postby ph33l_da_l0v3 » Mon Dec 08, 2008 9:53 am UTC

Hey all!

I'm trying to make a playlist of cool songs that use gunshots as a sound effect. Since there's a LOT of gunshots in rap and hip-hip I'm mainly looking for NON-RAP songs unless they're particularly good or use gunfire in a particularly interesting way.

So far I've only found two non hip hop songs that I'd wanna put on my list...

1. WWIII - KMFDM has a sicknasty intro involving gunfire
2. The Final Cut - Pink Floyd

some hip hop songs I like involving gunfire...

Church - T-pain
Heat - 50 Cent
and of course the marvelously overplayed Paper planes - M.I.A.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Obvious answer: Frontier Psychiatrist - the Avalanche.
not-so-obvious answer: Wild Wild West - Escape Club.

That's all there is and there ain't no more. (coming from me at least)

If larger guns count, try the 1812 Overture. You can't go wrong with music that has parts written for cannons.

There's a track called The Motorcade Sped On by a guy called Steinski, which I think has gunshots at the start.

Weird Al Yankovic's "Polkas on 45" (the medley on In 3-D) has a gunshot in its version of Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe."

I was gonna say that. He probably has a couple others.

"I Fought the Law" (the original and best version) simulates six shots with the drum, but I dunno if that counts. "Another One Bites the Dust" also simulates gunshots.

The 1812 Overture has cannons. Depends on whether you consider cannons guns.

I'm sure I know of others, but I never really notice until it happens.

And sorry about the hip-hip thing haha

Any songs with gunshots in the metal/industrial genres would be amazing!

"A.C. LeRok/Bitches Get Stitches" by Reggie and the Full Effect, even though the gunshots are in the skit at the beginning of the song, it's all together on one track.
I'm pretty sure most of Al's polka's have gunshots in them. Or, upon doing a bit of research, I might be wrong. I'm pretty sure there's one in "Alternative Polka" (the one I've listened to the most) and probably "Angry White Boy Polka." That's all I've got for now.
I have nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion.

'Warboys' from Queen + PR's new album, The Cosmos Rocks has gunshots in the background that add a nice touch.

I don't remember if Black Sabbath's 'War Pigs' use gunshots, but I always loved the way they use the sirens...

Man, Charlie - I've been wondering what your avatar was for the longest time, and I've finally remembered - Screamadelica! Now I can rest in peace.

Anyway, how about the following:

Nas - Made You Look

And of course Eminem loves a good gunshot:

Eminem - When the Music Stops (end)
Eminem - Criminal
Eminem - Bitch Please II

My idiot coworkers played mainstream rap each and every day at work on Pandora and the songs with gunshots stuck out to me for some reason. Maybe it tapped into my stress :x . The Nas one is mine. I kept looking for a track with a lot of gunshots (or even something that wasn't hip hop) and couldn't find anything. Considering I only listen to about 5% hip hop this seems to indicate that the inclusion of gunshots in a recording is peculiar to hip hop.

Dang - all of a sudden I have this peculiar urge to remix the Sesame Street theme with gunshots and double bass.

Björk - "Innocence"

In fact, I'm pretty sure that the gunshot is the same sound effect that was used for the silenced PP7 in GoldenEye on the N64...

Bill Withers has a song ending with a gunshot. Wait one while I look it up..

(It ends "And I'm better off dead... <bang>")

It seems that's the title of the song: Better Off Dead. It's on Lovely Day (his greatest hits), which is a worthwhile addition to anybody's library.

There is a part of the "Nutcracker" ballet where the toy soldiers and the Nutcracker Prince fight off the Rat King and the army of rats (the beginning of Clara's dream), and a gun goes off.

I found this link through Google, but from a quick glance, most of the songs in that playlist were mentioned here.

There's a huge number of reggae songs that use gunshots. This is mainly due to the fact that people on Jamaica used to show their appreciation for a song by shooting their guns in the air. This practice was banned though, which led to the exclamation "boh!" to emulate a gunshot.

Anyway, one of the greatest modern reggae songs i can think of that has gunshots is Damian Marley's (yes, son of BM) "Welcome to Jamrock".

Might I suggest "Gunshots by Computer" by Saul Williams? It may be regarded as rap, but it has more in common with spoken word, and it's pretty good either way. The gunshots don't come in until the last twenty-five seconds of the song, but it sounds insane.

D12 - One Shot 2 Shot

One of the more comical wrappes about a club shoot-out. I'm pretty sure there's plenty of gun shots in that one.

This chick is clinging onto me sobbing and sighing
Saying she didn't mean to diss me earlier and she crying
But it's real and it's on and cats is getting killed
So I hugged her and used her body as a human shield
Away, you scullion! you rampallion! You fustilarian! I'll tickle your catastrophe.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Juno Reactor's many mixes of Pistolero. Every one uses a gunshot of some sort (though the Picture of Man remix uses the samples in the least noticable way).

I also made three songs with a gunshot (a .45, if I remember correctly) in it. They're all related, but they're all different.

Sniper
Sniper (Club Mix)
Death

All those should allow downloads directly from clicking them; if there's some trouble with that, just go here and they'll be in the list.

The videogame remix "Sounds of CS" (at least, that was the title of the MP3 I downloaded...) creates a rhythm entirely out of sound effects from Counter-Strike!

EDIT: There's a very similar one for COD4.

If this is still going on:

Stagger Lee, by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, wherein the gunshots are actually snare drum hits, but are described as gunshots by the lyrics.

I used to have a version of "Straight Outta Compton" that had a break in the middle for a fist fight that ended with a shotgun blast. That was cool.

Haha Felstaff, I had almost forgotten about that song. It sounds serious but it's actually pretty funny.

"Nigga, what about your wife?
Nigga, fuck my wife
I'm trying' to save my motherfuckin' life"

"Wait a minute, I think I just saw Bizarre
Nah, I guess not
What the fuck?
Oh my God, it was

If you're still looking for non - rap songs with gunshot sound effects, the song Disgustipated, by Tool, has one.

Songs about execution in a possibly dystopian future on a prison ship are bound to have gunshots. One pretty great rap song, by the way.
