How often do people get away with crimes?

Postby gbagcn2 » Tue Aug 24, 2010 12:06 am UTC

Many people who commit crimes assume that they will get away with it so I am wondering how accurate that assumption is. I wonder what would happen if everyone who committed a crime always got caught. It might lead to more people going to jail but on the other hand if people knew they always would get caught some people might not commit crimes.

I think you need to be more specific. Are you talking about the US? A particular state? It should not be hard to find some unsolved crimes statistics or research made with prisoners in the interwebs.

People jaywalk all the time and never get cited for it, even with police standing right there. I personally break the speed limit all the time. I often am either keeping pace or just exceeding it by less than 10 units of measurement. People use drugs and will never be caught for it. I could walk over to my neighbor's lawn, rip some grass out of the ground and have him be none the wiser of my theft.

So what Meaty said. This question is so vague to be unanswerable. And really, you yourself probably broke five laws today and didn't even realize you did it. And most people aren't going to care. Cops and judges included.

Like they've said. Can't see the topic going further than that.
