2x4s, rope, a weight.

I'm thinking trebuchet. :)

On another note, all this BTTF talk gave me the sad realization that we are now almost as far away from 1985 as 1985 was from 1955. WHERE DID THE TIME GO!?

The back to the future II script was a short timeline rewrite, originally going to be disco era but Crispin Glover wanted too much to be George, so they had to write him out.

Haha! Awesome.

I kid you not, I started reading the thread at about the time you posted, and NOW, 9 days laters I've caught up to your post. So, yeah, it looks like I'll be never catching up.

I think it's the first time in my life that I have the feeling something is going to happen as I die of old age.
Go! Go! You can do it username5243!

Crazy, right? And despite some cooler gadgets and the internet, the cultural differences between now and 1985 is only a sliver when compared to the Grand Canyon-like gap of the 30 years between 1985 and 1955.

Our culture has plateaued. Or stagnated. Or hit bottom. And still no hoverboards or flying cars.

Regarding "the river" and where it is now: comic #4, titled "Landscape (sketch)" has the alt-text: "There's a river flowing through the ocean".

Speaking of, since we have a detailed image of the trebuchet, it seems like she gathered all the parts for a big version. I assume she's pulling in the base.

You said it, brother. (Though Preview tells me your "hipnotizado" gif won't show up in my quote).

Far out. Who needs the low-rent psychedelia of that Chambers Bros. video? Apart from the fractal paisley, maybe.

I hope and assume someone will put this on the wiki?

Aside: Simplest way, if you ever really want the attached image to show up, right-click on it in the original and "copy image location" (if it's available; I forget whether that's standard or an extension), then go to the quoting, and replace the attachment tag section with img tag with that URL in it. As I've done above. Usually I don't bother, since the devout will of course have read all the posts up to this point anyway.

Oh! I've totally neglected to mention that, when I was young, I had a tiny trebuchet myself, just about the same size as Megan's tiny #403 one, probably something like 8" tall to the crossbeam. Made out of cardstock, with a counterweight full of pennies. It was a pattern from some magazine I got back then. And it did actually work for launching small objects. Too bad I didn't have any pebble nukes yet back then.

I have coma'ed twice since I last traveled the thread of Time, and the lack of chaos in my brain concerns me. Clearly I have been absent too long. Luckily my path now winds through posts affected by the Madness, as the Sandcastle is bombarded by the First Trebuchet. I suddenly desire to Capitalize as many Mundane Words as is Humanly Possible. It shall be All Too Easy to slip back into the Semen/Coffee River/Sea that is This Thread.

I'm almost positive this comic is Randalls commentary on global warming. The "I don't understand what the ocean is doing" is what really hit it home for me.

Pay attention. It's called Time, not Temperature.
