So, I may be stepping out of line here, but I'd just like to say: Jebobek, take a turn already. You're pretty much running the thing since Martin W. disappeared, so I don't think anyone's going to object if you want to get on the list. Although, in four players' time pretty much anything can happen, so there's no guarantee that the fortress won't be a smoking hellhole by the time you get to it...

See the thing is that I don't want to get on the list. I'm actually having the most fun reading the stories and loading up the save file every "year" and just seeing the progress. I have never played a DF game past one year. I don't know how to build things and I don't know what half the symbols mean. As they* sometimes say: if you can't do someone's job, be their manager. That said, If you guys want to really see some messed up crap after AKAnotu then I'm board.

If thats the case: if anyone wants to mess around with their superproject one more time please let me know and I'll put you on the list. In a week from now I'll add my name. It will give buffer time between Awia and myself.

*No idea where i heard this.

Meh, my minisuperproject was the lavafall, and I snuck that one in under the wire. I'm done.

Sorry for vanishing everyone. I was busy with exams and Jebobek seemed to be doing a good job with the hosting. Then I sort of neglected to post for a bit.

If Jebobek wants me to I'll take up hosting again. But I'm fine with him taking over the hosting.

Yuri, is the problem with game lag?

MartinW, Do you mind taking up hosting again? What we've been doing is checking up on people after a week or so passes.

That is a thing with DF - as the number of dwarves, objects, and general complexity expands, so does the amount of time needed to get anything done. I mean, a starting fortress can sometimes get through two or three years in a few hours on my systems. About ten years in and it takes several hours to get through a season.

WHO the hell painted my trade depot PINK?

Okay, with Christmas break here I should be able to finish somewhat timelily. Timelyly? In a timely fashion.

Edit: So, I keep getting the message that dwarf fortress has encountered a problem and needs to close, at which point, of course, the program is ended and I lose any progress that I've made. Any ideas what could be going on? I downloaded a brand new vanilla df for the save, and I only changed the init options and the cat mouth (I've done this before on an existing save with no problem). I don't know if the sheer size of the fortress would cause this problem, but, as I'm getting an average of 15 FPS anyhow, I'm tempted to just pass on my turn if I can't make it stop.

Is it crashing at roughly the same spot? Like the game tries to do something (have an invasion, caravan arrive, something like that) and completely geeks out, or is it completely random?

No, half the time I have the game on pause at this point, looking around, designating things for dumping, reminding myself where everything is and that. Though for all I know there could be a goblin ambush sneaking around somewhere that I'm not seeing. It does seem to crash at about 5-7 days in.

Its probably better in the gaming fora simply because it gets bumped up alongside the Dwarf Fortress thread, so that other enthusiasts can catch it.

I haven't read the whole thread so I don't know how far into it you guys are, but it looks like you're running out of players. I'll get up to date before I decide if I want to step into this mess though.

We should do a bloodline that has a specific goal or a theme right from the start so that we have something to lose toward. Some of my favourites:
Viking challenge - Mainly above ground town built out of long houses made of wood. Stone "hills" to hold individual stone caskets. On the coast.

Above ground/Human town - Sort of like the Viking challenge but stone can be used on larger buildings and defences(towers/walls).

Bridge/tunnel challenge - Find a map that has fairly large land masses on both sides of the map separated by lots of water. Build either a bridge fortress over the water or a tunnel fortress under it or a glass fortress through it.

One tower - The whole fortress is in a tower that is ever growing. Bonus points for trying to make it look realistic by not having the higher levels jut out of the side of the tower too much.

Glacier/desert - No trees, no rocks, aquifer, and zombie polar bears!

I think a new game would be a good idea. This one has slowed to a crawl.

What about using the orc mod? That should make for a great military themed fortress. Especially if we make a no trap rule (except the odd cage trap for the arena).

Re: Bloodline Dwarf Fortress game

I do like no trap challenges, I just started a fortress in terrifying wilderness with no tools (brought anvil and metals to make them) but it hasn't progressed enough to tell if I'm going to get slaughtered by the zombie cougars across the river. I usually play no traps anyway.

But I've never done any mods. As far as I'm aware, if we were going to do a bloodline mod, we'd all need to ensure we made the same changes to the raws, or it wouldn't work. That could be a bit tricky to manage.

Not from my own experience, but from reading this thead, it is extremely important that everyone can pick up the game and go from there. So I would suggest that there would be no mods as well, but challenges set would be cool.

From a mostly outside perspective I'd like to see some closure on this bloodline, and by closure I mean screenshots of everything going to hell.

Awia, you at least have my personal thumbs-up for hammering down this game.

Hehehe, oh magma floods. I should have done that with my last fortress. I'm boring and abandoned it when the dining room booze stocks burned up.

I'd definitely say for future bloodlines screenshots and write ups are a must.

Yeah this next bloodline we should organize much better. MartinW did a good job organizing in such short notice though, but I'd say we learnt a lot. We should set up a wiki page for it and use that to post each save file and archive the adventures of each leader. That way, it seems to me, it'd be a lot easier to keep track of who's turn it is, what's happened, and what save to use. Maybe even a certain way to save your file, like the "fortress name-your username-year in game."

Okay, I downloaded the Ryslith's Orc mod and I like it. Now I'm getting crazy into checking out the mods available and trying out different stuff.

I'm still happy with a standard bloodline game, though. I still feel like I'm a novice at the game but I'm getting much better.

Ok, I guess I could start a bloodline. All I need is what we want at the depart location, a name for the fort/group, suggested equipment/skills, and how to zip/upload DF files.
