This was me... two or three posts elsewhere, then everything else in this thread. It's the first thing I do as I de-coma, catch up on here over a baby-free coffee. When Time ends, it might as well be the end of everything...

And what does it say about me that I got all giddy as I hit the bottom of the page and saw BlitzGirl was online ?

:D

For instance in Figure 1 you can't even tell if there's any datapoints at velociraptor = 1 and velociraptor = 3 because the plotting style actually obscures perfectly good results.

*just please don't try and use Excel for actual curve fitting or statistical analysis.

I dispute the fact that these graphs should be represented by points rather than a line:

1) It's a cumulative frequency graph, with time on the X axis. Generally you'd plot this with a line connecting the points, though maybe you would choose to show the points as well, however;
2) Each TimeFrame is a new point. If the aim is clarity, adding 720 points to the line will only obscure the actual values - in the velociraptor case it makes a positive difference, in this case it gets in the way;
3) Whilst the data TECHNICALLY isn't continuous, in practice, it's showing a variation over time. As the number of points increases, the discreteness of the data becomes more and more irrelevant.

Also - horizontal lines/vertical lines in graphs are entirely a matter of personal preference. I think it assists in the reading of the figures quickly. I considered quite a few variations when I was building graphs, and a plain line with no points and horizontal divisions makes for the easiest reading, in my opinion.

I should introduce my brother to BlitzGirl, the Reader... He seems to think that the entire existence of the One True Comic is "Time: Weird picture of castles and a guy with a rope or something." To quote him when I sent him the link to the Book of Aubron and told him to read the thread so it makes a little more sense: "Taking forever to load, and the forum thread just sounds like speculation and paranoia. I think you're high." He obviously missed the title text... Wait for it!

"I waited. This is dumb."

Damn Outsiders.

On a side note, throughout my lurking here I have been cheering on BlitzGirl and Waiting for her to reach the present Time - In fact, (if I can yet, I don't have 5 posts) I'll even throw in some sig-couragement!

Wow I've found something else fascinating. above is a quote from near the beginning of the thread. The Time comic images have been changing AFTER they were released. When the original people checked the time stamps of the PNG files the Create Date stamp was 25th of march but now the create timestamp if you download the same [hash].png file is the 27th. This suggests to me that some process has been done that changed them on the 27th. My guess is that no image changes were done as the modified times have not changed. It is possible that these dates we can see in clear text in the files after the png image data is being generated by the web server and not the image processing software but I'm not sure really. There is also frame 20 that has its modified time as 15 hours AFTER it was released which means there could be two versions of the actual image out there. Don't know how we would get the original image from someone with a copy from before the 27th.

But what this does mean is that their is two versions of most of the images released before the 27th that probably only differ by their timestamps at the bottom of the files. I wonder if anyone uploaded as attachments to the forum any of the images in the first 100 frames so we can compare them.

I made my collection of frames, downloaded as they appear, temporarily available here. Feel free to use those for (further) comparison.
(No, I don't have the original first frame either, I downloaded that one from some source that has the presumed copy, probably aubronwood.)

Edited to prevent double post

Indeed, doesn't look like it. Looks like hair, plus some kind of head dress, which may or may not have been designed by Buffygirl. But you never know, she makes some wacky hats, it could be one with hair included...

At least we can look forward to the next newpix again. It's been a while that something interesting happened.

Well, you guys have been busy bees indeed! Even though there is talk of the thread slowing down, it took me quite a few newwpix to catch up after a day of Outsidery93.

First and foremostly I need to thank two people!
mojacardave - Many thanks for my graph! I do not have Excel and would not know how to use it if I did.
buffygirl - Madam, my hat surpasses anything I dreamed of! I will tip it to you! Thank you very much!
I noticed I was kind of forward, when I requested both and forgot to say please or thank you :s My apolgies for this! I have EDITed the post to add some much needed courtesy towards you! :)

During my BlitzGirling I noticed many posts to which I'd like to reply! I'll spoiler them to avoid a LongPost.

Spoiler:
A lot of people wrote:Discussions about the auto-newpix-bot by mscha.

I would like to thank mscha for the creation and re-configuration of the bot! It's good to know that the forum will always be up to date with the latest newpix, even if we forget it.
It's also good to know that someone is keeping track of Time more thoroughly then the bots of Aubronwood and Geekwagon!
My hat of to you, sir! Thanks again buffygirl!

I'm sorry to hear that man. A pet is a full family member imo, so it's never easy if they are gone :(

Wow, still no flame war; I was sure that the bot was going to be a bone of contention, but a sensible response from everyone. I love you guys!

