I... I feel ashamed. My first moments of Knighthood have created problems with the One True Comic!

EDIT: Nevermind, it's fixed. Phew. I was worried my Knighthood had brought destruction upon us all.

So the river hasn't reached the sea yet, monsoon season? Might it be raining but we just can't see it? Would explain the whole 'water needed to build' conundrum.

I'll agree that the River and Sea references are increasingly likely to be metaphors, but I'm not sure this is the correct interpretation. :)

I am wondering what the river is. It hasn't "Reached the sea", so it is a new river that is probably man made. It retreated a little this week, which is a bit odd for a new river. WHAT IS THIS RIVER? And how would Cueball think a river would affect the level of the Sea? Are both Sea and River just artificial constructs in a massive model of something?

A search of this topic shows that nobody has made the following assumption yet:

Time details the period of time that shall be known as Pre-Waterworld. The sea is rising oddly quickly, and what I am getting from the statements about the river is that there is a river that is overflowing due to some sort of blockage (perhaps wreckage that has ended up in the river by floating on the rising waters of the sea it empties into), and the water is slowly expanding outward.

Cueball has expressed his disbelief at the exponentially increasing height of the sea, stating that the river hasn't even begun to overflow into the sea. Megan replies that it doesn't even matter whether the river reaches the sea or not. "The river is small. The sea is big."

This is not supposed to be comedic. This comic is a showcase of two people spending their time together before immense global flooding. That is also why when Cueball said "Later" but returned fairly quickly (relative to the amount of work Megan had completed by that point), Megan didn't seem to question it. He came back so soon because "Later" has a different meaning to them. If they don't know how much time they have left, "Later" just means "I am going somewhere else right now, but I promise to come back as soon as I can".

I assume the river is at the left. And we've seen the sea rise at the right.
I don't know how or why the river should reach the sea.

Megan is giving an explanation for why the river is not here yet, by stating that the river is small. So some effect is not happening for the river because of size. The sea is big, so it does not have the same problem. Normally with a lot of rain, you would see a river rising a lot, and the sea not, because of the size. The only explanation is that this is anti-water. That is the reason it tastes bad.

Is anyone else singing now? From the best Christmas album of all time:

When the mountain touches the valley
All the clouds are taught to fly
As our souls will leave this land most peacefully
Though our minds be filled with questions
In our hearts we'll understand
When the river meets the sea

Muppets and John Denver, anyone? (Also Emmet Otter.) I don't think the song has got much to do with the comic, taking as it does a decidedly pro-soul and -afterlife stance, but thanks anyway Randall for reminding me of it! (I may not agree with the song but it is darn beautiful anyway.)

But this life will find a purpose
And in time we'll understand
When the river meets the sea
When the river meets the almighty sea.

From 5 NewPages in the past, I bring to you this request. Megan had just moved from the bottom to where it appeared like she was suddenly hanging from the platform. I was on the edge of my seat, trying to read up to the next NewPix to see if she was ok, when I read this:

Indeed. And just after I read that, a song called 'No Rest for the Weary' came up on my iPod which started by mentioning lines in the sand, and went on to mention hourglasses, time drifting past, and greyness and dark. Another one for the hymn book.

It seems like the wiki should have such a "hymn book", i.e. a list of all the songs cited on the One True Thread, but I can't see it. But would this belong in with one of the religions? Or do they share the same hymn book?

For that matter, are there secular followers of the OTC? Kind of like humanists? Would they be stickmanists?
