Haha that's something to look forward to, that and if I'm lucky unconsciousness. I hope I don't sound like a dick I guess I am plagued type? by insecurities. Sometimes I just want to be full of confidence and not be afraid of anything, like my other friends are. But whenever I am about to do something I always am thinking of the consequences.

I guess I have lived a sheltered life and have had being responsible drilled into me since I was a kid. (I'm 17) Sometimes it is a blessing sometimes it's a curse. Sometimes I just want to do something spontaneous and crazy and not freak out during it, but simply enjoy the fun and adrenaline of it. I guess I stress about everything and anything. I just want to say hell yeah situation x is going to be awesome! Not oh shit what if this and these bad things happen?

For instance I'm going to see Pearl Jam. I know it's going to be totally awesome but there's always something nagging at me saying it might not be. This is why, for obvious reasons, that I don't really enjoy most films of the drama genre. I just want to escape into a fantasy not stress about the problems of the other characters. But then again maybe I am strange. I've always considered that to be a possibility.

Not if the demon collects other beings souls. Sold your soul to the devil kinda thing.

Reminds me of when I got several people to sell their souls to me on a signed piece of paper. One was really insistent in wanting it back.

Mine is just with the conductor.

For example, the orchestra is supposed to be doing this huge performance on Tuesday to the governor and all of the superintendents of the state. It's not just us; it's the orchestra, the chorus, the dancers, the freaking sign-language class performing! It's some stupid tripe that seems as if it was only designed in order to use the wonderful power of music to suck up to your superiors. It violates pretty much everything that I believe music stands for.

Anyway, I'm part of the stagecrew for the school play and I had an all-day rehearsal on Friday. Because of the concert, we'd be forced to miss 3 classes on Monday and Tuesday and neither I nor my grade could take it. I told him on Friday that I thought that I couldn't handle everything and he tried to guilt trip me. "Oh, it's not just a measely rehearsal, it's a full-blown performance. It's for all of these really important people that you don't care about and the only reason for you being there is to make our music program seem cultured, dignified, and accepting."

I just can't feel as animated and excited for that class as I could and it's making me sad and guilty //_>

I enjoy the idea of utility. Simple things make you much more useful, and basic skills form a portable skillset that makes you useful.

Things like communication, rationality, and empathy are extremely basic and extremely portable mental skills.

This can apply to objects, as well. A multi-headed screwdriver and a blade/knife of some kind are very portable and utilitarian tools.

But we have an abundance of physical tools. From simple machines like levers and pulleys to electromechanical works of art like cars.

I used to enjoy the idea of keeping a fit body. After all, it's your most accessible tool, and not easily replaceable. However, with such an abundance of other tools that can do much better than the human body, should we really expend the effort to keep our bodies as useful as possible? Is there such a thing as 'good enough' from a physical fitness standpoint?

Do we really still need to work out and keep our bodies in peak physical shape still, with tools like cars and construction equipment and forklifts that can do it for us, regardless of our physical capacity?

I'd say this is well worth its own thread.

This reminds me of a thread (it was in N&A, I believe) discussing whether penmanship even ought to be taught in school any more. I was on the side of continuing to teach handwriting, and here I find myself again on the side of continuing to maintain our bodies even though they're not always the best tool for a job.

It depends on what you mean by "peak physical shape." Certainly we don't all have to be athletes. At the other end of the spectrum, I think we'd all agree that just because we have tools to make our lives easier does not mean that we should let our bodies go to pot. Keeping in shape is good for you as an end in itself, rather than as a means to a particular utilitarian end.

Make the thread, kriel!

Look, I don't have a clue what your band of merry men have been saying, but your welcome to go back through the log and come to your own conclusions. The lines of communication are poor. I think this serves to exacerbate an already sensitive subject. I assure you, the "live at five" podcasts cast great doubt as to the intent. I've never had a problem admitting when I made a mistake or was in the wrong. Basically, the leash law should be enforced inside and outside city limits. We certainly don't need a bunch of dogs exacerbating all over the place. Rikki Tikki Tavi makes a good joke, but counter productive. In George Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman the character Octavius is given the pet-name Ricki-Ticki-Tavy by Ann Whitefield.
THIS will be my last video. Mr. Tavy, this is for you! I too have great admiration for the life of Howard Hughes. If only we could contribute 1/10 of what he did.
