Before the dunes were revealed and they were travelling uphill (well, courtesy of Copernicum's panorama, it looks as though they're still generally heading uphill), I initially thought of mountains and three songs:
a) Climb Every Mountain (Sound of Music),
b) Climbing over rocky mountain (Pirates of Penzance),
c) A certain children's song...

# Cueball went over the mountain / Megan went over the mountain.
# They both went over the mountain / To see what they could see.
# And all that they could see / And all that they could see.
# Was the other side of the mountain / The other side of the mountain.
# The other side of the mountain / Was all that they could see.

Did I ever tell you I have a very eclectic and eccentric taste in music? :)

Don't forget "She'll Be Coming 'Round The Mountain When She Comes"¹ and "On Top Of Old Smoky".

1: Get your mind out of the gutter, you!

And, for you Zepplin fans: Black Mountain Side and Misty Mountain Hop.
But, if your tastes are more toward C/W, there's Foggy Mountain Breakdown

I think the prophet was right and that this is more evidence that this thread is helping to direct the plot line.

Shall we try asking for something else that would make sense in-world whilst adding further evidence of this?

(more rimshots of the traditional kind. Thanks, folks, I'll be here all 48*7 newpix.. or something.)

Just finished reading your blog. I would vote for you for president.
On the other hand, I'm grateful that there aren't political posts here1
On the other hand, what's a cellist doing making percussion jokes?

1Please, please, please let us not get started with political posts, that way lies madness and flame wars. I had lunch yesterdip in a place where they had CNN on the TV. I was so far behind on Outside, I felt I was ketchupping, but also had no desire to, and I got really irritated at the lack of joy I've gotten used to seeing/reading/finding here.

Excellent: I'm up to two votes now (three if I can depend on the Spousal Unit).
And why not percussion jokes? At least I didn't start w/ the viola jokes  .

How do you know when a drummer is knocking at your door?
The knock always slows down.
What do you call someone who hangs out with musicians?
A drummer.
How do you make a cello sound beautiful?
Sell it and buy a violin.

And, I couldn't resist, besides it's really a soprano joke, really.

If you threw a violist and a soprano off a cliff, which one would hit the ground first? (two answers)
The violist. The soprano would have to stop halfway down to ask directions.
Who cares?

really

What did the drummer get on his IQ test?
Drool.

...and if you happen to know anyone who plays drums and is actually talented at it and reasonably smart, consider this one...

What's the difference between a percussionist and a drummer?
40 IQ points.

Oh, sure. The previous three times we also predicted that Megan or Cueball would fall. One out of four, not really evidence of our Lord Randall listening to us, I'd say. ;)

Sure, let's all ask (pray?) for the Sheeple to wake up on the next newpix. If that then happens, you've got me convinced.

River Deep, Mountain High (doubly appropriate!)
Big Rock Candy Mountain
I'm on the Top of the World
Ain't No Mountain High Enough
Reach (for the stars, climb every mountain high - S Club 7)
What Goes Up (Must Come Down) - the song devoted to gravity! (Actually the lyrics I remember are the opening ones from Blood, Sweat and Tears' "Spinning Wheel", more particularly as the opening to an old textured wallpaper ad - and if you think that's corny, try doing the Shake 'n' Vac...)

I mentioned "Climb Every Mountain" from the Sound of Music, but I just remembered the title song starts "The hills", so that's a candidate as well!

Must. Resist. Googling. "Mountain Songs".

Finally, to bad it wasn't Cueball. I think she'll make an awesome recovery or turn it into an awesome slide down the dune.

Unfortunately there is no way for me to automagically get the titles of those videos marked with "Sorry, can't view this video in my country!", and they are too many to look them up manually.

Righteo, now extracted to a Google Document (write access to anyone with the link if you want to edit some of the "Sorry can't view" titles or add any others they missed) for me to look at once I've got my YouTube playlist caught up with that shown in the Wiki. Some of those are probably already in the playlist (several links are shown in light blue text indicating I've already viewed them) but others aren't.

Wow! I'd started looking at the ones not available in Sciscitor's country (but, conveniently, are available in the UK!) and editing the links to show what video they referenced (so one day I can add them to the YouTube version of the Time Travel Mix playlist), but after a pageful got distracted. Thanks to both of you for compiling the list(s)!

Anyway, 11:20pm, time to coma then see if Megan and Cueball are still dune mountaineering in the morning...

Just noticed in the second jump, Megan didn't slide further, she only jumped further than Cueball, yet she's walking away like "Look At Me".

So, either Cueball is too stupid to notice that Megan is all covered in sand, or too polite.

Nope, it's %. Rise / run. I know "we" (I for one welcome our metric system overlords) screw up some units pretty bad, but that one's pretty hard to obfuscate.
I've heard Americans also use feet per mile4 (for railroads anyway), but I don't know if it's mile of track, or mile of horizontal distance. Feet per chain is also used... which is interesting because "chain" is itself a variable unit.

All these odd units have their place, and I found a wonderful website which explained all of this, and why certain arcane units were actually far superior (in their realm) than any others, including metric. Alas, I have lost the bookmark, and have been unable to find it since.

Jose
4... which is rise over run2, but not quite "unitless" as there is a hidden conversion factor.
2if we aren't talking about "run of track" but rather, "run of horizontal distance"

"Run" with "rise" should always be the two sides of a right triangle, the hypotenuse being called the length or distance (or sometimes and bizarrely ) the slope.

We frequently (in the USA) seem to have building codes that allow for "fast" stairs, which are dangerous. Part of this is that some codes allow for the tread that is under the tread above to be considered part of the "minimum", but that part of the step is not available to someone coming down the stair.

She had enough time to retrieve and put her backpack back on and probably dispensed with the sand (or whatever) while doing so.

But that doesn't preclude Cueball just being that unobservant.

They've been walking up and down sand dunes, so they're probably both covered in sand anyways.

Couldn't you run "this" through a proxy (tor, etc) of the country (USA?) they are allowed in?

I like this thinking, mikro2nd. I couldn't believe it was an Outside equivalent, while fantasy could be very vague. Thanks for the structured "fake" world suggestion. :)
