So... much... awesome! <3

If someone made a webcomic purely about stuff like that, I would totally read it.

A large, extremely detailed strip, chock full of jokes, on xkcd, that is NOT A POSTER BAIT? Now there's something unexpected. This was an excellent strip.

"Alcohol is poison, I drink to save you from it." is something I'm going to find myself saying quite a bit from now on. Or should it be a T-shirt?

The first thing this comic made me think of was the Look Around You show and how scarring it would be to actually show such a thing to a classroom of young children.

This comic was great--the expansive scope, the terrible great puns, were just as groan-inducing great as an SMBC-xkcd crossover should be.

I think the funniest is the "Star Wars is a documentry. No, seriously."

The whole thing is a very clever combination of two of my favourite webcomics.

Did anyone else from Quebec get confused about the KFP one? It took me a couple of reads before I noticed it wasn't PFK. Poulet Frit Kentucky, is what the frenchies call it round here.

I've been waiting for this since I first saw that they were doing guest comics but I'm sure Zach is way more excited about this than any of us are.

I...I...well...this is the only accurate way I know to sum up how I feel about this comic:

http://myfacewhen.com/92/

Oh, and it looks like Black Hat Guy is just above/outside the Conservatory of Poorly Remembered History (though his hat doesn't seem to be colored in). And the guy with the Beret is inside the History place.

Wait, that’s a librarian with a bun and glasses? I thought it was a guy in a mask.

Also black hat guy with two hats by the restroom appears to have no legs. Also also, poor guy sitting outside look all alone!

About ten years ago my son self-trolled the alien thing. I'd bought an alien detector at a garage sale (related to MiB I think) with a little thermal thing that turned colors when you put your thumb on it (green if you're not an alien - which it will turn on humans). Kind of a random 10c buy and I threw it on my key chain. I showed it to my wife who sighed slightly understanding it but not thinking it was especially amusing. The next day he came into the room (at 3-4 years old) looking super shocked. We asked what the problem was, slightly worried. He said "D..dad? I know.. I'm not supposed to be messing with your stuff but.. I THINK I'M AN ALIEN". Apparently his curiosity got to him and his thumb was kind of cold..

OK, I see:

Cory Doctorow (with cape) in north corridor.
Megan in East corridor.
White hat guy in west corridor.
Blonde girl looking at the dinosaur.
Librarian lady near the exit.
Two black hat guy near the restrooms.
Beret guy in the Conservatory of Poorly Remembered History.
Black hat guy in the Rotunda of Uncomfortable Topics.
Flying ferret in the Hall of Misunderstood Science.

And, Mr. Molly, are you seriously saying you did spot Waldo yet? ;-P

Now, how many other people spent a while looking at the magic eye picture that doesn't actually work, just in case....?

11rcombs wrote:(sending from my iPhone, please excuse typos)
The image has an image map "linked" to it. This means that different areas of the base image function like normal hyperlinks. However, in this case, these hyperlinks (which act much like HTML anchor tags) have their "mousedown" event handlers bound to a function which throws the requested sub-comic onscreen in a div tag aligned with the mouse pointer.

Regarding the implementation of this in bbcode:
In order to pull off anything even vaguely close to this functionality, you'd need either image map support, JS support, or both. Seeing as BBCode has neither, this is a good time to say, "no soup for you"!

Actually, there IS a way, but it requires a LOT of work and unfortunately wouldn't work on these forums. The forum would need a [collapse=image]image[/collapse] function, which this one does not have. This tag functions like a [spoiler] except that you can change both the default and the revealed state, instead of always saying "spoiler" when hidden.

What you would do is cut the main image into a grid in an art program. You then lay out the grid of images as the default view of the collapse tags. Ideally, each square corresponds to at most exhibit in the main comic, that way, when you expand each collapsed square, you see the corresponding exhibit (the hidden view of the collapse tag).

There are several limitations on doing this, most of which would depend upon the specific implementation of the collapse feature. If the default view had any preset spacing, each square would be spaced and the full comic would appear broken up. Beyond that, each square would most likely need to be a uniform size, making it very difficult to meet the requirement of having at most one exhibit per square. Also, your whole mock-imagemap would be a grid, so that means that if someone clicked on the hall next to an exhibit, it would reveal the exhibit. I also only know of one forum with the appropriate {collapse] tags (which I cannot specifically reference here) so it is possible that code is unique to their boards.
