How do you pronounce 'Aphex', anyway?

BlitzGirl's in Tacoma?? That's practically a few minutes away! Well, if you own a private jet, anyway. Which I don't. Still, it's quite cheering to know I live in the same state as such a relentless follower of Time :D

Yes, though I hope to be moving closer to Seattle in a month or two :P

Doesn't the OTT kind of fulfill the function of a group blog? Though it is a fun idea, Opiboble!

I had similarly thought that we could add a forum to the wiki ... the recursive possibilities are endless!

Now his water vessel is getting washed away, so they'll have to share one. Hopefully the rivers are bigger than they anticipated so they can refill their water supplies twice as fast on their journey.

Welcome to Time.

xspeedballx wrote:This may be heresy. But hear me out. Why are we doing what we are told? Why are we waiting for it? Whether it is something unknown or time itself. Should we not fill our days with bigger things and let it come to us with hat in hand? Let it explain itself?

That is not how it works, young Padawan. Time is the master. We must go to It.

xspeedballx wrote:We are slowly watching a journey of two travelers unravel. Two travelers who at first spent time waiting, and then time creating, and now time exploring. Ultimately in one way or another Time is not moving forward for us. We are all still stuck 30+ days ago. Watching the same moment in time. New comics have appeared, real time has marched on, but we keep waiting for this one spot of time to be relevant. At the expense of what?

There is no expense. For as much Time as we have spent, we have grown in proportion. All in balance.

xspeedballx wrote:When Time ends.. we will find Time is marching on. We put ourselves in stasis waiting for the End of Time, or It. I say no more! These Lovecraftian devices of time of within a span of a moment must be broken away from before our sanity is ground away. I fear for our vision of the real world once our vision of Time has ended.

What is this sanity you speak of? Relax. Watch Time unfold. Be content.

StratPlayer wrote:Ok, this is really simple to understand:

It's the same, but different, meaning that it has looped, even though it hasn't, and that Time will continue, or it won't, in exactly the same way as it had before, except that it will now be different, but in a different manner than if it had looped and ended up exactly the same, which it isn't, so it's going to stay the same as it was, but in a different way.

See?

Yep, it's perfectly clear to me. (Forsrs.) It's a near-loop - close enough that it almost continues the same way it did before, but slightly different. Just different enough to be... well, different.

I think the OTC just jumped the shark. There is no way Cueball would do something this stupid. There is no way Megan would let Cueball do something this stupid. My suspension of disbelief has been shattered.

Pffft, this comic has jumped the shark, stifled the spark, mutated the quark, de-feathered the lark, paved over the park, silenced the snark, and ignored the hark, and it's done that since Newframe #1...

And yet we STILL Wait For It...

Where's the REAL joke in this comic ? ? ? :D

The real joke is in the time and attention being devoted to analyzing and speculating on it.

Almost too much, for me; the Outside is making demands that I'm going to have to attend to, and I'll slip behind again.

A "man-year" is 2000 hours, so maybe a man-century or man-millennium. Probably not as much as Microsoft Bob/Agent/Clippy did, because of the much smaller, self-selecting audience.

But see, here in the OTT, we are the subject of the joke, the source of the joke, the co-creators of the joke, the audience for the joke, and are responsible for the delivery of the joke.

We're about it, in it, and in on it, so it's all good.

OK new forum data is up. The recent surge due to the final arrival of BlitzGirl and the drama of the Fading is clearly apparent and seems to have peaked.
That's about all I can do for now. Have some cool ideas about what to do next, but looks like I won't be free to do them for around 80 newpix :-(

Keep waiting, fellow time watchers.

473/494. A few more bag jokes here, together with much discussion about how M&C could have walked left from the castles Kingdoi but be seen going right here. No real consensus yet but some very good ideas.

Yeah, another mini-novel:

Well, the next obvious step would be to have them start talking about the bags. A lot.

Although, I wonder...
Has Randall read it all?

Given that he's continued to produce comics every M/W/F, and that he's apparently been changing images up to a few m before their release, I will say he has not.

This was awesome enough to finally make me unlurk and register to this forum. Having followed this thread almost from the beginning (rather spotty and skimmish-ly at first but in read-all-mode for the last couple of hundred pages) every frame made me smile. I have been on the brink of registering a couple of times now, specially when the big whiteout was under way, but most times I was a couple of... uh, pages... behind in my reading so it felt out of place. Now, however, it's time.

