I'm starting to get so attached to these Vibram FiveFingers that I'm starting to wear them more than my normal shoes.

My only obstacles so far have been the gas pedal in my car and ice-covered walkways.

No cracks, no people around to spike my coffee (though maybe there's a ninja, I would never know). The thing-in-the-water is fascinating. Do you remember if it's an unhealthy kind of fizzling, or just kind of weird?

I think it was mostly just weird, because it was added by the local water company, and if it had been harmful, there'd have been national outrage (including the obligatory Muslim-blaming and political ad-hominems, and probably a handful of crackpots going "zomg gobbarmint mind control in teh wottur", of course, but I digress). I don't remember the details, but I recall it was a minor national news item for a day or two.

Wut? How can a gas pedal be that narrow? Has the pedal in fact been replaced by a pencil? Or do you just have comically large feet?

It's a combination of the fact that it's unusually narrow (a little over an inch across) and that I have large feet (size 13 American).

Phhht. My new power supply was supposed to be delivered today, but I wasn't home, and newegg decided it needed a signature.

I tried to schedule to pick it up today, but I get off work at 3pm due to the holiday, and it won't be there till 6-ish, so I'm not sure if I want to wait around before heading home for Thanksgiving...

I mean, it's not like I need it, but it's fully modular! And has better efficiency! Want....

There's just one type of citrus fruit. What we recognize as different fruits is just the same type of fruit at different distances and in different colored light,

Grapefruit: At dawn, very close.
Orange: At dawn, at mid-range.
Lemon: At mid-day, at mid-range.
Lime: Inside a borg cube, at mid-range.
Mandarin orange: At dawn, far away.

And things get sourer as they get nearer. I now picture myself at the center of a bullseye of sourness in universal indicator colours, and myself painted red and peering at fruit.

I had heard about the fast inverse square root function in the past, someone then mentioned on these forums recently. I have always thought "Isn't inverse square root, just the square function? How can you get faster than "return x*x"

I have just now decided to actually read about it. I see now they mean reciprocal of the square root. This makes more sense to me.

As you ride home from Gamestop, you note clouds rolling in. The game in the bag hanging from your handlebars- the game that's been on your mind since you moved into your one bedroom studio apartment- makes you excited. Excited to finally try the next TV you bought, and happy to know that you'll be holding a controller again soon. As you walk through the door and begin to make a light dinner, night falls. You decide that it's time to unwrap the game.

As you slide the disc into the CD tray, a chill comes over you. You think about last time; you're determined not to let that happen again.
It happens 1/2 an hour of gameplay later. You wake up, your room dark, and fumble for your flashlight. That's when you realize, with a touch of horror, you didn't turn off your TV. The room is dark...You dash for the light switch.

Your TV...is gone.

Welcome to the world of Silent Hill

My brother sent me a link to a flash game once. It was one of the best games I have ever played. And now I can't find the link for it. This makes me sad.

Spoiler:
It was a finalist for some kind of award for amateur/student game designers or something. You start out in blackness, as a vertical line that represents a person, with a circle of light around you revealing your immediate surroundings. As you move and reveal more of the cave system you are in, the view pulls back to fit everything you have explored into it. You must find your way to a certain point denoted by a brightly coloured dot, whereupon you are taken to the next cave system. The game is simple, but the music/sounds are incredible, and the whole experience is inexplicably fulfilling. And now it is gone. :(