You know, when I first heard about the pressure cooker bombs in Boston, I, like many others, thought of that recent What-if. I started reading the xkcd thread about the bombing. People were talking about destructive capacities of various bombs, racism, etc. Posts were becoming unpleasant, tempers were flaring, it was not fun. I ran with all haste back to this thread, where one of us makes hats for fellow posters on request, other folks are crunching numbers for everyone, and we're all cheering on someone we've never met. Remember way back when there was a post from someone (don't remember who it was) who asked if we could please just discuss the comic. He kind of called us posers. But no one got offended or upset. People just thought it was cool he used the word "granfoolery." And now this lovely resolution with the bot. You people are nice, and funny, and fun, and clever and talented. It's is so cool to hang out with you this way.

So, what I want to know is, when is TimeCon: The One True Convention?

I know, I know. Wait for it.

What nice words! I agree with all of them! This thread is indeed a rare pearl, and all of us are the oyster that is creating it! :o never thought I would call anyone, let alone a whole bunch of people, an oyster! In a good sense, even!
It reminded me a little of my first post in this thread. I still find the OTC and the Thread a precious piece d'art.

I support the idea of a TimeCon somewhere on a beach and also I join in on buffygirl's beautiful hug!

Dear BlitzGirl,

Sorry for this LongPost. I know you read it ALL and this post will have cost you some Time. My sincerest apologies! I will make sure the Croissants are not stale when you arrive to the present(s)!
(and also my apologies for the whole 'let's spur BlitzGirl on by deleting the Thread behind her' post! I do not think you are too slow, I was merely extracting some comedy out of the situation! hope you liked it!)

My most sincerest regards!

PS: this post actually goes on for a little bit longer :s SORRY!

93 It was a nice day with strawberries, some champagne and even gained bread55!
55 Here in Belgium, there is an eon-long discussion whether it's gewonnen brood/gained bread or verloren brood/lost bread. Is bread that you normally wouldn't eat because it's too old already lost or still gained if you bake them in eggs and milk? We Belgians can't figure it out. This is probably why we have a third name for it: wentelteefjes/rotatingbitches? a joke for our Dutch-speakers! Holla at ya!. Anyhoo, you guys probably know this treat as French Toast.

I'd almost think it's white beret guy, but he's usually depicted without hair. So, let the wild speculation continue! (while I catch up yet again)
P.S. I am Randall, but not that Randall.
We can rebuild it. We have the technology. We can make it better than it was. Better … stronger … well, maybe not faster.
Well, BlitzGirl is experiencing a bit of a title wave.

Doesn't look like it. Looks like hair, plus some kind of head dress, which may or may not have been designed by Buffygirl. But you never know, she makes some wacky hats, it could be one with hair included...

At least we can look forward to the next newpix again. It's been a while that something interesting happened.

Looks a bit like a sailor's hat! Could it be a seaman?
Or maybe it is indeed our most admired Time-reader, BlitzGirl!

Indeed something to look forward to!

A theory (That makes some sense): Randall doesn't do his work in png file format. So, ahead of the reveal, he converts a group of files to png, and shifts them to the server. He might be slightly ahead. He might have finished all of Time. Sometimes he finds something to change, and a few files are moved over again with new dates. Addendum: The hash is the hash of the image.

The other theory (That I like better): This is all planned out to make us wonder. The hash is solvable, and the prize is All of Time!!! Added: And that it is connected with Externalities, and we will all facepalm when the answer is revealed. (The answer should be OBVIOUS once you know the answer.)

My previous text was hard to understand so i've done a cool graph that shows his modifications compared to when they were released.

You will notice all the times he has changed things just before they get released!. There is even one frame where it seems he modified it AFTER it was released. So there is possible now two versions of this frame out there....

You can also see the steping line where he does more batches.

And also because of these last minute edits it suggests that it is in fact dynamic and he is changing and adding to it before it comes out. That would suggest that even if we knew the hash we would only get a little way ahead until we reach the point of Time that has not been written yet. So this means the future is not fixed and Megan/Cueball have free will etc. Someone could look at all the last minute changed Frames and see if their is anything important that he might have changed. Some of them are text frames and he may have just changed the dialog last minute.

Note that the most recent 5 frames (starting at 6:00 UTC, 2 am EDT), have a "datecreate" and "datemodify" of ... today, 1:27 am EDT! So, looks like Randall recently either created those, twerked something, or is just messing with our heads.
The first one of these is the 4th ‘sleep’ frame, so not an obvious immediate change.

EDIT: added third possibility.