So, hi. There's really nothing I can say that hasn't been said by other recent unlurkers, but I really feel that I know you guys after having been riding along, invisibly, in your back seat for so long now. Also, the friendliness and lack of drama and animosity here is refreshing. Not that I'm active on any other forum on the net - I'm really a quiet kind of guy - but my girlfriend often tells about the insane dramas of her various foras and I never could stand it. So it's nice.

Another reason for my hesitation about joining is a general feeling of unworthyness. Whenever I visit the forum to read the comments on the latest comics I'm awed and slightly intimidated by the wit and linguistic elegance of the posters, and I feel that I'll never bee able to match that - since English is not my first language (other than purely alphabetically, before Swedish). But I'm ready to give it a try.

Okay, that got long winded. Time to wind down and await moderator approval on this my first breath of registered forum air.

*tosses firstpost forward* Welcome. :D Don't mind the longwindedness... I'm much, much worse. *glances back with slight dismay at the 5th? 6th? 7th? mini-novel I've written on this journey*

edfel wrote:After a thousand newpix of lurking I finally get out of bagginghiding to participate in this quest of understanding what's going on on this beach, or at least of sharing the non-understanding of what's going on...
M&C are off to see the world1, and I'm pretty sure they won't feel their quest is complete before seeing at least one mountain and one tree (what better approach, to find a mountain, than to follow the shore until one finds a river, then to follow the river upstream, making sandcastles along the way?).

My prediction (just to have an epsilon% chance of saying "I told ya!") is that they'll keep on traveling for the next 5700 or so newpix, crossing various landscape and meeting lots of people, until they settle in a snowcastle, dinning with Santa Claus2,3,4.

1 which is presumably as bagbig as the sea2
2 which is big
3 but not as much as the sea2
4 which, also, brings me to the present for Blitzgirl: a santa hat, of course!

*tosses another firstpost forward* You know, none of you first-posters sound like it. You're just as wonderfully insane (and well-versed in the background of the OTT) as the rest of us. Y u no stay then?? D:

I conjecture that a steam bottle is a bottle for making...wait for it...steam. The ways of the Creator of Time are mysterious, indeed.

Not exactly steam related but they do have the materials on hand for this:

Or at least they did until Cueball lost his bottle.

Maybe! If they are dogs and send messages with pee!

Also, my prediction is that they will contemplate the river for a moment and discuss what they can do about it. They may then go upstream and find some kind of damn that they then will explode diverting the river in a new direction and saving their sandcastle. At the expense of a small village, but totally worth it.

^^That's supposed to be the wide-eyed smile-face. What did I did WRONG???^^

You wouldn't happen to have Javascript disabled, would you? When you click the smiley image, it summons a Javascript ninja to put the smiley code in for you. If JS is disabled the ninja cannot be summoned, so all your browser can do is put in the link to the smiley-maker.

Let me guess: you're using Firefox with NoScript. So familiar <3 I still hand-type most tags because I'm used to them not working. If you're up for doing that too, the smiley in question is : shock : with no spacing between the :'s and the "shock".

Thanks for the advice {looking around "JavaScript, JavaScript, if I were a JavaScript button which one would I be?"} (plus looking at your post I'm seeing how some of the other thingies are done. I've said this before I'm REALLY new with posting in a thread, with this being the FIRST one I've done this in more than once. {The other two(?) I posted a question and that was that.} I so I think I'm getting some of the simple stitches down and maybe I get to do some embroidery soon.)

{picking up odd bits and pieces and trying to fit them together}

A while back htom mentioned googling a quote jjjdavidson had tossed out (that *cough cough* I had indicated I knew) and he mentioned this thread was the third link.
And over at the 1206: Einstein thread there's a mention that 95% of the google hits for the patent in the alt-text are xkcd related.
And, meanwhile, back at the ranch, the google search for boomerangdildoguns all lead here.

>and the choir says sooo?<

To make a point out of this long ramble:
Can you imagine some poor soul, who knows NOTHING of xkcd (let alone the OTC, OTT, etc.), on an innocent Google search, ending up on any random page of this thread?
And starts reading above and below where ever they were sent????
