Can I also just use this post to apologise for starting this whole gender-gate thing? It was entirely unintentional and and and I didn't mean it. I just maybe got gender wrong and was worried about it and now it's this whole *THING* where I am scared to even call Megan 'Megan' anymore!! AHHHH

We need more people on pixel analysis. I am on my boyfriend's work laptop in incognito mode so my analysis abilities are limited. As long as the pixels *are* changing, I am happy. I just don't want us to be deluding ourselves in a "THE PICTURES ARE STILL CHANGING, THEY ARE" kind of way if it genuinely is over.

I personally don't think it's over, and I love the slow erosion until April Fools when BHG jumps out as if from a birthday cake idea (whoever said that a few pages back?) - or anything even remotely along those lines. For April Fools or not!! But who knows?

If the pixels completely stop changing, I think that is the point I stop watching. I will, however, never stop watching this thread!! (of course) - we have been through too much together!!

No, I think the opportunity to drag out sloooooow changes over a loooong time is just too tempting. It's got to keep changing for a while. For one thing - it's too easy to make new frames for that, so Randall could have hundreds of them prepared.

But .... I'm with the "panning to the left" school - the whole scene shifted to the right a half-hour ago, so if that's happening again right now .... then I think we're in for a new scene. Eventually.

Wait for it.

YES. YES. OK. I saw the actual shift this time. That has satisfied me. I will keep watching. Just not as religiously. That means I may actually get some food this evening and sleep tonight. Maybe I should wake the boyfriend up now and tell him it's time to eat... (he fell asleep as I was reading this thread  )

I have been lurking since Monday (not long at all, I know). Been having tons of fun reading through the forum.

I have images showing the result of subtracting consecutive images for each image starting with #125, but can't post them due to not having 5 posts. Anyone more experienced out there want to post them for me if I PM you a link?

1) Changing pixels at a time is something that can be automated. :( Randall doesn't need to do anything to keep this running.
2) Any checksum algo won't work to see if something changes, because 'something' will change every half hour.

I think Randall's done this so the punch line he has in mind keeps us at the edge of our seats for a much longer time.

The pixels in the middle are not shifting as far as the pixels on the left and I see no shift in the pixels in the water.

The water level is a higher pixel levels than the first frame, but that happened early on, people have mentioned it many times and it never exceeded this level.

Are we zooming out, maybe? Left camera rotate? I had assumed for a moment it was merely changing from manually created to an automated production.

I am off, and will be back in about 3-4 newpix, though it could be longer than that. But I will be back before I can sleep, no doubt about that one!! And it's 8pm here...

Also that whole newpix thing had me ON THE FLOOR laughing. Bloody hilarious. Honestly. Give that man (or lady, don't wanna start another war ;) ) a medal!!

To me, the camera is definitely pulling back, including more of the beach on the left side (with the right side of the frame remaining fixed).

I've got one too of all the differences as a gif, but I don't think I can post it yet, either. If anyone wants mine, just message me.

I'm with the crowd that thinks the castle's eroding. I'm pretty sure it's not panning because only the castle's moving; the sand is staying still.

Also, y'all have kept me very entertained :P I started watching the thread a little late (last night around midnight) but it's been fun.

Really? No one knows how to use gimp, layers and difference mode?

I'd put up a pic of it, but I don't have the bandwidth for that. It is easy to see the picture is still changing ever so slightly.

Yep - that's what I thought - zooming out, possibly in addition to panning left.

I rapidly scanned through the images using http://xkcd.aubronwood.com/ and I think it looks like the start of a pan up/left and zoom out revealing more of the beach.

If the scene is panning, then that opens up limitless possibilities; the two characters could be just out of view, maybe building a much cooler castle, or there could be a city of raptors, or an invasion of red spiders, or black hat guy terrorizing children, or... (fill in theory of your choice here.)
However, is the castle is just sliding, then there could be something behind it. The possibilities are limited to things small enough to fit behind the castle, but there are still endless possibilities of what might be there. I guess we just have to...
Wait for it.

010 - 023 : the dark period: the darkness in the posts of the thread reached heights during these frames
024 - 044 : the sandcastle period: as the sandcastle started to appear, most of the darkness made disappeared.
045 - 074 : the period (second dark period): Initially, this was the 'female period' but I soon realised that would be a pleonasm. Also it was a pretty dark time on the thread.

088 - 105 : the male period: with a climax at frame 103: "the fall of man" frame
105 - 124 : the rebuild period (second sandcastle period).
125 - NOW: the deserted period (?) Still in progress! How exciting!
