My Ipad wouldn't show the comic, just the title and the arrow icons. It didn't show the comic on this discussion thread either.

Quicksilver posted a link to an Enya video, but on my Ipad I'm informed the owner hasn't enabled its viewing on an Ipad.

DSDM spelled knoll as gnoll, which is a cross between a gnome and a troll. I think he meant a knoll. :)

I figured that since they appear to be by water (flat bit on the right) it's a play on "time and tide wait for no man".

Ah, I have it!

Nothing's going to happen until he leaves, with "Megan" left behind. Once he's left it'll get dark and the water will rise.

I'm getting a strange glitch where the picture for less than a second is the two of them sitting, and then changes to the sandy hair one.

Sweet! how often do the images update?

Right now it's trying to update every 5 minutes. But I still don't have it perfect, it didn't fire properly this last image and had to be poked.

Yes, you did.

You know, this kind of reminds me of the paintings in Harry Potter. It's like we're just watching these people mill about of their on accord on a hillside by a lake.

Unfortunately, I think you are on to something. In the frame where she is "messing up her hair" I think it is actually falling out.

Don't like where this is going.

Is the picture taking a really long time to load for anyone else? It almost seems like the image is on a delay.

I just want to say I don't think it's morbid. I don't think Randall is making us wait and refresh and refresh and script and hack just to say at the end 'HA! Something terrible happened! :P :| to me or my wife!' Sure, if enough time passes, people/universes will disappear, and maybe that will happen here, but time will pass first and it will be lovely, poignant, funny, surprising, tedious etc. rather than morbid. Time!

I literally called in a sick day just now.

I would love for it to have a happy end, I wouldn't even mind getting trolled a little early for april fools.

Maybe even a last image just saying "legendary" cue HIMYM/Barney reference.

Just can't shake this gloomy feeling. Really hoping for a happy end.

As has been said before, she's clearly sunbathing, drying/shaking her wet hair in one panel. He gets up and dips a toe into the water. I wonder where he'll float next?

I get that feeling, and I had it after #1110, but I think it's just Randall being awesome.
Apparently, 1 in 5 people in the world are Chinese. And there are 5 people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my dad. Or my older brother Colin. Or my younger brother Ho-Chan-Chu. But I think it's Colin -- Tim Vine

Ya i remember having had the same fear during 1110 but some things about this one is giving me goosebumps. Maybe because the water body in the far right reminds me of the first xkcd comic "barrel" about floating next to an unknown destination.
It's kind of like Randall to loop the whole story around and that scares me. Wishing real hard that I am badly mistaken. One of those occasions when being wrong is better than being right.

It is a loop. The frame for 11:30 ET is the same as for 0:30.

The right-most panel in 1110 literally mentions the balloon floating guy saying "I wonder where I'll float to next"

Yea, I am not entirely sure why there is such a dark minded subset of the population on this forum but it clearly colors the interpretation of every high minded comic Randall puts out. I am sure one day a whole bunch of people will be able to go "I WAS RIGHT I PREDICTED HE WAS ENDING THE COMIC/SOMEONE DIED/CANCER" and act like they didn't have 50 bad predictions before that. Maybe that is today? I doubt it.

On note of hair falling out? Really? If this a beach, she just laid on it. When I lay on beaches I get sand in my hair. Which comes out when I shake my hair. Maybe they aren't on a lake/ocean beach? Maybe it is all a metaphor for the river Styx? Oh me yarm RANDALL IS DEAD! THIS IS A COMIC THAT GETS RELEASE ON A DEAD MAN'S SWITCH! *sigh*

Wait for it...

...This is the first John Cage reference I've ever seen in a comment on the internet that actually shows an understanding of 4'33" past "lol he's sitting there not playing the piano and somebody thinks it's art."

I made an account to say this.

I'm going to like it here.

Just to broaden the discussion here, I wonder if Julian Barbour would enjoy this comic. He's a British Physicist who holds the theory that time is an illusion and is not necessary to a theory of the universe...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Barbour

What is it with folks who read so much into each comic and assume that every tilt of a stick figure's head means Randall is dying or the world is about to be destroyed by a rogue planet passing through our solar system. I swear this is at least the fifth time that the XKCD series is coming to an end.

Sometimes a drawing is just a drawing.

Yep. #1110 has the aura of a magnum opus, and that's the reason everyone felt that it might be the last xkcd comic, thankfully it wasn't the end. The best part was manually exploring the world and not using scripts to see it all in one glimpse. but honestly without them i would have missed many parts of the world.
This time around I am getting mixed feelings about it perhaps being a reference to something sad.

This time the best part is the inability to cheat and jump, we are constrained by time to see how things unfold. Randall has managed to make this one spoilerfree/geekproof.

Two interesting points: First, it changed exactly at noon, about a frame's worth. Second, it would appear that Randall hashed the filenames of the images so we can't learn more from inspecting the html. Clearly, he knows us too well.
